The parcel sorters are lying to us
Jamma replied to kitwhitfield's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had exactly this problem. A 'you were out' form on Saturday when I was in the kitchen and watched the postie walk up the path. Clearly he didn't have the parcel with him. Also can go 2 or 3 days without mail and then get a splurge of it. And we get plenty of mail for the couple over the road. I thought it was just that we had a crooked/lazy/inept postman, shame to hear it's the system that's to blame. What's the point of a postal service that doesn't actually deliver things? Still, at least now I know that it's not just me that's affected I'll go from here straight to the Postwatch website and lodge a complaint. -
I'm certainly not new to the forum. (Just having a quiet week at work so can post more!). If Keef's mum is registered blind how can we be sure she was even in the butchers? Maybe she went into Mrs Robinson and asked for a couple of chops and half a pound of mince. In which case the assistant would be justified in being rude. (But probably wouldn't be because I've always found the staff in Mrs Robinson perfectly cheery).
-
I'm not knocking your tale of woe Keef just looking for clarification. Why would your mum need to read the labels in the butcher? Surely she goes in and asks for the meat she wants and is served it? If she needs to know what sort of sausages they've got she asks and they tell surely? If folk don't like William Rose don't go there. It seems to keep enough people happy to have them coming back for more every weekend. And those that don't go every weekend can get their turkey elsewhere. I really don't see the problem. Plus the dark haired girl (the boss's daughter?) is hot.
-
Please do take your business elsewhere if you're not a William Rose regular, that's one less wanker filling the shop on a Saturday with their little darlings and a 3-wheeled pushchair and acting like every butcher in the shop should drop everything to give them 100% of their attention. Go in, buy your meat, pay, say thankyou and have a good weekend and you won't get any attitude out of any of the butchers

Can only speak as you find and we got takeaway from Curry Cabin at the weekend and thought it was good. Not too greasy at all. As for a Chinese it's got to be Chopsticks hasn't it?

There's a simple barometer for when Lordship Lane and E Dul in general jumps the shark - the day AJ Farmer (aka theshopthatsellseverything) shuts down is the day I move out of East Dulwich. That day still seems some way off at the moment.

I find the EDT tends to fill with twonks on these occasions, The Mag offers a better experience. And I think the George Canning sponsors the Kings College rugby team so expect it to be busy.
-
The quiz sounds like it's there for the taking. When are the scrabble nights? Are they open to all and what's the standard?
-
Has anyone partaken of their Thursday quiz night? Any good? It's unfortunate that it's such a big space so tends to look a bit empty, but the fewer people there are the easier to win the quiz.
-
Does Mr Ben work at the EDT I wonder?

Cheap beer and snooker tables if you fancy that sort of thing. Had a mate who was a member a few years back, I think the subs were something like ?1.50 a year.

When I first moved to E Dul it was the most lesbian place I'd ever seen. You could hardly move for lesbians in love. Where have they all gone?

best pub in East Dulwich for watching football
Jamma replied to bailey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Magdala's the best bet. The Forresters Arms used to be the best pub for football by a mile. Seen a few world cup games in there while people in pink shirts were still queueing to get into the EDT. But for rugby the EDT is probably a better bet. -
6 Lordship Lane (& other shop planning applications)
Jamma replied to Nero's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The NHS treatment place on Lordship Lane is not number 6. It'll be more like number 20-something. -
Has anyone used Foxtons introduction 0% sale fee (Lounged)
Jamma replied to rogertebbutt5k's topic in The Lounge
I just hope all the drunk people file out of The Bishop every weekend and smash Foxtons windows on the way home. By accident of course. If everyone sold privately then we could put all these parasites out of business. Plus you'd get to sell your house to a nice person rather than some carrot from Clapham or Islington and East Dulwich would remain an oasis of loveliness -

I love Charlie's comment asking what's bad about Foxtons apart from the lying and lack of morals. What's wrong with Richard Littlejohn, apart from him being a Nazi? Anyway regarding Foxtons, nevermind their evil ways what about the horrific building they are moving into. It's totally out of character with the area and out of character with anywhere that isn't 1988. -
Can I just pile in in support of Property Broker too. Selling through them is dead easy. Most folk want to view properties evenings or weekends when you are likely to be in so you don't have to have someone at home all day to do viewings. And you can do viewings on a Sunday (why to estate agents shut on a Sunday?). Another bonus is that you've met the person you're selling to so when the inevitable hiccups occur during the tortuous legal process you can just call them up and work it out between yourselves. There's no need for estate agents. Fact. Foxtons are evil because they are crooks as shown on the Whistle Blower programme. Whether other estate agents are crooks or not does not take away from the fact that Foxtons are and therefore are a Bad Thing. Plus they think they are cool with there twatty motors. And they treat their staff like the cast of Glengarry Glen Ross.

I've yet to try the new Plough but did notice the bouncer last night (a bouncer on a Monday night!) and the police were outside one night last week so maybe it's taking a while to turn away the undesirables (and questions remain about where they are supposed to go to drink now). Anyway my parents are visiting at the weekend which gives me a good excuse to try the new Plough. Has anyone tried the food? Should we go there for a meal or just a drink? Given the size of the place I'm guessing there'll never be a problem getting a table.

I went to the Green on Valentine's Day a few years back. Absolutely horrendous and didn't get any food because they'd just taken far too many bookings. Went to Hannah's Irish Italian restaurant next door in the end. And now Hanna's is gone and The Green carries on. Rough justice

Owner of The Bishop opens new pub in Herne Hill
Jamma replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm gutted that the Brockwell Tavern (for that is it's proper name, not Ganley's) is becoming another gastro pub. And a bit sad that this Scott chap hasn't answered the questions about why everywhere has to be the same. The Brockwell Tavern was a great pub and scene of two great moments in my family's history. 1 - I watched the Uefa Cup final there that Celtic only just lost to Jose Mourinho's Porto. 2 - It was the venue the one and only time my nan got drunk about 45 years ago. Why not call the re-opened pub the Brockwell Tavern to keep the links with the past? -
Residential Parking Zones in streets off LL
Jamma replied to mixulee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unfortunately this is a car vs non-car debate. A large number of people in East Dulwich make unnecessary journeys, especially to Sainsbury and to school. My street gets jammed every morning with parents dropping off kids at the primary school. I simply don't believe that any of them live so far away that they need to drive to school. However the CPZ issue becomes one of cost too. Not everyone can afford to fork out ?70 or more for something they previously haven't had to pay for and for something that doesn't even guarantee them a space. -
Any chance these eco homes will be open for the Open House London weekend in the autumn? Then everyone could get a look at their leisure.

Just to return to the Crazy Nurse issue (and feel free to hive this off to a new thread if you think Mr Administrator).. I was in the pub with the EDF Allstars the other week when those of us that were left were harangued by a woman I could only describe as a crazy nurse - ie she was crazy and she made a point of telling us she was a nurse. Anyway she then chased me out the pub and attacked me. I wasn't fussed because it wasn't a serious assault or anything. But if said person is the crazy nurse on this forum (and it sounds like it could be) then I'm more than happy to help anyone defend a libel suit since she is a crazy nurse. Anyway, I'm a journalist and I know a bit about such things and she's talking out the top of her hat suggesting anyone on this forum has ever libelled anyone else.

Brilliant, the bakery by the roundabout next to the EDT is to reopen as a cookware shop. Because I just can't get enough cookware in Dulwich between AJ Farmer where you can actually get what you need and Roullier White where you can't. [Edited by the Administrator upon request]

Worth pointing out in relation to the Goodrich road hold up that it was at 9.15am. How much is going to be in the till at that time of day. Similarly Willow on a weekday afternoon seemed a stupid sort of time and place to hold up. It suggests to me the culprits are not locals that know the area well. Not that that is much comfort I guess. In five years in E Dul I'd barely seen a yellow board appealing for witnesses, three in three months does suggest something's up at the moment.
