  1. Someone tried to mug me on Barry Road last year after I got off the 12 at about 3am. I pushed him over someone's wall, threw a loose bit of the wall at him and ran off. It's the only violent thing I can remember ever doing.
  2. If you're keeping it outside, you really should lock it up, even if it's in your back garden. Speaking as someone who used to regularly 'garden hop'.
  3. I wish I lived on Stoke Newington Church Street. I really do. Can we all pretend this is their forum?
  4. 'Village' is a word used by estate agents. Please don't move here, stay in Clapham. Stop writing like an absolute cliche.
  5. An easier calculation is to each morning stare yourself directly in the face in the mirror and ask 'where is it I live again and what sounds do I expect to hear on the gentle lolloping breeze'? If the answer is 'owls, sparrows' then move elsewhere

  7. there's a good thread on here about steps you can take to get a stolen bike back (I don't recommend all of them, own risk etc) http://www.lfgss.com/thread9791.html
  8. Speaking in the 'idiot' idiom is harder than it looks
  9. sunday is the main 'fence' day. tbh in south London a lot of bikes get shifted on the street for ?20 / down the pub. BL mainly seems to have bikes that were nicked locally, if friends who've spotted theirs there are anything to go by. (Best procedure with BL is to go down with a largeish mate and a Kryptonite lock - lock the bike up you suspect as being yours and phone the police - be prepared to run for it until the police come)

Maybe they could close Heathrow for you, or order the planes to fly a few streets to the left? Maybe check what the commute's like from Chipping Norton?
  11. Anyone else noticed they've been particularly loud recently? Beauregard, my son, runs crying into my room at 5am sharp every morning when these beastly things begin their tuneless braying. WHY are the council not doing anything? Is this not what I pay my council tax for? When I used to live in Hampshire we used to sort things like this out the old-fashioned way - with birds of prey and shotguns - I'll wager those Southwark council beaurocrats have some petty bylaw against this, as usual.
  12. Record levels of 'joke threads' on the EDF lately. Well done everyone.
  13. If you leave a bike overnight and outdoors in London, almost regardless of what it was or was not locked up with, it will be gone / bits of it will be missing come the morning. Spend 10% of the bike's cost on locks and never leave it anywhere where someone can have time alone with it. Keep it indoors overnight. I've lived in London for 10 years and never had a bike stolen, and I ride every day.
  14. It's almost like what I imagine living in a city to be like, what with all of these planes overhead!
  15. I think you've just moved underneath what they call a 'busy flight path'. Remember all that noise in the sky when you came to look around? Every plane that flies over takes another ?500 off the value of your house. Mine's worth -?85k, it's terrible.
  16. Ayers Bakery does a damn fine brownie. Re: My opinion on Cupcakes: I have documented this elsewhere. http://cupcakesareshit.tumblr.com/

If they didn't exist I would have to invent them. Someone's got it right on the money if they aren't real though, applause. The best thing about this forum is drawing out the 'used to be liberal' brigade, they are tremendous value.

What a stupid post. What do climate change deniers do, if not selectively choose / ignore data?
  19. I love a bit of data. You can back any half-baked opinion you have up just nicely if you choose your source carefully.
  20. Nowt gets people riled quite like HARDWORKING HOMEOWNERS being VICTIMISED like this. I'm almost tempted to move out of my house that I WORKED FOR and let these VILE PEOPLE squat in it, just so I can get more material for my next book from this here forum.
  21. Why can't people live exactly the same life I choose to lead? I used to be a socialist, but post-30, post-child and post-overpriced SE22 house I'm not so sure anymore. Not in my back yard!
