ED featured in Time Out this week

The story is that she panic-bought at the height of the 80s boom and lived there for 'a few days' before trading up to Belgravia. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/3335682/Oops-Theyve-done-it-again.html -
New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham
thebestnameshavegone replied to LondonMix's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I remember when the merest mention of Peckham on here (even anything in SE15) would result in snobbish tutting and an immediate 'lounging'. How times have changed. -
Now we've got a chain pizza restaurant, it'd be great if we could get a decent friend chicken place like a Monleys. Can that councillor who comes on here do anything?

that was too easy. -
Can't believe people calling for troops / tear gas etc. amazing. On this day 40 years ago, internment was introduced across the north of Ireland. http://bit.ly/n3Hokz -- knee jerk idiocy can cripple a society.

east dulwich road - rioters
thebestnameshavegone replied to CF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can confirm Rye Lane - touching scenes of looters helping each other double bag stolen whiskey. Seen stuff on Twitter about the one on East Dulwich Road being done over in the last 10 minutes, but Twitter v unreliable. -
I'm expecting Ocado literally any minute - does anyone know if they've been able to get through Rye Lane?

The value differential: ED vs Nunhead & The Oak
thebestnameshavegone replied to MrBen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Imagine introducing capital gains tax on selling your main house. Presto, every boring wannabe 'property enterpeneur' silenced. It'd clear all those shows off the telly. People would be forced to talk about other things. It'd be bliss. (I'd personally live in Nunhead, it's never going to get the 'Stoke Newington' treatment, at least not for the next 5 years) -

Maybe you should join in the legions of well-heeled East Dulwich types who simply rifle through all the stock outside, before it even gets in the shop. Can't get more 'first dibs' than that, and it stops those money-grabbers from marking it up to silly prices too!

the peoples supermarket
thebestnameshavegone replied to bodsier's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I work near the Peoples Supermarket in Clerkenwell and though it's good-intentioned, at work it's referred to as the 'hippy Londis' - there's nothing you can't get anywhere else, it's not cheap etc. I think they need to sort out what they're going to stock a bit better, though the veg is great. Manchester's Unicorn's been going years and is what they are trying to rip off: http://www.unicorn-grocery.co.uk/ Their product lines are fantastic - I don't agree with their enforced veganism (they don't sell honey as 'it's cruel to bes') - but they go from strength to strength and serve as a real cornerstone of the community round there. Something like this would be loads better than a Waitrose or whatever in the area, at least they try and give something back to the community. -
This would be quite useful for knowing where there's been burglaries recently actually. You could check the map for where'd been done recently, wait 1-2 months and there'd be a bunch of shiny new stuff in there. Intrigued to know how this 'increases transperency and acountability' of the police too. These websites don't come cheap, especially when paid for with public money. Would have paid for a whole lot of actual policing.

I see this backfiring horribly. It should be quite easy from this to identify individual crime victims, which I don't see as being a prticularly good thing. In this area especially, considering some of the stuff you see on here, it'll no doubt lead to increased vigilantism. I think people are scared enough of being a victim of crime even though it's still statistically unlikely, so increasing fear isn't a particularly good thing either. You can see it leading for more calls locally for 'more bobbies on the beat', which are also a waste of money.

Wow, this is great! East Dulwich, September 2010: 341 'suspicious' men seen in Goose Green Area.

The interesting thing to come out of it is that some people genuinely think this forum speaks for ED though.
