  1. Thanks for the advice. Razors - you do not know me. Don't put labels on me. That is inappropriate. I am not a victim; nor have I ever been.
  2. Yes quite right Father Jack - I also had that experience with a delivery that didn't have enough postage. When I saw who it was from I declined receipt. Yes I will go along to the PO and ask to see it. Ianr, you are correct that I lived here and registered pre 2001 so it is probably some marketing tatt from somewhere. I'm just thrown that it's a Parcelforce delivery. Also because I've been using my real name ont the electoral register for some years now. It's strange but curiosity has got the better of me. I'll post when I've collected. Thanks for your input.
  3. Only ever used this name for the elctoral reigster. The name consists of my second name and my mother's maiden name. I don't think the PO will give me the package because they normally ask for ID, but the package will have a return address on it, so I'm tempted to go along and ask to see the return address.
  4. At the time I moved into my present house (11 years ago) I had a stalker. This person was convicted and was entirely bonkers, but that's another story. I didn't want to advertise my wherabouts via the electoral register, so I used a completely false name to register with. This isn't breaking any laws. A couple of years ago I reverted to using my own name as so much time has passed. Yesterday when I arrived home, I found a missed delivery card from Parcelforce to let me know that there is a package at the post office that needs my signature. It's addressed to the person I made up to put on the electoral register. She doesn't exist. She's only ever existed on one piece of paper. Now someone's sent her a package. That's a bit odd. Not even sure I should go and pick it up. I'm sure they'll ask for ID and, obviously, there isn't any. It's creeping me out a little.
  5. I'm at home with a graveyard cough but I have tickets for The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar tomorrow evening. I think I will be the most unpopular audience member if I go along, but I want to see it!
  6. Hello Terry. I've just started your book. I really want a Peppermint Yoyo. Got any?
  7. I don't think arriving early will make any difference at all as your seat is pre-allocated. Security is extremely tight. They will probably ask you to bring photo ID on the day so that they can ensure that the person using the ticket is the person who won it in the ballot. You should take this ID check very seriously. Security at Wimbledon is run by the armed forces/police force so security checks are not just a cursory glance. Once you've made it inside then you will have a wonderful time (weather permitting). It's a friendly atmosphere and the staff are polite and helpful. The stewards are mostly armed forced / police / fire brigade who use their annual leave to police Wimbledon. They can't do enough for you if you ask for help with anything. Take your own picnic as it's lovely to have a picnic on the hill. The food at Wimbledon is over-priced anyway. Pimms is extortionate too. They will let you take your own alcohol into the grounds but not your own bottled water (because of the Evian sponsorship). It's a great day out so lucky you.
  8. Abigail's Party at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Good stuff. Cheesey Pineappley one anybody?
  9. Yes I think it's definitey worth giving it a go.
  10. I appreciate the sentiment, I really do, but the first few posts on this thread are trivial and do not set the tone for a thread where victims are invited to talk about crime. I don't like seeing thread after thread about crime any more than I liked the yellow boards. I was glad to see the back of the yellow boards. The recent threads about muggings have been nasty. I can't see those women clicking on this thread, seeing reminisces about Kings on the Rye, drug shootings and strippers, and feeling that this is an appropriate or sympathetic place to post. There is nothing funny and nothing trivial about crime. Nothing. I'm not suggesting for a second that you don't know that - merely that the tone is misjudged. I don't think it is wrong to start a thread but I'm afraid I don't like the way this one has gone already.
  11. I think it should be a given that customers who need to fill out forms should stand aside to do it. I use the PO a lot and I arrive with my envelopes ready to be scanned. I literally only take seconds at the counter. If you need to fill out a form, borrow a pen, finish selotaping your package, or anything else that does not require staff input, then stand aside and let someone else be served. It's soul destroying to watch staff staring into space whilst waiting for customers to get ready to be served. Don't get me started on people who are on their phones at the counter; that's rude to the staff serving them and to the people waiting. The staff at Lordship Lane are good people doing their best. It's not their place to say "oh it's busy today I won't take a break". That's the thin end of the wedge. They have to eat and they have errands to run, just like everyone else.

  13. "Men at Work". How often is that just wishful thinking?

    Range Cookers

I have a huge Rangemaster with all sorts of fancy ovens and shiny gas things and a big extractor thing on top that lights up like a mothership. I don't cook. It's a really stunning shade of blue though and really makes the kitchen.
  15. Hello Martin and welcome. Are you Hungarian?
  16. Quidco is brilliant. There is always going to be a gripe (sorry, did I mention BA?), but effectively, it is free money and you'd be a fool not to. It has been promoted by the Martin Lewis website for many years and that's a big recommendation to have. Other than the annual ?5 I don't know how they make their money but I wouldn't be surprised if they take a percentage from etailers.

  18. Excellent. Will there be "Olympic family VIP lanes" in operation on the day?
  19. I've also heard good things about Top Cashback, but I haven't signed up with them yet. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/quidco
  20. They keep ?5 worth of your earnings in any 12 month period but there is no sign up fee. They keep the site free of advertising, which is nice, so there is no revenue there for them. I think they may keep some percentage of cash back, but I don't know. Most of the criticism will come from money not being paid. Some businesses are really bad at paying and Quidco won't pass on monies that they haven't received, so people get cross and complain. Me, I'm selective about which battles I will fight, and arguing with etailers via Quidco is not the battle for me. I learn fast about who pays up and who doesn't, and I move on. Last week I booked 2 nights in a Paris hotel direct with the hotel's website. Total was just shy of Eur 500. The booking didn't track on Quidco so I cancelled it, booked the same room with Expedia, and I'll get my 8% back soon because Expedia is a fast payer. BA is wretched. Even when they do pay (and they don't always) it takes a year. Virgin is excellent.
  21. ?1,995.13 worth of free money actually paid to date + another ?170.38 in the pipeline Not one single penny spent which would not otherwise have been spent Typical payments include ?142.50 for switching internet providers last month ?13 to ?20 per month, every month, on Eurostar alone 40% of my sellers' fees on ebay come to me because if I am shopping on ebay I do it though Quidco - 40% mounts up Huge amounts on hotel bills. If the hotel doesn't offer discount directly via Quidco then I will put the hotel booking through Expedia and that gives me a typical 8% cashback on hotels. Some partners are very bad at paying - I have a lot outsanding from BA from several on-line transactions going back nearly a year. BA does not like to pay up. Conversely, Eurostar transactions track immediately and pay quickly. I am not interesed in Nectar points or other reward schemes; I like cash. This is a considerable amount of cash for flights that I would have taken anyway and hotels that I would have stayed in anyway. Effort is minimal; it's an extra couple of clicks per transaction and it becomes second nature. It doesn't preclude me shopping around for the best deal, this is just extra discount on top.
  22. Yes I love TripAdvisor too and always check out what they have to say. But I only book once I've accessed the website through the Quidco website. Quidco is basically free money and it makes sense to use them as often as possible.
  23. Hi Mia - I would beware of ALL comparison sites. They make their money on commission when you click through and book from their site. It is therefore in their best interests to only offer you products that give them commission. By all means use them as a research site if you must, but then I recommend you do your own online footwork to get the best price. Also, think about going through Quidco to ensure that any click-through commission goes into your pocket.
  24. The staff in LL PO are lovely and I'm not at all surprised they did the decent thing. Nice story though.
  25. OK my mistake, sorry. I urgently need a cup of coffee! Do your very best though Reggie. Charities being, let's say, less than transparent, with money need a kick.
