former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Loz replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good luck, James. You've been a credit to East Dulwich. Ridiculous that such a hard-working councillor gets voted out. But, as they say, the great thing about democracy is that it gives every voter a chance to do something stupid. -
I think what we have learnt from the council elections is that Leavers are very focussed on voting to get the Brexit they want and us Remainers are all over the shop.

Not entirely true, Sue. If you use something like Mailchimp and you can show that they have all previously opted in (as they would have accepted the 'please confirm' email), you'd be OK. If you don't have that evidence, you will need to get them to opt in. We use Mailchimp, but we migrated a list over, so I have to get everyone who was on that list to re-opt-in, but anyone since the upload is OK.

Because you think the 27 (of 63) female current councillors are completely unable to represent their own gender? Much better to vote for a candidate with no chance whatsoever.

The Express is a truly awful newspaper where everyone is FUMING and in SHOCK about a BACKLASH to some HORROR. It makes the Mail look intelligent and the Guardian look like it has a sense of humour.

You deemed the upcoming royal wedding 'offensive', so I suspect you've set the bar particularly low.

Really? Bit of a hypersensitive reaction to a wedding.

Blunt speaking. What's the point pf points on knives?
Loz replied to Captain Marvel's topic in The Lounge
Captain Marvel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I certainly never use the point of my kitchen > knives. What's the point? Cutting onions properly needs a pointy knife. Cutting squishy tomatoes. Cutting pastry. Stabbing the top of those film covered trays for microwaves. Opening a bag of frozen peas. Loads of things. What tiny, weeny percentage of knives are used in a bad way?? And if we did ban them, how quickly before they found something else to attack each other with, making the whole exercise entirely - and rather ironically - pointless. -

Wow, you seem a pretty unpleasant sort of person. And not a little sexist for assuming the OP was male.

They are very different.

Alpbach is very pretty, but unless you are a very slow skier or easily amused, you won't get much more than a couple of days out of it. St Anton would be my recommendation - you can get the train straight there in just over an hour from memory. Accommodation can be a bit pricey, though.

So, yes, I do know what amazing value immigrants bring to this country. :) And I also know that it would be damn near impossible for me to find four pieces of documentation for each of the years I have been here. And that's coming from a bit of a document magpie. But, over to you. With your experience, you'll be able to tell us what you think is a sensible immigration policy.

Most of my 'crap' jobs have been bearable - cleaner, parking attendant (with a couple of days valet parking, which was fun), parcel delivery, sporting venue hamburger cook, painter, forklift driver, barman. The worst was a (fortunately) two-day temp job as 'builders assistant'. The job was to move about 20 tonnes (from memory) of breeze blocks/cinder blocks from the pavement down some stairs to the basement of a shop in Knightsbridge that was being renovated. (It was becoming a branch of Jigsaw). Down stairs meant no wheelbarrows or anything - I carried the lot. I did two eight hour days and slept for about 14 hours each night. Knackered. Can't remember what I got paid, but it was cash-in-hand and not very much.

IlonaM Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Human rights groups publish ?how-to? guide to > resist the ?Hostile Environment?: The current Windrush ridiculousness is what happens when policy gets ramped up to ever increasingly stupid levels. Someone who has been living in the UK for 20, 30, 40 years must have a paper trail that should be easy to establish to an reasonable level that someone has been in the country for most of their lives. But the home office has been asking for - I think - four pieces of evidence per year someone has been in the UK. Utterly ridiculous. But... I don't think that documents like this help at all. This seems like a case of bandwagon-jumping - leveraging the Windrush fiasco with a document that pretty much opposes every check for legality of status. Personally, I think part of reason the 'hostile environment' was established was was to try and disrupt the tactic that some support groups were using to slow down and flood the system by employing each and every single legal line for each and every case, dragging the process out for years. So, on one side we have the "No Immigration" camp and on the other the "Let Everyone In" camp. Neither is correct. We are at this point because the two extremes clashed. Somewhere in the middle there is a sensible policy but, right now, we are nowhere near that because none of the players in the debate seem to actually want a sensible policy.

The elections are May 3rd. The deadline for registering is midnight tonight. All sorts of utter dross this year. May's Tories and the Brainless Brexit Bunch? - Nope. Corbyn's Labour and the Mad Momentum Misfits? - Nope. Greens? - Ha ha... What? You're serious? Nope. [insert name of pointless single issue party here]? - Nope. Nope. Nope. So, it's Lib Dems by sheer process of elimination. And frankly, they aren't exactly worth it at the moment, either. Oh, how I hark for the time not too long ago when the parties all fought over the centre. Now they just take a steaming dump over it.

Windows 10 automatically upgrades. But earlier versions of Windows are not being upgraded. They used to try that, but it finished a couple of years ago.

anyone know good car hire without added extras in Malaga airport
Loz replied to Minitoots's topic in The Lounge
Oh, the other Goldcar trick is to have you sign on a electronic pad to 'approve your credit card transaction', then print that signature all over the agreement wherever they want. I'd be interested to know what the legal validity of a printed signature is. PS Car companies don't like debit cards, as it is harder to just chuck on extra charges after the event if there is no money in the account. -

Yep, avoid Goldcar like the plague: a complete bunch of fraudsters - and I do not use the term lightly. Refused to accept my third-party excess insurance and made me pay out a huge amount at the airport for what should be optional insurance anyway. No insurance, no car. Great heap of people at the airport that day going through exactly the same as me. They are nearly always the 'cheapest' on comparison sites, but turn out to be wildly expensive. Apparently Firefly aren't much better. either. I now always use Avis via BA exec club - cheap, plus you get an extra driver thrown in for free. And no hassles at the airport. They once even very nicely changed my fuel option from 'return full' to 'return empty' when I couldn't find anywhere open on a Sunday. They could have charged me a quite hefty refuelling bill.
