No money was spent on soundproofing in those conversions. Shocking really. All done on the cheap. I doubt that your neighbour is that heavy footed and I seriously doubt that she feels she is entitled to wake you. Does she know? Have you discussed it with her? Maybe you should try knocking on her door at 5.30 and explaining that she wakes you every morning. If she doesn't already have carpet down then ask her if she would do so - it's the only practical solution I can think of. Can she work in another room that isn't directly above where you're trying to sleep? I don't see why you should give up your parties. We are all entitled to live a little. Maybe explain that the lack of soundproofing that causes her problems when you play music works both ways, and that you're woken every morning way before the time you would normally get up. East Dulwich is full of houses with non-existent sound proofing. So many neighbours fall out. It sucks.

Commisserations - this can make life very difficult. Don't get into playing childish games with your neighbours. That's rotten advice. If they catch you at it then the situation could escalate and you may unintentionally make matters worse. Behave like an adult and hopefully they will do the same. Go and have a word with them. Be reasonable and be polite. Ask if they are aware that noise from their property is carrying down the street. They're young so maybe they're just being thoughtless and need to be told. Southwark has an excellent team that deals with noise polution so if you can't resolve the matter yourself then phone them for advice.

Glad you're back. Felt very strange not being able to log on. Hurah. Let's party.

is it illegal to save parking spaces?

Doesn't even need to be "confrontation" Klikker. I love my neighbours. Sure they like the odd party and they have their cars and their kids but they're really good people. I daresay that sometimes I'm an annoying neighbour for whatever reason. We don't sweat the small stuff and we never have. It's a very chilled out corner of our street. In the last year I've had skips outside my house constantly, and major deliveries to the house (bricks, steels etc.). Nobody parked outside my house in all that time - they wanted my builders to have the best and most convenient access to my property. Without being asked - everyone was really considerate. I didn't need to put bins out. Now the skips are gone and the cars are back. Not an issue (and never has been). -
I accidentally dropped a ?20 note on Crystal Palace Road. I mean, if you're going to litter then you might as well be posh.

I have a friend who was a 40 a day man who gave up using an electronic cigarette. I have another friend who failed though. It's worth a try. I don't know how anyone can afford cigarettes these days.

I think it's nice when an OP comes back with thanks/feedback but if they don't then I don't view that in a negative light. I don't perceive it as rudeness. It just is what it is. -

No, you have absolutely no right whatsoever to park close to your house. None. "Worst of all I have kids". What does that mean. Are you saying that you somehow have some sort of priority for parking? Are your kids disabled? Don't they walk? Having kids was your lifestyle choice (I preseume) and I don't see how it is relevant. When your kids grow up they might buy cars. This would make you a multi-car house. Will you then be one of the selfish people? I'm not following your arguments and frankly Sweetgirl you don't sound that sweet to be plonking a bin outside your house to reserve "your" space. -
Should the ED forum be just for people who live in East Dulwich?

We shouldn't be falling out at a time like this. We need to stand together united so that we can save Iceland. I'm having "Hands Off Our Iceland" T-shirts made for the Barry Road runners. Who's with me? -

Move the bins. I'd be understanding if they were expecting a big/heavy delivery and wanted to ensure good access to their house; but doing it everyday is just pathetic. -
Simon - don't feed the troll. Honestly he's not worth even 5 minutes of your time.

I quite like a bit of Peter Gabriel if I'm in the right mood. Can he come off the hit list?

I think this is a good scheme. If you've been thinking about consulting with an architect on work you're planning then perhaps take a closer look at it. "Register for Architect in the House 2012 If you?re planning some home improvements this summer, our Architect in the House scheme can help. We?ll provide you with expert advice from an RIBA chartered architect ? and you can help to improve the lives of families in housing need at the same time. Join the scheme today, and you?ll also be in with a chance of winning great prizes for your home! Register today http://www.architectinthehouse.org.uk/?appeal=20120509-CO-01&consid=10694140&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Shelter&utm_campaign=1310406_4577+-+AITH+2012+-+Solus+Email&dm_i=57U,S346,3BQWAF,2A2HO,1 Run in partnership with Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Architect in the House matches homeowners with an RIBA chartered architect who has given their time for a free consultation - and the opportunity to support Shelter with a suggested donation of ?40. Should the ED forum be just for people who live in East Dulwich?

Charlotte - I think the general consensus is that the forum is for everyone. I do live in ED but my horizons are bigger and, thanks to the forum, I've made friends with other forumites in and out of the SE22 postcode. If you're buying and selling and travel is in issue for you then it's best to say that upfront. -

You need to get over yourself. Why exclude people for goodness sake? Terrible idea. Keep the doors open and you'll meet people from all walks of life (and Nunhead). -
Sorry I got my days muddled up - that always happens to me in a bank holiday week. So, to be clear, members' booking opened yesterday (Tuesday) and public booking opens tomorrow (Thursday). Both Liz Fraser nights are well sold already just to members, but there are tickets still available. So you can go online now and buy a membership and get tickets, or you can wait until public booking tomorrow and buy without paying the extra ?45 for membership. Who knows what will happen tomorrow ? they might have held good seats back for the public on-sale, they might add another date(s), Ticketmaster or Seetickets might get an allocation. The only guarantee tomorrow is that the remaining tickets for the two dates (6th and 7th August) are going to sell out in a matter of minutes. If you decide to go online now I think (but I?m not certain) that you can view the seats online once you?ve put a membership package in your shopping basket. The front stalls have gone (but they may have held some back for tomorrow). There are seats in side stalls, rear stalls and terrace available. The side stalls are the best option. You can always phone them ? the box office staff are very helpful.
