Aaargh! > I texted them because I don't want a conversation. > If I'd wanted a conversation, I'd have bloody > phoned them! Guilty. I do that. I know it's wrong. But if I'm on the go and I need to text then I need to find my glasses in my handbag and faff around with my phone and it'll just take a nano-second to phone and relay the same information. So I'll concede that it's rude to reply to a text with a call; but I'm guilty as charged. Shoot me. If you texted me "how are you" though I probably wouldn't call you any time soon.
  2. Not so bad MM. How's yourself? Px Edited for fat fingers

I would be surprised if the Ford Escort manual hadn't been snapped up straight away *Bob*. It was a snip at a mere ?10. Even us piss-taking forumites wouldn't be able to resist a bargain like that.
  4. Sorry Katie Numbers - I couldn't help myself. I have bad fingers tonight. OK now I changed the name of the thread because I really want to know how people feel about receiving / sending texts that just say "how are you"
  5. Yes I agree. I think texting "how are you" is lazy and disingenuous. Although that's how I see things, am I wrong to see it like that? I'm not trying to have a rant about what I see as bad manners, I'm asking whether I'm wrong to see it that way. Is the world changing and I'm standing still? Am I a modern day King Canute, trying to fight off the inevitable? After all, it would be churlish to be nasty and grumpy to people who are genuine.
  6. Thanks Twirly. It's more the "how are you" types that don't sit right with me. Doesn't seem like a genuine approach. Any thoughts on that at all?
  7. So it's really just me then? Seriously? I'm really depressed now. What's a bobbin anyway for goodness sake?
  8. It isn't an Americanism. I think you'll find that that's Jewish humour that you're having a pop at there Voyageur.
  9. There I've said it. I hate texting. It has its place of course. Like sometimes you might have an arrangement to make and it can be easier, especially if there are lots of people involved. But if you need to go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth then........ PICK UP THE PHONE! I just had a text that said "how are you". I deleted it. I just didn't feel the love. Is it just me? Px Edited to remove the word "already" for those who no likey
  10. What a thoroughly unpleasant person you obviously are. Your entire contribution to the EDF is on the for sale section. NEWSFLASH - the forum does not exist to enable you to de-junk. If you don't like the forum, or us, why not simply take your unwanted tat and pay for a pitch at a car-boot sale instead?
  11. Well done. My house has been insulated to within an inch of its life and powers itself (very efficiently) off solar energy panels. Not sure about any of the technical specifications. The house is very warm and I don't get big energy bills. Nice.
  12. I'm back to bang on about Mark Rylance some more. Richard III and Twelfth Night (with the wonderful Stephen Fry as Malvolio) are in rep this winter for a short run after opening at Shakespeare's Globe this Summer. Twelfth Night is already completely sold out for its run at the Globe. Tickets have gone on sale today for the winter run at the Apollo Shaftesbury Avenue. This is the same theatre where Mark Rylance wowed in Jerusalem last year. I know it seems like a long way off but I promise you, Rylance's Richard III will be a major performance and it will be a hard-to-get ticket once the reviews are in. Here's a link to buy today. You can also buy directly from the theatre. http://www.nimaxtheatres.com/ If you want to check the quality of the seats you're buying then use theatremonkey. http://www.theatremonkey.co.uk/
  13. Sue Wrote: > Eh? No my gigs are not "more expensive"! > They are ?11/7 advance, ?12/8 on the door. > How is that more expensive than ?15? > Somebody help me out here, am I being very thick? > > How do you define "cheap"?? > > ETA: Defintion of Cheap Actually Sue, your gigs are more expensive than the Hockney gig for those on low incomes. The Royal Academy has a range of entrance fees. ?15 is full price but, for example, ?6.50 (income support & jobseekers allowance); ?10.50 (student); ?5 (aged 12 to 18); and so on. My maths isn't the best but that looks like over 50% discount for those on income support, which compares well to your 33%. For those who can afford ?15 then I think it's cheap at the price but for those who can't then there are other options.
  14. This happened to me 20 years ago when I lived on Melbourne Grove and someone broke into next door's shed and stole something which they then used to pull my handbag from a kitchen counter and through the cat-flap. Spent 20 minutes looking for my handbag the following day before I figured it out.
  15. Go have lunch at Harvard followed by a nice long walk (looking effortlessly gorgeous like Ali MacGraw in Love Story).
  16. If I only went to things that Brian Sewell liked then I wouldn't get out of the house much.
  17. Hello Katie numbers. Nice to see you joyous. px
  18. To me David Hockney is a truly inspirational artist and after my first Hockney exhibition (many many moons ago) the way I saw landscapes was changed forever. I suddenly remembered at the weekend that I hadn't yet got my tickets for the Hockney Royal Academy exhibition. To my horror, when I went to book I found that almost every date and time slot was sold out. I managed to get tickets for Easter weekend but only just. If, like me, you'd been meaning to book but hadn't quite got around to it, then can I urge you to click on this link and book whatever you can get. Don't let it be the one that got away. http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/hockney/
  19. I don't attach any importance to being cool Betterat50m but each to their own. However, if you're going to have a pop at me for how I choose to express myself then may I suggest that you check your spelling and your grammar first off.
  20. It's Sunday evening and I suppose I should be feeling mellow but I'm not. This sort of posting really takes the piss. You can't be bothered to even look at the forum and attempt to locate the for sale section so you just put it on the main page - in capital letters if you please - like to whole raison d'etre of the EDF is for you to de-junk.
  21. Well done; I think a crossing by the Co-op is long overdue and in a few weeks we'll wonder how we managed without it. Mr Barber, might I suggest you install a couple of speed cameras in Barry Road. It attracts so many racers, who obviously feel that it's their God-given right and everyone should get out of their way. I think you?ll find speed cameras most lucrative on that road.
  22. Mark Rylance is my personal God of acting of all time. He's bringing a Rick III to Shakespeare's Globe this summer and I believe it must be seen. He's also reprising his Lady Olivia in the all male Twelfth Night which I'm seeing (for him) but I'm not fond of the play at all. I was given a royal telling off yesterday for not having warned the world about these plays as apparently Twelfth Night sold out yesterday on the back of the Stephen Fry announcement. The website shows it as completely sold out but apparently if you ring up they might be able to sort you out with something. https://tickets.shakespearesglobe.com/selecteics.asp Unrestricted view seats in the middle gallery is the way to go if you can manage it. I would also recommend Abigail's Party for a bit of light relief (cheesy pineappley one anyone?) at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Easy journey home afterwards. https://www.menierchocolatefactory.com/Online/default.asp I worship at the shrine of Punchdrunk and if you're hungry for them (and I am) then go see their Dr Who collaboration in Ipswich (yes I know, I know) after dark this summer: http://www.wolseytheatre.co.uk/2012crash They keep saying that there will be a London show soon though.
  23. Busted - thanks Katie numbers. I have none of the facts but I'm also behind the bear.
  24. Personally I love the review of for the German Regular Nazi Party 1920-1945 5'x3' Flag, which made me spit my coffee "With one eye on the forthcoming European Championships, I logged onto Amazon with the intention of buying one of those England flags that you fly from a vehicle window. However after stumbling upon this jazzy number I felt compelled to purchase one. Imagine my disappointment when it arrived and I realised that it was simply too large to flutter from a window but, being one to turn misfortune to my advantage, I realised that I could fasten it to the side of my transit van no problem. It fit like a glove! After buying another flag for the other side, my old van looked the proverbial bee's knees. Given I intended to travel to Poland for the Championships in my trusty vehicle, I thought it best to take a test drive to make sure the flags worked properly. Sure enough, after driving round Northern France on a booze trip, the flags worked a treat! You wouldn't believe the number of heads my old van turned and odd continental waves I got. I can certainly recommend the German Regular Nazi Party 1920-1945 flag, it pimps a van like nothing else and I can't wait to storm into Poland in it in July to see our boys take on the opposition!" http://www.amazon.co.uk/German-Regular-Nazi-Party-1920-1945/dp/B004NDDF0C/ref=pd_sim_sbs_kh_3
  25. OMG some bloody American having a pop at Withnail & I. Whatever happened to "the special relationship". What absolute twaddle.
