  1. The pigeon thing was a joke! I'd also like to see a desision made too.... as it's also opposite my house!
  2. That's the other corner I think! I was under the assuption that the bombsite house was what is now the flats and the end of the terrace? I thought that was sold already? I remember seeing a request for planning permission a good few years back for a 5 storey block there, can't remember if it was ever approved though, anyway there are pigeons living in the roof now so they can't demolish it!
  3. By law a shop that size can't trade for over 6 hours on a Sunday. I actually wish all the trolleys could be pound coin ones, we live on Ivanhoe and I'm so fed up of the trolleys dumped there! Oh and I like the self service checkouts, esp the conveyer belt ones, rarley have to queue and much quicker!
  4. Southdown House was demolised long ago and the 'bombsite' on the corner of Ivanhoe and Bromar is now flats, not sure if you're still around here so thought you might like to know! I'm on Ivanhoe so if anyone wants me to take some piccies of how it is now I'd be happy to!
  5. It's a mash up! Pie and mash up!
  6. Place Bakers, they had 3 shops on Lordship Lane, 1 is now Hursts? bakers, 1 is Badger Bakery by the plough, 1 is now HSS hire shop I think, opposite the Harvester, that one had the bakery at the back. 1 in Forest Hill, think is's dentist now and 1 in the village. I had Saturday jobs in 2 of the LL branches, as did a few of my school friends. I remember the Harvester still being the Grove Tavern, must have been early 80's as I was very young, they had a sheep in the beer garden called Mint Sauce! From memory he used to just wander round the garden with all the kids stroaking him! The Forest Hill Tavern used to have childrens entertainers every Saturday through the summer, magicians and the like, I remember watching them with a bottle of Coke with a straw and a packet of crisps, again probably early - mid 80's. Spar on Forest Hill Road opposite the cemetary, so handy for those of us who lived at the top of Forest Hill Road! The vegetable hut at the bottom of Forest Hill Road, known to locals as 'The Hut'. 'The Wool Shop' at the botton of Forest Hill Road, Owned by Ray and his mum, they sold all sorts in there! The Moore Park on Wood Vale (think that may be SE23 though) many memories of under age drinking and pool playing till the early hours. The Irish shop being on Underhill Road. The Chinese/chippy on Whateley Road by the police station, 10p onion rings, we used to buy as many as we could afford and just walk home eating them! The 12A bus. I'm sure I'll think of many more!
  7. What road do you live on AndyStar?
  8. They're running fine, one just went past my window! Perhaps TFL site is having probs, check out Live Departure Boards.
  9. bawdy-nan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dulwich Hamlet Steel Band were amazing (who is the > very sexy teacher????) Sounds like it could be Daniel, the steel pan teacher, he teaches at a fair few schools including Dulwich Hamlet and DKH, he's an amazing music teacher, and your 'description' fits ;-P
  10. Just out of interest Barry, Do you know what happened to the dog that was on the tracks for a few hours on Friday? Last I saw, 2 men (possibly Network Rail) tried to coax him but he panicked and legged it back towards ED station, hope he is ok, he was very scared!
  11. Wow, 14? We've found lots of big familys in our trees, but I think 8 is the most... so far!
  12. That is extremely helpful, thank you so much! My hubands Great-grandfather was a gravedigger according to the census so ties in nicely, though how they fitted 2 adults and 7 children in there is another mystery! Thanks for the link Louisa, will have a good look later! Vicki
  13. Morning all, I'm hoping someone with some local history knowledge may be able to help me, I am researching my own and my husbands family tree, and have found that my hubands ancestors lived in Rockells Place in around 1911. I grew up on Forest Hill Road in the 80's so know Rockells Place, but I'm pretty sure the houses round there are quite new, does anyone have any recollection of what was there before or when the current houses were built? Many thanks in advance if anyone can help! Vicki

  15. After having read your post very carefully, I have to agree that although this man didn't have to be quite so heavy handed, and could have perhaps said 'Excuse me I'm in a rush, do you mind if I uses the machine first.' It does indeed seem that you weren't actually using the machine but had all your belongings; cheque book, card, papers and purse resting on the machine and were using your phone, so to anyone else it may have seemed like you weren't using the machine at all, which can be extremely irritating to someone in a rush who has come into the back to find that only one till is open, and the bank is full of people! To sum up, perhaps he should think about the way he speaks to people, and you should think about not obstructing the machine before you are actually ready to use it?
  16. We are very sorry to hear of the difficulties you have experienced and heartened to hear from others of the good things we are doing. We want to get things right all the time and we can only do so with your help. So we want to hear from you directly. Who is this 'we' of which you speak??

    Police cars

I saw them all fly past Goose Green earlier, 2 vans and 4 cars, I did wonder - Sorry no help I know!
  18. I've just read this in this months 'Southwark Life.' "More than ?42,000 was awarded to the East Dulwich crime reduction fund, a joint initiative with the police's safer neighbourhoods team It has paid for a range of measures including alert boxes for businesses around Lordship Lane and personal alarms for local people. It is also funding hand held metal detectors to help the police combat the carrying of knives plus traffic calming measures and neighbourhood watch signs." Has anyone heard anything about this?
  19. For anyone who drives to DKH, it may be a good idea to avoid Bromar Road if you can, since Sunday at least half the cars that go up don't make it to the top!
  20. I live between ED and PR stations, so the ED line is deffo running, can't be sure about anything from on the Denmark Hill / PR line though - sorry!
  21. They've been going past my window since about 11 last night, lots of sparks but they're deffo running! Safe journey!
  22. Yep, it'll be an indoor meat market, cosmetics superstore, or giant barbers / Western Union / internet caf?.
  23. I'm going to the O2 later this month and will be doing the ED - London Bridge followed by boat (James Bond style) option, It'll no doubt be freeeeezing but more memorable - I don't get out much!
  24. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7708430.stm My thoughts go to the little girls family at this terrible time.
  25. They will be taking boys from September '09, but the new school won't actually open until September 2010. The new intake will spend the first year at Langbourne Primary School up on the Kingswood Estate. They will only be taking in one year at a time, so the school won't reach its full capacity for 5 years. That said, they aren't guaranteeing (SP?) a Sep09 intake yet, but you can apply for a place.
