  1. Little article on news today about possible lido. It seems as if it might be a fresh water pool using filtered water from the river Peck - design seems to be done by team who have designed the Thames pool.
  2. My kids (and I) had/have lessons at JASSPA - James Allen's Saturday school. Loads of teachers (so if one doesn't suit another might). The thing I've really enjoyed is that they organise concerts through the year - small informal ones for beginners and larger scale ones for more confident performers.
  3. Hi - the website's back up now. I work there and (unsurprisingly) think it's great and recommend you come and visit us to get a feel for the school. My nephew is at Lyndhurst and he loves it there so I hope you'll be happy with whichever you choose. Feel free to PM me if you like (I'll try to be factual and not biased!)
  4. I love Phlegm's work - just wish he'd change his name.
  5. It isn't the clearest article I've ever read, but I don't know why you suggest he was drunk. It certainly is an important issue for those of us with offspring heading off to university this year. We thought, like many of our friends, that the loan was interest free, but it is indeed charged at 3% or so above the current interest rate and the interest starts mounting up from the day it is borrowed, not, as previously, when the degree is completed. This does indeed mean that some graduates will be paying off their loan for 30 years until the cut-off point, or they will be trying to avoid earning enough to pay it back - not great for encouraging young people to aspire to achieve their full potential.
  6. We're delighted too. Congratulations to teachers and pupils at TCS. Minder - I think I can work out who you are from your post. Well done to your graduate son and best wishes to your daughter for the future. Hope all's well with your dad.

    Thank you

A huge thank you to the lady who found my daughter's clarinet which she had left in the street while meeting her friends on the way to school (not a mistake she'll repeat I think!) This kind lady not only found the clarinet but delivered it to our door. Many many thanks.
  8. Charter:100% of pupils achieved at least 5A*/C grades with 72% including English and maths
  9. anyone found any of Ben Wilson's contributions to the Baroque the Streets part of Dulwich Festival?
  10. Hi, We've been for the last 3 years with our children now aged 13 and 16 but went with friends with much younger children and we all loved it. Loads for children to do; as well as the music and theatre, dance, cabaret and comedy as well. Last year was incredibly wet but they did their best to lessen the mud by putting down loads of wood chip - but be prepared for it! Toilets in the family area perfectly respectable too, by and large. If you've been to Glastonbury you'll think it's tiny, but if, like us, it's the first festival you've been to, it will seem enormous (and phone coverage not great). Only problem we've had is that I've had to join the family after Friday work and in order to get into the family area I've had to contact a family member at the gate and get them to come and vouch for me which took literally a couple of hours.
  11. If you're looking for a State primary school then Lyndhurst has a specialist Dyslexia unit. However, as it is quite a small school you'd have to live very close to get a place...
  12. Please do contact the school. My children are at the school and I feel staff there wouldn't be happy about the going from door to door. Nunhead seems a long way from the school's catchment area too...
  13. I do agree with Townley Green and Fuschia. Of course a school shouldn't be judged on a year's results - we all know intakes vary. However, I do think it says something about a school if they try to hide their results.
  14. Do Kingsdale think they are the only school that has been affected by the English GCSE results? Other schools are disappointed too and I'm sure papers have been sent back from many schools for re-marking but at least they're publishing their results anyway. With year 6 parents currently trying to choose schools for next year it seems unfair to withhold this information from them.
  15. Quite right. If our small guitar no good have another idea too. Will speak to R tomorrow.
