  1. Surely this school won't be appearing on any league tables if it's not teaching GCSEs etc. Isn't there some sort of law that says kids have to sit GCSEs? What sort of job can you apply for with a 'I'm a Good Christian' certificate?
  2. DagmarJ, we're on the same side. I used the word crap in inverted commas because I don't think there is such a thing as a crap school. There are however crap parents. People who go on about 'putting their child's education first' at the expense of a better community are crap parents because they fail to realise that their child is part of that community. Drives me nuts.
  3. So I'm perusing the Fringe programme decided what tosh to waste my money on this year. I see there's a chap called Liam Mullone appearing and he comes from East Dulwich. I sort of feel like I should see him seeing as we live in the same town (god knows how that works). Does anyone know him or more importantly know if he's any good? Failing that any other East Dulwich comics on at the Fringe?
  4. Thanks for the heads up. Shan't make Thurs but there's some good stuff in the coming weeks. Wilson Dixon very good also Paul Sinha, Rhod Gilbert and I will definitely be at the Marcus Birdman/Phil Nichol show on the 17th
  5. I think the Youngs pub on Camberwell Grove have a Monday night quiz.
  6. Yes I think he/she is suggesting sending your children to a 'crap' school to stop society becoming more divided. It's the best way to go about it that's why. A school cannot be inherently 'crap', it is the product of the teachers, pupils, parents etc that use it. If the majority of kids at a school are sent there with a healthy attitude and know how to behave that school will thrive no matter their ethnic or class background or whatever.
  7. Erm that depends on your definition of 'just making it up' I think
  8. So who to believe - Goose green mum with kids attending and years of experience of the school and what sounds like a very sensible attitude re learning equality and respect over stupid government targets, or the inspectors who visited for a few days and who are all about government targets? Tough huh?
  9. Is 21 Etherow St the nice house next to the school set back from the road? Or is it the house on the corner that is deemed Etherow St by some bizarre addressing issue like so many houses in east dulwich seem to be?
  10. I missed the consultation unfortunately. Is there anywhere else I can see the plans, artists impressions etc? The subsidence and traffic issues seem obvious problems on the face of it. Plus the fact the property market is going nowhere.
  11. No we were at the George Canning on the Tuesday night. But I can exclusively reveal that there is no quiz on a Tuesday night at the Canning. Bah. Next up it's the Prince Regent in Herne Hill. Returning to Hoopers time after time shows a lack of ambition Mr Nutty. How many teams did you have to 'defeat' this time? 2?
  12. I don't suppose anyone knows if there's a music round involved at The Vale quiz?
  13. No it's the other American that works there. Tall chap.
  14. I love the American quizmaster at the Plough. It's a good, good natured quiz. But needs a music round.
  15. Fool. You've had your flukey win, just walk away with your dignity intact. We too are expecting a return to action that week though the venue and date are still to be decided...
  16. Oh Sean, you've embarrassed yourself with this one haven't you. Leave comedy and satire to the professionaly comedians eh? Why not just delete this whole thread and we'll all say nothing more about it.
  17. Would be a shame if it's Springers, that's the best eating out place in East Dulwich by some distance
  18. Funny, when we bought through Haart it went to sealed bids too. Seems to be something of a pattern here...
  19. I love it. Fushchia wanted to take her five-year-old for a treat so went for a croissant at a cafe. What about a trip to the park or something a five-year-old might actually enjoy? Sorry for being a bit off topic but I find myself siding with Louisa on this one. And that's generally a worrying sign.
  20. At risk of opening up a different debate I don't see why it matters that the pram-pushing girls were Muslims. Do you describe everyone by their religion, or even ethnicity if you must see it that way, even when it has no bearing on the story you are telling? Just think about what you are saying there.
  21. There was no home nation involvement at the 94 world cup (Ireland is a foreign country, deal with it) but my local pub had a sweepstake. I drew Romania, my mate drew Sweden, when they met in the quarter finals it was one of the all time classic nights in the pub. It's a good way of creating a sort of temporary attachment to a team and given the result last time no matter who you draw at the Euros there's a chance you could win. Anyone work out how one could organise some sort of sweepstake through the EDF? With 16 teams and hundreds of folk posting here we could have vast swathes of E Dul backing any particular team
  22. Have you collated all the figs into 'others' or is that how the figures were published? I'd like to know how many BNP voters there are in the area (and then hunt them down and kick them in the cunt)
  23. Oh Moos you've embarrassed yourself terribly. That's not Frank Spencer
  24. You got lucky punk. Last night was an aberration for our team. You will never win another pub quiz in this town again. Ever. Fact.
