drops of help? (anyone know of this company/charity?)
giggirl replied to underhillroad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
AJM - I've never managed to get a straight answer to the really simple question "how much of my donation goes to your company" when asked of a chugger. I sense a lack of transparency. Is that fair comment? -

AJM, what's your take on chuggers? -
"dangerous and immoral". Amen to that.

I would not mind either, but I suspect I would find it odd. That's not the same thing as minding. > Charities in this country are already supported by > tax payers, by the national lottery, raffles > etcc... So what? So they might get some money from the national lottery AND they have the nerve to want to raise more money from other sources. They're fundraisers. That's wht they do. More power to them. > As you said there are many charity workers, but > there are also many highly paid directors, who > would not give a penny of their salary to support > the charity they represent. It's not my business how they spend their money and it's not YOUR business how they spend their money. -

I would say that it is the mandate of, for example, the Red Cross, to raise money for the Red Cross, not to assist the poor in any particular catchment area. Same goes for Cancer Relief, Mind, or any other. If I was to put a designer item in a charity bag and whoever sorted through that bag on behalf of the charity decided that that item would fetch more money in a different neighbourhood then, more power to them. I give the item freely, hoping that the charity make as much money as possible. I've no desire to see someone walking up Lordship Lane in one of my dresses. Lots of people who work for charities are volunteers, but there are some paid directors and managers. That's not a bad thing. -

Yes I would call that charity, Concita, so long as the ?85 raised by the shop by selling your coat went to the named charity that you had donated to. Everything is supply and demand and sometimes things end up being worth more than we paid for them - obviously this was the case with your coat. It must have been a lovely coat so congratulations. I give a lot of designer items to charity via the bags put through my door. If the charity can get as much or even more than I paid for the item then I'm happy for them. Why wouldn't I be? -
Neil Diamond back on sale again at the Electric Proms. Be quick. Use the link I posted yesterday. If it goes off sale again keep trying.

Oh, oops. I haven't been on the forum much recently. See what happens when you take your eye of the ball. I've learned my lesson now though "watch the forum" is my new mantra. Anyway - I'm not leaving my bag of goodies out for these horrible people. Something didn't look right so I'm glad I checked.

I've just filled a charity bag and put it out for collection tomorrow. It was only then that I bothered to look at the charity name. It's called "The Drops of Help Ltd". Tag line says "the drop of help in your hands will support the poor families, orphans and asylums". Never heard of them so I did a search at the Charity Commission (http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/) and that came up blank. So who are they? Anyone know?

BBC Electric Proms at the Roundhouse this week. Some tickets back on sale again. Elton John - Thursday Robert Plant - Friday Neil Diamond - Saturday You can still buy Robert Plant and Neil Diamond. There's a few of us from the Forum going to the Neil Diamond gig this Saturday so if you can't find anyone to go with then just buy yourself a ticket and PM me so we can meet up. Elton John (Thursday) night is currently showing sold out but if you want to go just try the link on Thursday and they will be back on sale again then. Basically, if any of the gigs show sold out just try again on the day of the gig. The Roundhouse is brilliant, the tickets are less than ?30 each (which is a bargain these days) and the gigs start at 8pm prompt so there's no hanging about waiting. What more do you want? http://www2.seetickets.com/see/event.asp?e%7Cartist=BBC+ELECTRIC+PROMS+2010&n|artist=null&resultsperpage=20&filler1=see&filler2=rss&filler3=0&orderby=date

Give notice on the flat and move out. There is no point being miserable at this time of year. No matter how nice your flat is in the spring/summer, it's not worth living like this now. Good luck to your landlord for replacing you. Serves him right if he doesn't find someone until the spring.

I love Iceland. OK I don't go there all that often - but when I do I love it. My maths skills are questionable so I like that I can always add up what's in my basket and have the right money ready for the till. A small thing - but it makes me feel less useless than I am.

I learned that red can be a surreal experience. It was indeed a little ?sudden on the eye?. Especially when surrounded by those who had actually obeyed the dress code. -
Speak to your doctor Pearson. I understand that there's lots of drugs you can get nowadays to soften the blow. I've had friends who have been heavy smokers but gave up with help from their doctors. I know nothing about dune hypotherapy. Good on you for wanting to quit. Big mistake to think you can be a social smoker after a few months - don't fall into that trap again. I have up for a year once and then started to smoke again - duh! Best of luck.

No, right you are Woof, I've got a litre on order for my back parlour. It's Magnolia, but you can't use that word any more can you (or people think you're down-market)?

Or, as an alternative to the above Captain Scarlet, perhaps just people who don't like "!!!!!!" after every single point that someone makes in a post. I don't like the grammar police any more than you do but this "!!!!" tests the patience.

So Mr P - what were you telling me was a low-carb, low-fat Indian meal again?
