  1. A syringe is the way to go. We've got one that says Nurofen on it, must have come with a bottle of kiddie Nurofen I guess. I don't want to really get into this argument here but I have to say that hearing of Health Matters peddling magic water to cure chickenpox does make me angry. It's cashing in on people's distress. There's not really a whole lot you can do for chickenpox other than soothe the spots, any benefit derived from the magic water sold by HealthMatters derived from your child getting better anyway or possibly the fact that you felt you were doing something to help, this relaxed you and the child and made everyone 'feel' better. So I'm not saying homeopathy doesn't 'work' on some level. But it doesn't work in the way the vendor claims. Anyway, please no-one respond to this part of my post there's lots of other homeopathy threads on the forum, I just had to get that off my chest
  2. I was under the impression she had left DMC some time ago. I certainly haven't seen her for a bit (though I don't go to the doctor that often or anything)
  3. Am I being simplistic - the only people to blame here are the husbands. It takes two to make a baby, two to bring up a baby. Why should the woman be lumped with all the pick-ups/childcare/cooking etc? I suggest you sit your other half down an demand he pulls his weight.
  4. I appreciate you don't want to get into a discussion on the benefits or otherwise of a Steiner education, if you did you'd have posted something very different. But in the interests of balance does anyone know if there's a way of registering objections to a free school opening in a certain area?
  5. OK, neither of the above posts makes a huge amount of sense. Are you saying there's a chap coming round selling fish from the back of a van? If so I'm interested - where is he operating?
  6. The reaction when I put the drops in after she'd gone to sleep last night suggests they do sting! Despite me telling her over and over again it's not going to hurt etc. Whoops.
  7. I tried when she was sleeping last night, trouble is she was on her side so I only got one eye done! Got the other one done this morning after a bit of a struggle but no need to be pinned down at least. Will try doing it with her eyes closed, sounds like the easiest option. I figure if just a tiny bit goes in each time then it's better than nothing and will help clear it up eventually.
  8. So 3-year-old goes to nursery. 3-year-old develops runny nose. 3-year-old wipes nose with back of hand. 3-year-old proves very adept at wiping snot into her eye and eye infection ensues. Doctor prescribes eye drops. Then the problems really start. How do you get the drops in her eye? Currently only way is for dad to literally hold her down while she struggle and screams and mum administers drops. It's awful. Tried bribing her but she's too young to make the connection between 'being brave' and getting the toy as a result. It's now such a big deal in her head I can't see how to go about it calmly. All and any ideas and experience very gratefully received. Thanks
  9. Might they actually be from the government checking emissions and that? Anyone got any evidence of them doing or trying anything?
  10. Good thing about JAGS is that you pay as you play as it were. So you can see if you like it. Other classes invariably involve signing up for a whole term.
  11. Depends on the child. When ours dropped her nap she would sort of need a nap every second or third day for a few weeks till she was completely over it. And yes she'd get grumpy at end of day and need to be nursed through to bedtime. An hour in front of CBeebies after lunch served, still does serve sometimes actually, as a good substitute for a nap
  12. I was with berryberry all the way, until the diamonds thing. The topic is about 'venting', presumably of anger and/or frustration and I'm not sure how compatible those two can ever be with 'etiquette'. I found the original post embarrassing but I wouldn't ask anyone to pull it on that basis
  13. My goodness what a depressing thread. I'm with berry berry. Until women stop finding (some) men's shortcomings funny or acceptable there'll never be equality. And until there is equality you're letting all your children down. I'm sure I'm being far too serious. But sexism, misogny, inequality aren't very funny.
  14. So the power has gone out down one side of Etherow Street. How long till I have to chuck/find another freezer for the stuff I've oh so cleverly pre-prepared for Christmas?
  15. Sounds like first thing to do is sort your husband out! Childcare vouchers are good. Really worth it for most people. And if you do work for a generous company you basically get them for free whilst on maternity leave if you went off to have another one. We're with kiddivouchers (or at least my firm is) and they are really helpful and good and setting stuff up, changing things, explaining the whole schamozzle.
  16. I mean this in the spirit of the season but if you approach the task simply as 'gifts' you'll not only widen your options but their horizons too.
  17. I agree with Keef. Except that the staff in JMB are largely women not girls. You daft sexist
  18. I cleared my steps and path and scattered a bit of grit all the way down my street. Why would it not be a good idea? Particularly smart to do it early doors, preventative innit? Though I guess I'll be out there again tonight keeping it clear. It only took about ten minutes max. If all my neighbours did the same the street would be clear and the snow not an issue. But they are probably inside on their computers complaining someone else should be doing it for them.
  19. Unless the restaurant is named then surely this belongs in the lounge as a general 'what should I do if I find a staple in my food' thread rather than as an east dulwich issue?
  20. Might I suggest someone change the title on this thread. It is after all factually incorrect and somewhat alarmist
  21. There does seem to be a lot of breastfeeding threads on here at the moment. Is it the weather? Not sure whether to get a pump or not now - getting conflicting advice which is really frustrating. Why can't the midwives, doctors and lactation consultants agree?! If we do get one then the co-op chemist seems the quickest and cheapest so thanks for the help.

  23. We're having something of a breastfeeding nightmare - engorgement, thrush, mastitis (twice) and blocked ducts. The full set I think. Anyone know where we can get hold of an electric breast pump to hire? (Or indeed got one we can borrow?)
  24. Katy isn't lovely, she's strangely sexless. Like Ceri. I don't know how the BBC do it but their presenters are all entirely nothing. Which maybe what you want from kids presenters I suppose. (Apart from Sid I suppose, he's got something about him. Must be cos he's a Camberwell boy)
  25. Single jabs aren't as effective because people tend to miss appointments and not get the whole course. That's the evidence
