There is a small tabby cat which seems quite distressed and lost behind the bins outside the back yard of Superdrug at the Lordship Lane end of North Cross Road. It is terrified, running in and out of Superdrug’s back yard and across the road and back again, and looks as if it could be pregnant. It is also starving – a passer was feeding it. We weren’t able to catch it as it was too scared. Did ask the Neighbourhood Vet if anyone has reported a missing cat, but they said not.

Cutting down of the Cherry Tree Peckham Rye Park
joseph holly replied to Hen123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thank you to fishboy and the other locals who rightly challenged the contractors! We're all lucky that you happened to be in the park at that time. This beautiful tree is worth fighting for. It has now survived two misguided attempts to fell it, the first in 2013 and the second in 2025. The actions of local residents have saved it on both occasions. Let's hope it hasn't been too damaged this week so that we can all continue to enjoy its beauty. -
Cutting down of the Cherry Tree Peckham Rye Park
joseph holly replied to Hen123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For me, this all started back in 2013 when I saw a notice on this tree which has always been a landmark and favourite in Peckham Rye Park. Local residents saved it then and it has gone on to flower beautifully every year since then. People love it, it’s beautiful in all seasons (see photos). It’s had to put up with the vandalism inflicted on it by the setting up for the Gala festival last year, in order to make way for the horrendous Berlin Wall that now appears annually. Too much of a coincidence that this tree was ‘in the way’ last year and suddenly is in dire need of felling this year, before Gala swallows up even more of our park. Could it be that all about the money? -
Can't believe this stunning tree, which looks beautiful whatever the season, has been lopped to make way for a metal monstrosity. Vandalism!

We would like to strongly recommend Andy (along with so many other extremely satisfied customers on this forum). His company is called Andyman services and we have seen other threads (eg. Handyman recommended ?.. Andy/ Recommendations for Handyman needed) where customers have posted very positive reviews about him. Andy has completed other jobs for us in the past, including painting and decorating and bathroom works. Today he has just given our shower room a makeover and it looks fantastic! He removed old silicone and replaced it. He also sorted out a leaking shower tray and renovated a sink and shower head. Andy cares about the work and was keen to ensure that the various jobs were completed to our satisfaction. We were impressed by the way he tidied up as he went along. He also left the area he was working in looking immaculate at the end of each day. Andy is helpful - offering advice and tips about how best to maintain the works in the future. He is reliable and professional and we are extremely happy to recommend him!

Landscaper and Gardener recommendation - Exterior Design Gardens
joseph holly replied to joe123's topic in Reviews
We would like to strongly recommend Oli Hawkins ? Exterior Design Gardens (Gardenman ? Nigel?s son) and Aaron, a member of his team. There are other wonderful reviews for them on this forum and we reiterate everything that has already been said. They have done amazing fencing and architectural trellis work for us to cover up a neighbour?s ugly fence. The difference they have made to our own garden is astonishing! They had really imaginative suggestions and the standard of their work is excellent. They also create patios, pergolas, flower beds, lawns etc. and maintain gardens as well. They are a pleasure to deal with and are prepared to go that extra mile as they really enjoy and care about the work they are doing. They are prepared to listen to your ideas and help you develop and visualise them, before creating the final design for you. We couldn?t be more pleased and would not hesitate to recommend these extremely professional young men to you! Contact number is - 07549418219 -

If you are looking for a beautiful, romantic coastal cottage, then please look at the attached photographs. We have just renovated an idyllic fisherman?s cottage on the Northumberland coast and are now making it available as a holiday let. It is the perfect retreat for all seasons, with panoramic windows overlooking the changing tides and glass Juliet balconies to shelter you from the breeze. An unspoiled 7-mile stretch of golden sand is a stone?s throw from the cottage and the sunsets are breathtaking. The cottage does sleep up to three, but we regret that we don't allow pets and the cottage is unsuitable for young children, as it is so close to a bank top overlooking the sea. The cottage has central heating, wood burning stoves, Wi-Fi, 50 inch smart television in lounge, 40 inch wall-mounted TV in master bedroom. Kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances. Located mid-way between Newcastle and Alnwick, it is perfectly situated for touring Northumberland, a region steeped in history with many castles, stately homes and gardens all within easy reach by car. An excellent beach caf? (open all year round) is a short walk away while bird-watching, walking, fishing, cycling and golf are all available locally. If you are interested, please pm us and we will send you more details/photos. More photos to follow.

Another recommendation for Andy - he re-sealed a shower and decorated part of a bathroom. Andy was prompt and reliable.

'I long for a fenced lead only area if anyone knows of one anywhere, I will drive to it let me know thanks.' Chunksmum - there is already a fenced lead-only area in Peckham Rye Park; the Japanese garden is completely fenced off and dogs are only allowed in there on their leads. You could walk your dog safely there without fear of attack. The Japanese garden is also very close to the park entrance near the cafe on the rye, where the car park is, and also very close to the park warden's office.

I?ve just returned from my twice-daily walk around Peckham Rye Park with my dogs. I made a point of looking out for uncollected dog-poo and spotted ONE (in the middle of the large field past the Oval). It could well have been fox-poo by the look of it, but I collected and binned it anyway. I saw NO others throughout the whole walk, despite looking out for them. When I noticed my dogs lingering around a bench on the pathway between the top fields, I went back to investigate and found the ground around the bench littered with loads of fried chicken bones and discarded chips. There was a bin further down the same path. Walking back past the arboretum fenced-in picnic area (dogs not allowed in there) I saw a couple of families enjoying their picnics on the benches. The gate to the area had been left wide open, so I closed it. The picnic area was strewn with rubbish ? plastic bottles, plastic bags blowing around, loads of paper on the ground. One of the park staff arrived in his buggy, went in to the area and started clearing up the litter while the families carried on with their picnics. It seems to me that some people only come to the park when it?s warm enough to eat outdoors, then abuse it. What was that survey called ? ?Dogs in parks, what do you think ?? On the evidence of my walk today, there should be another much more relevant one entitled ?Litter in parks ? what do you think ??

I went down to Peckham Rye Park (walking the dogs !) and noticed that there is a stack of ?Dogs in Parks ? What do you think?? leaflets in the doorway of the Park Wardens? office. Having now seen the leaflet, I am also extremely concerned that like the survey, the leaflets seem to be adopting a skewed view from the outset. The premise appears to be ?There is a problem with dogs in the park ? what do you think needs to be done ?? rather than ?Do you think there is a problem with dogs in the park, and if so, what do you think needs to be done ?? The impression one gets is that the decision may have already been taken to introduce designated dog areas to all Southwark parks, and that the council is simply seeking public support for this before they spend money on it. My family (and dogs) have been Southwark residents, and daily (in the summer, twice daily) users of Peckham Rye Park for over 20 years. In all that time we have never witnessed or been party to a dog-related problem or incident. The many dog-owners we have met have all been responsible and careful about clearing up after their dogs. I think something which may or may not be an issue in other Southwark parks has been automatically presumed to be an issue in all Southwark parks, and in my experience this is emphatically not the case in Peckham Rye Park. The introduction of designated dog areas in Peckham Rye Park would ruin the enjoyment of a large proportion of the public who currently use it. Dog-walkers who currently allow their dog(s) to run free off the leash with no problem would be confined to a specific area ? this would mean that more dogs would be more often in closer contact with each other, and this could well lead to dog-related problems. In my view, this survey has been poorly drafted and is therefore a waste of council tax funds. It is prejudiced against dog-owners in general, and seeks from the outset to justify the imposition of punitive restrictions on dogs and dog-owners in all Southwark parks because of the transgressions of an irresponsible minority in some Southwark parks. It would be far better to introduce measures to target and punish the irresponsible small minority that are the cause of the problem.

It has managed to fly a short distance and I think it is in one of the back gardens on Therapia Road. At least it is now away from any cars.

There is an injured Canada Goose in Therapia Road at the junction with Scutari Road. Does anyone know of an organisation that could help to rescue it?
