  1. More on the METALLICA gig next month: It's at O2 on 15th September. Apparently the reason that they're knocking the tickets out for just ?5 each is that the gig is a thank you to fans. I'm rather touched by this because the likes of the Stones and U2 just want to squeeze every last ??? from their fans. Anyway, if you want to go to this then you should go to www.metallica.com and sign up pretty quick. They are likely to close the door on people signing up just to get tickets so don't hang about. These tickets won't go on general sale.
  2. The Bewley Brothers - David Bowie

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Stir It Up Oooooohhhhhh you got to see Bob Marley. Impressed. Someone invited me to go see him at the Rainbow (I think?) and I turned them down. I thought I would catch him next time he rolled into town. Then he died. Rude, don?t you think? He?s not the only one with bad manners though: Ray Charles ? had front row seats at Hammersmith Apollo ? died ? got refunded ? RUDE Nina Simone ? had row 6 seats at the Albert Hall ? died ? got refunded ? RUDE The above two came quite close together so I saw a pattern forming and got a little freaked; stopped buying tickets for a while (it was only fair really).

The only thing worse than listening to "Dancing In the Streets" is watching the video. * double shudder *

  11. Just a reminder to everyone that the OASIS tour goes on sale tomorrow (Weds 20th August). Two nights at Wembley. http://www.oasisinet.com/Forthcoming.aspx Strange that there's no Manchester gig on the list but I'm sure they'll get round to adding one some time. PRODIGY is playing Brixton and that goes on sale on Thursday. DUFFY also playing Brixton but avoid that one - it's a terrible venue for her. METALLICA playing London (O2 I think) next month and that will go on sale this week but I'm not sure exactly when. I'm told that the tickets will only cost ?5 each. I was about 14 the last time I paid ?5 to get into a gig.
  12. My Generation - The Who

  15. I use buses all the time and sometimes I really fear for my life. Some of the drivers behave like they're playing on the Playstation. It's scary.
  16. I remember the white lady well. I also remember the pint pincher from the Phoenix. I have a common name and in the 90s I found myself accidentally sectioned thanks to a screw up between the Maudsley and Melbourne Grove Group Practice. It was a bugger to sort out and it meant that every time I saw my doctor I had to have a dreary conversation about whether I was on/off my meds. In the end the section only came of my records when the other lady died - sad.

    a joke

Brilliant - I'm laughing out loud. I especially like the sane looking person on the front row who doesn't move a muscle. Probably got dragged along by someone and is just sitting there thinking WTF? Try this; it's annoyed me and now I would like it to annoy you. You're welcome. Don't mention it. http://users.skynet.be/bk258512/idiot_test.swf

  23. Here is some impressive theatre that?s left it?s mark on me. It?s not a top 10 list though! Those top 10 fu*kers are finite! Macbeth at the Liverpool Everyman that I went to see when I was sitting English O?Level (70s). Probably didn?t win any awards but it?s the reason I still go to the theatre today. Never underestimate the importance of taking young people to the theatre. Rocky Horror Show on the Kings Road in the late 70s (the theatre is now a multiplex cinema). I had just moved to London and was living in Chelsea with family and I was such a well brought up young girl and this just seemed so very BAD. Anything at the Royal Court in the late 70s; I lived within walking distance; had no friends whatsoever; and pretty much used to go there to avoid spending the evenings alone. The Oresteia at the NT (1981) ? 9 hours of Greek Tragedy ? fabulous. Tantalous at the RSC (2001) ? another 12 hours of the Greeks messing things up. (I do like my Greek epics, which are basically Eastenders for the ancients). Hamlet with Daniel Day-Lewis at the NT (late 80s). He doesn?t do theatre any more so I feel really fortunate to have seen him. My friend took me to the green room afterwards and we passed him in the corridor and he was soooooo hot. Accidental Death of an Anarchist ? I?ve seen a few versions of this Dario Fo play and if I had to pick one I would go with the Rhys Ifans at the Donmar. Very very funny. Pravda at the NT with Anthony Hopkins ? already drooled about on this thread (deservedly so). Othello earlier this year at the Donmar ? Chiwetel Ejiofor gave the best theatrical performance that I personally have ever seen. Guys and Dolls ? NT early 80s. I?m not into musicals but I went to see this one about 5 times and when I?m drunk I still put the CD on and sing along. Here come the dames Diana Rigg ? Mother Courage and Her Children ? NT Helen Miren ? an Arthur Miller play at the Young Vic in the late 80s (she was sex on legs) and in Mourning Becomes Electra at the NT (two decades later and still sex on legs ? damn how does she do that?). Judi Dench and Maggie Smith in the so so David Hare play a few years back ? the theatrical equivalent of Alexis and Krystle (all big-hair and shoulder pads) getting all bitch-slappy-happy in that lily pond. A Streetcar Named Desire with Glen Close at the NT. She mesmerised. I cried. I have lots more but I might get fired if I don?t get down to some work. Oh and I?m going to see Piaf at the Donmar next month and it?s burning a hole in my diary.
