  2. Gimme Shelter - love it
  3. It's such crap to suggest that a rotten attitude is just part of the experience. F*** that. I' like a good attitude and have been known to ask for the service charge to be removed from the bill before now. And I'm a good tipper - I always appreciate good service and always pay for it. Where exactly is Au Ciel?
  4. Sorry to sound mean but I would never be able to stop laughing if I saw someone fall down a trapdoor. It's very "Fools and Horses".
  5. Today I'm reading American Vogue and planning all the things I would buy if only I was thin
  6. Definitely not the Frank Sinatra version then?

    Great Gigs

So, Meltdown, eeehhhh..... Grace Jones anyone? Did anyone else go to see this diva in Brixton (sometme in the 80s) when it took her so long to get on stage that half the audience had gone for the last tube by the time she made it on and the remainder bo'ed her? No Chandon no band-on - very annoying.
  15. Electronic isn't my thing really but try Claudia Brucken / Propaganda
  16. Yes Brown Sugar - I was singing along to that one WAY before I knew what it actually meant (sheltered upbringing).

You're right; it wss Cocksucker Blues that he had on vinyl; I remember him telling me the story of the Stones using it to try and get out of their recording deal. He said that they were contracted to Decca for a certain number of singles so they gave Decca something that they couldn't release by way of a parting gift. It was all a long time ago.
  18. I made it to Athens, via Terminal 5, more or less un-scarred. We got stuck in 2 separate lifts at Terminal 5. It's a long way from the terminal to the gates (15-20 minutes) and the signage could be A LOT better. I did carry on only as I really couldn't face having my luggage lost, but I still made room for my laptop (obviously).
  19. Many years ago I had a boyfriend who was a massive Stones fans and actually had Star Star on vinyl (very rare). He also had C***sucker Blues on vinyl and I remember being quite shocked by that at the time. The lyric has always stayed with me: Oh where can I get my cock sucked? Where can I get my ass f**ked? I may have no money, but I know where to put it every time I never forgot that one. As I schoolgirl I remember being very shocked by Honky Tonk Woman. Bear in mind that I went to a very nice school for young ladies and I lived a very sheltered life. To this day HT Woman is one of my favourite Stones tracks. Also, slightly off topic, I was always a little confused by Beast of Burden because I thought the line was Yeah, all your sickness I can fu** a duck I swear to God, I always thought that was the lyric. Until along came Google and everything became clear Yeah, all your sickness I can suck it up Throw it all at me I can shrug it off I haven't yet seen to SHINE A LIGHT but I'm very keen to see it - especially at the IMAX.

    Great Gigs

This year's MELTDOWN lineup is being announced tomorrow (Sunday) in The Observer. Tickets on-sale next Thursday (for members) or otherwise Friday. Meltdown always has a couple of amazing gigs (as well as some pretty obscure ones) so do check it out. It is so easy to get home to ED from the South Bank. Massive Attack are curating this year so expect the likes of Portishead/Tricky.
  22. I'm re-reading A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY - John Irving - great book

    Great Gigs

Sounds like a good gig. Don't think Brixton was necessarily the best venue for Elbow. Can't really argue with the 10 minutes journey home - there's a lot to be said for that. This year's Somerset House gigs will go on sale soon (maybe this week or next?). They normally throw up some corkers. And the 176 bus stop is just outside the gates. Also, the long-awaited Meltdown programme should be out some time this month (again, on the 176 route). I'll post here as soon as I know more.
  24. Most vintage shops smell of mothballs and goodness knows what else. Embalming fluid? Who knows? Don't get me wrong; I'll definitely be there on opening day to sniff it out (so to speak). I'm just saying that in the past I've been really disappointed.
