  1. I went into Chener once in an effort to support my local bookshop rather than giving my custom to Waterstones or Borders or whoever. The book I bought came to ?8.99. I had ?8.98 in change in my wallet but the humourless guy insisted I pay by credit card. As I understand it the shop would have to pay a fee for the credit card use anyway so their cut would be less this way. Idiots. For the sake of 1p I haven't gone back.
  2. Metropolitan Police at the weekend. If anyone's going I'll be the only one there in a pink-and-blue scarf knitted by my nan.
  3. May I suggest it's not that bad out there? That people, including young people, get killed in south london and other cities with depressing regularity but for the last couple of weeks the media's whipped up a little storm. The media will move on very soon. And unfortunately I fear those on here dreaming up schemes to help the yoot will move on too. That's OK. We all manage to rub along as it is. Get out and about and walk the streets, put down your Daily Mail and get out and about and walk the streets and you'll see the vast majority of kids of all ages, colours and class behaving themselves. PS - What's a bugaboo?
  4. I like the idea of se22 however in practice it's like something a primary school class would come up with. I fear Angela's actual experience of publishing is something close to zero. For example the local history stuff was quite interesting but the layout (randomly spread through the 'mag' and broken in atrocious places) was ridiculous. If Angela wants my help as a sub I'm happy to provide it. Organic Olivia though is just embarrasing for all concerned. I'd love to know who think it's a good idea or a good read.
  5. Joe Likes Dinner. I'd like to be first to register an interest in your premium Dulwich soil. I'm going to need some for some raised beds I'm making in the new garden. I'll speak to you about it at football soon hopefully (not sure when as I'm currently ruled out for a few weeks with 'acute lumbago and sciatica'. (Lumbago! Isn't it only old people in the 1950s that get that??) I should've sent this in a private message shouldn't I?
  6. Can help you on the Chris Dickson front but recommend all and sundry get to Champion Hill. I been going for a few years now. Francis Quarm's London Senior Cup semi-final goal against Ford United a few years back is the best goal I ever seen - it was like Ronaldinho's in the 2002 World Cup. Couple of pointers for those going to lovely Champion Hill. The clue is in the name of the ground, it's up a hill so can get a bit breezy. Wrap up warm! And don't swear. There was a marginally mental bloke there one week swearing about Chelsea and he got brickbats off the crowd. If you sit on the right hand side of the crowd there's often 3 old geezers up the back of the stand who make brilliant comments and laugh in a top old man way. They can be just as entertaining as the game sometimes. Pink Army!
  7. William Rose for top notch meat, SMBS for veg and stuff like that, the Cheese Block for er cheese and Nicolas for wine. If she likes to eat then she's well in in Dulwich.
  8. I might have to fight you then because Dulwich Hamlet are waaaaay better than Gillingham!
  9. I've been to a couple of community council meetings. Worthwhile to actually get a look at your councillors. For example a comment by one of them gave away that a councillor lived on the same street as me, when I got wrongly nicked by a parking warden I went straight to her and she got it all sorted out very quickly. Also could see at first hand the utter ignorance of some of the councillors (one in particular, an American councillor for the Village came out with some mind-bogglingly stupid comments) and the switched-onness of others. They discuss items of concern and also how to spend the community council money they get given out - for example on doing up the tennis courts at Belair Park and on new street lighting etc. There's opportunity for the public in attendance to have their say. Not enough opportunity sometimes but usually better that way than to let the agenda slip and let the local loonies hold forth for ages on their pet subjects. Go along, it's just one evening out of your life. If you get bored don't go again, if you like it then get involved. PS - I'm not a councillor or anything, I just think that if you feel local issues are important by all means discuss them on forums like this but also best to actually do something about it.
  10. I intend to wear my pink-and-blue Dulwich Hamlet home-knitted scarf tomorrow so hopefully I'll be spottable. Whether you'll want to be seen at the same table as someone with a pink-and-blue home-knitted scarf is a different matter
  11. I'd like to see the library end of Lordship Lane tidied up a bit. Anyone any ideas what the big hollow building (above the car accessories shop) is going to be? And continued success for Dulwich Hamlet FC. Riding high at the moment and hopefully that'll get more people through the doors. Nothing like a successful football team to foster community cohesion.
  12. I've been to the NYE at the EDT in the past and it was pisspoor. Offered DJs on two floors but only produced one who was way too hardcore for my liking. Food was pitiful and scarce and service at the bar was slow. It was probably worst new year I've known. Until we got back to my place where the party started of course!
  13. Excellent work Simon. Thanks for your efforts. Look forward to it
