Does anyone know when the taster sessions at Peckham Rye are on? Or have I missed them already? Thanks

hibbs - I looked in the what's on section but there was nothing much there. Having started this thread I now realise that's because there's nothing much on. It's a bit disappointing really. To the National Trust website...

I've got a toddler and my OAP parents to entertain this weekend. I figured there'd be lots going on in the local area but am really struggling beyond what's on at the DPG and the various goings on at the local pubs (which aren't any good for the toddler). Saw a poster in Bushell's window for the Crystal Palace Easter Carnival - anyone know more about that? Or indeed anyone have any useful suggestions as to what's going on in East Dulwich and environs?

Stewart Lee's programme is the best thing on telly by a mile. But it does feel a bit like Lee and Herring without the Herring at times. Especially since the actors in the skits are the ones that played Rod Hull, The Curious Orange etc. I'm always put off Robin Ince's nights because of Robin Ince. Is it just me or is he incredibly lame? He seems to have cleverly worked out that the way to sustain his career is to hang around with people far smarter and funnier than himself - Lee, Long, Addison, Goldacre etc

Anyone going to Champion Hill tonight for the free footie?
Jamma replied to Jamma's topic in The Lounge
Turnout last night was pathetic. Free football but still I reckon the second poorest crowd I've ever seen at Champion Hill. Really disappointing that people didn't take the opportunity to support their local team. -
Well? I think this should be flagged up everywhere on the forum to get folk along to support their local team. But if you are going can you let me know where you'll be standing so I can guess who is who from off the forum.

This thread is stupid from top to bottom

It's flipping the greatest series on the telly in the last few years. Which is why BBC2 treated it with such disdain just as they did Seinfeld. But I can't quote from it. My brain doesn't do that thing of squirrelling away quotes from series I like. I wish I could do it with Alan Partridge quotes too.

Late night scooter rider in Goodrich Road area...
Jamma replied to SCSB79's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've heard this twonk. Might I suggest all of us concerned simply stand at your window or on the pavement and point and laugh at him. He is doing it just to show off after all and if he was made to look ridiculous instead he'd quickly stop. I'm not sure what these types think is going to happen by having a very noisy scooter. Are the local ladies going to be alerted to his presence by the racket and chase him down the street begging for a date because he has a little bike that makes a lot of noise? In my experience little things that make a lot of noise are rarely a turn on to women. -
I was walking past Alleyn's on Monday night and there was lots of kids with suitcases clearly waiting for a coach to take them on some foreign exchange. I was in my football kit and lots of them wolf-whistled me. I think it's a great school

Why should a conversation consist of one another being prepared to listen and adapt? OK you have to listen. But if the other person is spouting guff then there is certainly no need to adapt. But of course one person's guff is another person's bible. Who decides which is which?

This is great. It's like X-Men 2, we all have to put our differences aside to defeat the really bad people and defend the forum. I bagsy being Dr Jean Grey because she's got the best superhero name.

I think they are a welcome addition. Though Denmark Hill village is as proper a place as Ruskin Village on the other side of the train station. Estate agents have a lot to answer for. Bets on how long before the Kings College rugby team roll out of the George Canning, try to ride the wolf and flatten it? 24 hours I'd say.

Inanity is surely subjective? A forum will wax and wane depending on each person's point of view. As long as there are new people joining it'll continue. My worry is that there seems to be an increasing number of posts deleted by the administrator. Of course once they've gone one can't know what was in them and whether they should have been removed or not. But if people feel they can't get their point across because it's being 'censored' then they'll go elsewhere.

Southwark News - Dulwich Edition

Because the reviewer in the newspaper is someone whose judgment you trust and carries some sort of authority. And also because they write their reviews in a witty and entertaining style (which with all due respect to everyone on here is not something that can be said of the vast majority of postings on any given website). People start buying a local newspaper when they are settled in an area, hence it fosters a sense of community and thrives off a community. Trouble is in London there are very few areas where people actually settle in numbers so they take little interest in the surrounding area and don't buy a local paper. Penk - your mention of churnalism suggests you have at least a passing knowledge of Flat Earth News. My that was a p!sh book wasn't it? -

OK enough of the sarcasm and mockery. The fact remains that a decent local paper (and I'm not necessarily describing the Southwark News as a decent paper) fosters and strengthens a feeling of community. Of course there are a few magazines (of varying quality) around and this here forum but a newspaper is something slightly different (it should carry news as opposed to rumours and the occasional slander) and I think it's to be applauded. -
One estate agent gone, one ponceteria down. The re-sensification of Lordship Lane is beginning. (And will be complete when The Bishop reverts to the Forresters Arms)

My water supply just seems to have been cut off
Jamma replied to nylonmeals's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If I'd phoned the water 'company' (calling them a company infers some sort of competence) I'd have been put through to a robot which would ask me to enter my postcode, it would misunderstand the first time, eventually I'd get a message saying no recorded works in the area. Then I'd have to phone back and be put on hold for ages before speaking to a human who would similarly know nothing of the situation even though quite clearly there's low water pressure in my taps and I'd like to know if the water's going off at any time today. Louisiana's supplied all the info I need without the waste of time and money involved in phoning Thames. Thankyou. And why do they charge you for phoning to report a leak etc, seems really cheeky. -

Low water pressure in Etherow St this morning. Anyone know what's up? I'm more likely to get an accurate answer and more quickly on here than by phoning Thames cocking Water. -

And my woo rants are exactly why I cannot reveal myself at an EDF drinks. My face would be posted up in Health Matters and I'd be banned for life -

So how does a forum drinks work? Does everyone have badges? Only I'll probably be out and about that night, I'd like to be able to go to the Black Cherry and work out who is who without actually having to talk to anyone -
Why are people trying to defend estate agents? It's not just acceptable to be rude to them it's acceptable to key their cars and kick them in the shins (at the least). The sign in the window says Osbourne Stewart have moved, not gone out of business. I presume some folk have lost jobs but does anyone know that for sure? What we do know for sure is that the people that worked there were lame as anything. I did sell a flat myself through a property website, it quite clearly stated on the web page that estate agents were not to get in touch and tout for business. Can you guess which estate agent did indeed send an email? And received a cyber-rocket by return?
-
Ha ha ha. Osbourne Stewart were a disgrace to the estate agent name. And that's saying something.
