What happened at Goose Green roundabout around 5.30 last night? Lots of traffic backing up and two buses and a car going nowhere at the roundabout. Hope no-one was hurt. Didn't stop to gawp but my initial suspicion would be to put it down to bad driving by the buses?

Anyone know why there was a helicopter hovering back and forward over the upper east side (ie near the library) around 1am last night?

How often do you hear of houses falling down due to subsidence? Not very often. Whole of East Dulwich is subsiding, our hosue got massive cracks in the wall and visible evidence of a few inches movement but still got insurance. Agree about the trees though, they are the real problem the big green bastards.

Timber merchants Barry Rd / Underhill Rd

I got a shed roof off this fella last week and I shall be very sad to see the business close. Go support it while you can because he's closing up after easter. Some stuff is reduced in price but more importantly cash in on the old boy's super wood knowledge while you can. -
Youth Offenders move in by Goose Green Park!
Jamma replied to Alicia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the administrator should lock down this thread until the facts of the matter can be established. No point in anyone getting hysterical if this is nothing more than rumour-mongering. Anyway, I'd rather live next door to a rapist than a Foxtons estate agent. -
How much does a round cost at Aquarius then? Or are visitors not welcome? And what about at the Dulwich GC, can you walk on as a visitor there?

Oliver Bonas is shit. It's the apogee of Claphamite guff selling utterly useless tat to morons with money to burn. I can only hope that East Dulwich does to OB as Forest Hill did to MacDonalds and they are forced to close. There's a happy medium you know. If only there was a way that both Oliver Bonas and Foxtons could be razed to the ground at the same time. It breaks my heart to see firms like them move to Dulwich, they must know there's a market for their evil.

I think he means Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Yeah I've seen them and reckon there is some inbreeding going on there. They look kind of rough but I've never seen them do anything bad or heard of anything serious either so isn't it a bit off to have a whole thread picking on them just for looking like the ill-educated poories they are? It's not their fault and if they do no harm..

New scam or genuine? (Telegraph reporter)
Jamma replied to lpool's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well East Dulwich has featured in the Telegraph twice in the last few months. Clearly there's a Telegraph writer moved to the area and mining her own backyard so this could be genuine. Sounds like the sort of story the Telegraph would go for in one of their daft supplements -
Yeah I live round there and we have no end of trouble with our indoor aerial. Can get analogue alright but digital is just a pain in the backside, you have to keep moving the aerial by fractions of a centimetre and then you'll only be able to get the BBC channels or just the ITV channels. Rarely can get all channels at the same time. Situated so close to the transmitter at Crystal Palace you'd think we'd be alright. My entirely unscientific theory is that the ladlands buildings get in the way of the signal.

I know it's been said before but E Dul really has jumped the shark huh? This was a useful (if eccentric in some ways) shop. Nothing decent has opened in the area since Foxtons turned up, I hold my head in my hands at the thought of Oliver Bonas.

It was crap. There's enough bars on Lordship Lane that if you are anything less than good then you are going to fail. It didn't seem to quite know what it was trying to prove other than being 'cool'. All mouth and no trousers, but god knows what'll move in in its place with the crazy rents on Northcross Rd

Is there going to be any decent competition for the Hoopers Pub Quiz tonight?
Jamma replied to nutty's topic in The Lounge
You'll regret this thread nutty. I'm the Scottish media quiz champion of the world three times running, when I bring my team to Hoopers you will lose. You will know us by the sick team name. -
The Green - Goose Green - Closed Down.
Jamma replied to LibraCarr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Booked a table at The Green one Valentine's Day a few years back. Disaster. They didn't seem to have factored in the fact that people would actually have to eat their food thereby taking up time. Instead just had folk booked in ever ten minutes and no tables to seat them. Eventually, after rotten attitude from the staff, walked out and went to Hannah's which was ace. Now that was a sad loss. Never went back to The Green and I expect everyone in there that night did the same. Good riddance to The Green it was utterly utterly shite. -
Acorn Estate Agents - has anyone had problems with them?
Jamma replied to seanmlow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yeah we had dealings with them a couple of years ago, they were part of our chain. All were trying to get the deal finished but Acorn held everything up. If you give them the benefit of the doubt they were spectacularly incompetent, at worst they are a bunch of scheming, lying morons. Victoria Scammell was the woman we dealt with. Inept. (Something is only libellous if it's untrue) -
I put our juice cartons in the blue box. If the recycling team don't fancy anything in the box they usually leave it in there so figured they are happy to take the cartons. Similarly I've noticed they'll leave recyclables in the bin if they find anything in there (I put some fat into a plastic bottle and put it in the bin and they wouldn't take it. What am I supposed to do?)

The hostel is for homeless people, in reality mainly asylum seekers/refugees these days. There was some fuss when he changed the use as certain locals made objections on the grounds that there would be more litter and crime based on nothing more than the fact that the people would be foreign. One of the conditions of the change of use was that there had to be a sign out front with phone numbers on that a manager can be contacted on 24 hours in case of any trouble. But I've never had any bother from the people that unfortunately have nothing more to do than sit out the front of the old church and I walk past a couple of times every day. I'm sure most of them are just pleased they are not having to dodge bullets any more. I'm not sure if the white vans are delivering asylum seekers/refugees every morning or bussing them off around the country and to the immigration office in Croydon.

To be fair to Celestial when I moved to E Dul a few years ago they were pretty well the only ponceteria in town. Now there's loads but I still find myself going back to Celestial for cards, wrapping paper, tat. I don't want to see Green and Blue shut down or anything but building this up in to some sort of bitchfight between them and Celestial doesn't seem the way to go about resolving the problem. As far as I understand it there wasn't a problem, Green and Blues was renovated and there was concrete involved, then there was a problem probably involving concrete. If something looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it probably is a duck

What a search on 'swan bake' might not throw up is that 10 days later the Sun had to print a retraction explaining that their story had not a shred of truth in it.

The parcel sorters are lying to us
Jamma replied to kitwhitfield's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That is interesting. I'm inclined not to complain in case the posties find out and get the hump and decide to fillet my letters for cheques and stamp on my parcels even more than normal. That suggests they have ways of finding out who is complaining and 'doing something about it' for good or ill. -

Contacting Tessa Jowell and pointing her to this thread might be a good place to start?
