  1. Wow Snowstrumpet was a hottie (her boobs are a bit Victoria Beckham but that's nitpicking). Well done Bodger.
  2. I have never once had a Christmas bonus.
  3. Yeah OK the dog is nice but Evie has a better wardrobe and knows how to work her accessories. She's a little on the slutty side but hey, it's Christmas so let's not judge her.
  4. I was in my dentist's chair the other Saturday and she came and delivered his lunch to him. What service. What a lovely lady. I shall definitely be needing a pie very soon.

    The Pogues

Thank you for that FJD - The Bottle of Smoke has raised a smile or two on this otherwise grim day. In the same vein, I give you the Body of an American. The cadillac stood by the house And the yanks they were within And the tinker boys they hissed advice 'Hot-wire her with a pin' We turned and shook as we had a look In the room where the dead men lay So big Jim Dwyer made his last trip To the home where his father's laid Fifteen minutes later We had our first taste of whiskey There was uncles giving lectures On ancient Irish history The men all started telling jokes And the women they got frisky At five o'clock in the evening Every bastard there was piskey Fare thee well going away There's nothing left to say Farewell to New York City boys To Boston and PA He took them out With a well-aimed clout He was often heard to say I'm a free born man of the USA He fought the champ in Pittsburgh And he slashed him to the ground He took on Tiny Tartanella And it only went one round He never had no time for reds For drink or dice or whores And he never threw a fight Unless the fight was right So they sent him to the war Fare the well gone away There's nothing left to say With a slainte Joe and Erin go My love's in Amerikay The calling of the rosary Spanish winde from far away I'm a free born man of the USA This morning on the harbour When I said goodbye to you I remember how I swore That I'd come back to you one day And as the sunset came to meet The evening on the hill I told you I'd always love I always did and I always will Fare thee well gone away There's nothing left to say 'cept to say adieu To your eyes as blue As the water in the bay And to big Jim Dwyer The man of wire Who was often heard to say I'm a free born man of the USA

    The Pogues

Well Brendan, Sally MacLennane and Waltzing Matilda are favourites. Then I switched to best of and there are just so many to choose from. Thousands are sailing, If I should fall from grace with God, Turkish Song of the damned, Bottle of Smoke, Fiesta. So much choice and so hard to narrow down to favourites. Lullaby of London would make it on to my Desert Island Disc list though. I never get tired of listening to that.

    The Pogues

On a positive note, thank you to Ratty for starting this thread and reminding me that I haven't listened to the Pogues in yonks. I spent a happy 40 minutes queueing in the post office with Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.
  8. You're not paranoid LegalB - I don't open my door at night if I'm on my own.

It isn't supposed to be funny - it is a direct quote.

    Happy christmas your arse
  12. I'm loving today's Kings of Leon news. They've postponed their O2 gig this evening - because of fire on their tour bus at the O2. Couldn't make it up.

    The Pogues

I didn't discover the Pogues until the late 80s, just before they sacked Shane. To be fair they had cause; he spent many a set shambling around spilling his beer and trying to light his cigarette and singing seemed way down on his list of priorities. I saw a few shows with Joe Strummer before Shane returned. Shane is the best though. As shambolic as he is he has magic in spades.

    The Pogues

No I missed them but I saw Camille O'Sullivan on Saturday night and she sang Fairy Tale of New York (quite wonderfully) with her band, as an encore. Shane is the best. How is he still alive though?
  15. Loving the nipple tassles Luved
  16. Never ever thought Keef would make it to his 40s, let alone his 60s. Someone up there is really looking out for him. I saw Anita Pallenberg up close and personal recently; she looks like she's lived hard and it shows.
  17. Hugs Mr Ben Truly sorry. I hope you bounce back quickly.
  18. I've been listening to Cork's finest, Camille O'Sullivan. to get a fix of Bowie/Brel/Cave/Cohen/Reznor. The woman is feareless and was worth venturing out in the snow for in my party frock (despite being stood-up by a snow-bound wimp).
  19. Something dancy from the B52s
  20. Tara Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Giggirl - so anyone who dares to air a frustration > on the forum gets branded as nasty and vile huh? Here you go Tara "I have heard people say Green and Blue are "up themselves" before, but this was the first time I had experienced it first time." This is a public forum. That is a vile and nasty thing to write about a local business on a public forum. That is not airing a frustration; it's name calling.
  21. Sympathies Rosie. I once sat opposite a guy who had some pretty nasty personal habits (let's leave it at that). It took me the longest time to pluck up courage to speak to ask him to cease and desist and it honestly didn't go well. Good luck though.
  22. It's not often that I have bad things to say about the EDF but this is one of those times. What an abuse of the forum this thread is; unless I missed something and the EDF exists just to stick the boot into local businesses at the drop of a hat. Is that what we're about? This, as an opening gambit from the OP is bang out of order and deserves an apology: "I have heard people say Green and Blue are "up themselves" before, but this was the first time I had experienced it first time." Inflamatory, much? Nasty. Spiteful. The single most "up themselves" bit of prose I?ve read so far is the email written by Mr X to G&B. Is that supposed to be amusing? Because to me it's supercilious and sarcastic and that?s not how you talk to people. Green & Blue has a policy in place, which it stands by. Good for them. They?ve apologised to you (needlessly I would say), they?ve offered you free wine, a free bag. How much more gracious would you like them to be? What would you like? Because it seems to me that what you would like is to do damage to a perfectly sound ED business. Vile.
  23. Sorry for your trouble. Callows on LL are excellent. They might not fit a door but they'll certainly point you to someone local who would.
  24. Probably not big enough, but worth a mention: http://www.karmakabs.com/
  25. For many years Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was one of the books I most wanted to read and never got round to. When I finally read it I was most disappointed; mediocre writing at best; schoolgirl diary at worst. The story endures though. The National is giving it a twirl early next year and it's a pretty starry cast; Danny Boyle directing with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. It could be either grotesquely brilliant or an embarassing fuck-up. I've hedged my bets by buying tickets for a night well into the run because if it's a dog's breakfast I can get a refund.
