  1. Thank you for all your tips. Have already got the uv protection swimsuit - can't wait to put it on her it's so cute! And am also thinking of picking up some sunglasses for the glare in the water but maybe am just being completely paranoid! I was worried that she might fuss or get too hot in the shade a babe but I think I'll give it a go as she's going to spend a lot of time in hot contries. An sunbob thanks for the tip on mosquito nets. Have ordered one for the cot - didn't think of buggy!
  2. Thanks Fuschia. We're off to Egypt too. going to look on google but do you remember where you bought the buggy tent by any chance?
  3. We are going on holiday next week with our 4 month old. Are the UV parasols any good? what about the tents or is she too small? any good brands? Any tips gratefully received. Thanks
  4. Also agree you should push for a. You've probably thought of this but in worse case scenario c maybe you could go back part time to start off and/or use your accrued holiday leave so you get to spend time more time with the littl'un - maybe even work from home ion part so you don't waste time commuting
  5. I am need childcare starting in September, looking for a nursery near Peckham Rye for a baby of 10 months. Any tips on what I should look out for? I have an idea e.g. security, activities, food but I am sure I am not covering all aspects. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks
  6. i use the saline drops combined with a nasal aspiration tube kind of thing which i bought in boots but you can find more widely and electric ones also exists. baby doesn't enjoy it but it really helps.
  7. it's a play group for kids under 3. two lovely ladies look after it - there are activities and snacks and the mums help out. jas and jean who run also provide mothers with advice on a whole range of topics and show mums who to play with their kids etc. i've only been once but it's a nice setting and it feels like a great place to get much needed support. i can't remember the application form referring to any criteria...
  8. glad you asked Ko - am in the same boat. i think i saw a previous thread where mums recommended taking the necklace off at sleep times but maybe someone has another tip? i am also concerned about fakes. any recommendation for a reputable seller would be great.
  9. Oh noooo! i haven't been yet but was intending to - dp they really expect people with young children to commit to 10 weeks attendance? it seems rather ridiculous. Can we try lobbying more or is it pointless?
  10. hi i flew on my own with my 4 week old and i was really nervous about it but it was a lot easier than i thought it would be. airlines don't allow babies under 14 days old. you'll probably need a bcg jab. you can check with your gp. my ba flight went fine - they were helpful enough. my flight wasn't long haul and i was only allowed to sit next to a window for security reasons. you'll find that passengers will offer to help and if they dont then just ask the crew. i second the tip on separate bags: i found that rummaging through everything whilst holding the baby was the hardest part.
  11. Hi Clare My baby would feed for an 1hr30 at a time every 1hr30. I really worried that I wasn't giving her enough milk o I started expressing and giving her bottles despite all the advice to the contrary - I think she was a week or 10 days old. no nipple confusion but maybe i was just lucky. It was really hard work but i found it reassuring to know that she was getting 2 or 3 decent feeds a day. What also helped was giving up on getting things done and forgetting about the phone and internet most of the time. Things settle by the time she was 6 or 7 weeks.
  12. I also had problems with DMC. Had a friend not explained that there is only a small window in which to do the scan I would have missed out on the opportunity to have my nuchal. If you have time, you should complain. It seems to happen too often.
  13. hello starbee there is indeed a group on monday mornings at st john's community centre. i'm also a new mum and getting very confused with all the different activities on offer. you can find a list of free activities on southwark website. theres also quite a lot on offer at soup dragon.
  14. i think the plan was to introduce this but the government then changed plans and introduced the health in pregnancy grant instead.
  15. thanks fot the tips. will definitely try them out
16. I will be needing a childminder when i go back to work - likely to be some time in August. My daughter will be 9 months old. Any suggestions, tips, sharing options? somewhere close to peckham rye station would be good but ED equally an option. thanks
  17. I know there are several posts about this already but i am totally confused.n I live in the bellenden area and am looking for activities to entertain my 10 week old baby (and meet other parents#) - any suggestions please? also keen on tips on exercise classes. thanks n
  18. hi susudio i had 1/37 chance and opted for cvs. i did some research before deciding what to do - happy to share it with you - have pm'd you my number (small baby so not much time to write!) i also spoke to a charity specialising in ante natal testing: they were fab http://www.arc-uk.org there's a consultant at kings who is supposed to be very good - greek name - he developed the screening. i was a t tommys and the consultant there was great. the idea of the cvs was a lot scarier than having it done - it's over in seconds and to me less uncomfortable than a smear.
