So a lady turned up at my door today to read my electricity and gas meters. She said she was from 'Eco'. Not my supplier but not a million miles away from the actual name. Bit odd as I'd submitted readings just last week. Got more weird when she had to ask me for help reading the electric meter. Phone rang as she left and I thought nothing much more about it. BUT I had to call the power company just now for something else and noticed she was back, hanging around outside the neighbour's house. I told the power company they might want to think about switching contract for their meter readers since she didn't know how to read a meter. They said they didn't send out meter readers. And what are the chances next door on the same power supplier? Now wondering if she wasn't a bit dodgy? In which case watch out for her. And should I call the cops to let them know she's stoating around the area?

Aquarius all the way. It's fine for less good golfers (like me), cheap, nice little clubhouse, friendly bunch and the best views in London. Not many courses where you aim for the Shard on the first tee!

Here we go again! Just a dribble here on Etherow St. 3rd time in 7 weeks, it's pathetic.

No water yesterday/low water pressure this morning Underhill Rd
Jamma replied to IlonaM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just got another text from Thames Water. Unfortunately it just adds to long list dating back to previous incidents. Last time was Sep 4 last year. Always the same at this time of year, can't TW take preventive measures when it's warm in August?? -

By now I really ought to know to start stockpiling water towards the August! This happens so often at this time of year. Anyone remember the 3 day drought of 2003??! I know it's not entirely Thames Water's fault but they could handle these incidents better with accurate & consistent updates. -
I could be wrong but I understand this has been investigated by RSPCA and they believe foxes responsible for most 'attacks'. Would certainly explain the huge number of reported incidents. I understand some media outlets have had this pointed to them but can't resist 'Croydon Cat Killer' headlines.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Jamma replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree with this. Also find myself looking for after school care just now and drawing a blank. Southwark Council list of providers is great resource but be interesting to know if there's a strategy of any sort -
It's high time I did my years of child caring & my wife is able to do a full time job again. With that in mind I'm hoping to change my job to a job share. Anyone here got experience if doing this? Tips for a successful application? Pitfalls to be wary of? What's worked & what hasn't etc? Thanks

Another recommendation for Dave. He came round to service our boiler this week. Very pleasant chap and very reasonable rates.

Unfortunately East Dulwich may be exactly the place for Steiner

Thanks all for advice. After today's open day and speaking to the teacher seems we don't really need to get much of the official stuff at all. I was also going to follow up with a question about name tags - marker pen sounds like the cheapest and most effective solution.

So our daughter starts school in September and we've been given a form by the school with a list of all the various different items of uniform once can buy - sweatshirts, fleeces, t-shirts, caps etc. What to buy? Is one sweatshirt and some white shirts for Sainsbury's enough? Or do we need a sweatshirt and a fleece and three polo shirts and a couple of pairs of black trousers/skirts? Those that have been there and done it, can you offer some advice please?

When my daughter first came along a couple of years ago I only stayed sane I think because once a week I could run around a football pitch for an hour (I didn't kick the ball much as I'm rubbish, I just ran around mainly) Now our Monday night football gang's a little short so could do with a handful of new players so we're getting the teams up to 7-a-side. It's social rather than competitive), the standard ranges from really poor (me) to decent. 7pm kick off every Monday at the 7-a-side pitches at Jags. PM me if you're interested (Apologies to admin if this is in the wrong place but it's not exactly a classifed. Feel free to move if I've got it wrong)

If a firm sponsors the forum does that count as a sort of recommendation, ie can one trust a firm simply because they are a sponsor?

This has happened at least once a year every year I've lived in dulwich. There's a delicious irony (or something) in the fact one has to get the phone number for Thames Water off the back of your bill demanding outrageous payment for this service

There's some interesting points here but I don't think comments to the planners about the pros/cons of Catholic schools will have much impact. I do feel that if enough people raise the travel issue then we can force the school to put in place robust policies to encourage less car use which has got to be good thing for everyone including the school (fitter pupils learn better, less dangerous environment outside the gates etc)

I started a thread about the proposed extension of St Anthony's school in the general issues room. But it got moved to family room discussion. It's not a thread about anything family related, it's about the planning application not the school per se. I was trying to alert local residents to the plans, those without children are unlikely to look in the family room. This seems ham fisted, I'm disappointed. Can I have an explanation of your thinking and maybe move it back to its original position please?

This thread is about a planning application not the school or its admissions policy. I have no idea why the moderator has moved it from the Gen Issues page to the family room.

Received a letter from Southwark Council about this at the weekend. (Looking at the documents it seems local residents were only consulted at the prompt of James Barber). They want to extend the school a bit to take in more pupils which seems fair enough given the huge numbers of primary school pupils in the area. However, currently it's traffic chaos most school mornings as people don't so much park as abandon their cars in a higgledy-piggledy fashion down the street. (The lack of consideration in their 'parking' seems a poor example to set their kids but that's another issue). So I'm not against the extension but I feel strongly that the application must address the traffic issues, for example by having clear proposals for more walking buses or much more parking for bicycles etc. I suggest others in the vicinity do the same

To be clear - I come in peace and I'm not challenging the uber-barry masters Help-ma-boab and SurfBobby. However...3pm strikes me as a late kick off time. Given last year's event actually got underway well over an hour after the official start time I'm concerned this year's race wouldn't start till nearer 5pm somewhat mitigating against the family friendly nature of the day (my kids go to bed at 6!) I appreciate our uber-barry masters will be getting up to hi-jinks with Andy Murray's shoes the night before but any chance the start could be moved earlier?

The phasing is fine in the morning but changed by evening rush hour for some reason. Who does one raise this with??

How do I prevent yukky black stuff coming out of bath toys?
Jamma replied to Lula's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've yet to try this but I learned off Twitter that bleach is the way to go. Followed by extensive rinsing obviously. -
How long does it take to sort out a baby passport?
Jamma replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We didn't do check and send and it came back seven days after we sent it off. Think it's much quicker this time of year, probably takes longer in teh summer when there's more applications innit?
