The Little Bird is on The Wing, But That's Absoid, the wing is on the Little Bird
  2. Could well be dbboy. Anyone remember the wool/haberdashers shop called "Heathers" near the Post Office, also J.J Charlesworth the shoe repairers near the FHT as was ? I always had my shoes mended there, a real craftsman, however one of the pair would be in the shop and he would usually find the other out the back. He also had glass shelves suspended on wires from the ceiling, with all manner of products on them, I particularly remember a stock of light bulbs on one of the shelves. Unwins was managed by Gerry and Toni (Antoinette) Lavelle, good friends of ours, they continued to work for Unwins and managed a shop in Hove, we are still in contact with them and are both now retired.
  3. Johnathans was originally owned by Fred Odhams in the early seventies, the greengrocers was run by Ron Gorton, he always called customers Sir or Madam, obviously depending on gender. The shop which is now the dry cleaners was an "Unwins" Off Licence. John Osgood, who originally ran the other sweet shop before the Indian family bought it was a mad keen Crystal Palace supporter.I believe the "Mothers Inc" shop was originally an "Express Dairy".
  4. Our phone line (Talk Talk) also affected, line permanently engaged for incoming calls, we can make some outgoing calls, but other calls we make give us an engaged signal, however when we make the same call via our mobile phones connection is made. Talk mobile seems to have similar problems.
  5. Alex is great have used him for dishwasher and washing machine, sorted both of them, different occasions I add, extremely reasonable charges and a very pleasant guy.
  6. A big thank you to the couple who helped me up and dusted me down when I tripped over on the controlled crossing on Denmark Hill outside King's College Hospital, on Wednesday 15/01/14 at about 5pm.I do not know whether you will ever see this message but hope you do.
  7. A very "Merry Christmas" and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous "New Year" to all.
  8. Phone UK Power Net 0800 783 8838.They will update you regarding supply and text you when further information is available. Good Luck and Merry Christmas.
  9. Did you hear about the Dyslexics who wrote Christmas Gift requests to SATAN ?
  10. One of the sales reps of the company I was working for was supplied with a brand new "Vauxhall Cavalier" on the day of the storm. He lived in a tree lined road and was very concerned a tree may fall on his beloved new car. He decided to drive about half a mile down the road and parked his car in the very centre of Tesco's car park, well away from surrounding trees. He returned to the car park early in the morning to collect the car, totally un-damaged by trees, however completely buried under the roof of the Tesco store.
  11. Quite an arresting building. As a B&B would they only serve porridge for breakfast ?
  12. The 1471 service is free, however if you initiate the call back number this will cost 5 pence.
  13. Also, DLR.
  14. SATURDAY AUGUST 24th.I have seen at least eight 63 buses travelling along "Therapia" Road this afternoon !!!!!!!!!
  15. Although I favour the option of the bus turning via Honor Oak Park station, with the hopeful change in the route to eventually include HOP in the route, another alternative may be for the 63 to turn right into Wood Vale, right again into Melford Road and then left on to London Road and left again into Wood Vale, returning to the bus stop by the Cemetery. Apparently weather permitting the works are expected to take three months.
  16. Louisa, I entirely concur with your comments and could not have put it better or more succinctly. Hope man and dog are OK.
  17. Although you will no longer be an "ED Effer", I will miss your well thought out comments on a number of matters and although no longer an ED resident, I and I would presume others would welcome your comments on national matters that affect us all. As an aside, a personal thank you regarding buildings insurance, that I had to renew recently, on my partially under pinned home. I contacted the structural engineers in Southampton mentioned in your post regarding this problem and Mike Royall called to do the survey. I sent the report to five insurance companies and reduced my premium by over ?400.00, the approximate cost of the report. Obviously this will be repaid over the coming years many times. I am looking forward to future posts from you. My very best wishes to you and your family for a very happy and enjoyable life in Cornwall.
  18. Great stuff, I check every day for a laugh, keep them coming
  19. Wow ! What a collection "Shorty", they must be quite valuable.
  20. We have had our milk stolen a couple of times over the last few years, in Therapia Road, but have not bothered to inform police, for what seems a petty matter. We asked the milkman not to leave the milk in the porch in view, but in an out of site location, this seems to have worked. Perhaps you can do the same, behind fence or brick wall or behind dust bins. Hope this helps.
  21. Unfortunately I do not have any of theses saucy seaside cards. I seem to remember my parents had a number of these, but they passed away many years ago and the cards were lost.
  22. Hi Shorty, I check this post every day for a laugh, well done. I notice 662 views on this thread, so lot of people are checking it out. Now 685 !!!!!.
  23. Certainly not, especially, if like me you have a water meter. We had to have a new water main installed a couple of years ago and Thames Water insisted on fitting a water meter. Since then our water bills have more than doubled.

    TalkTalk

I have had "Talk Talk" phone and broadband for about five years, initially service was rather poor, but they now seem to have got their act together. Originally went for "Talk Talk" as they appeared to be the cheapest, which I believe they still are.
  25. Hi Shorty, Just seen the thread, what a laugh. Happy Birthday and many more. How is your wife getting on with the new extra long ladder you bought her for Christmas so she does not have to stretch so far when cleaning the gutters and windows, my wife love's hers, I think !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am spoiling her now, I am buying her a wheelbarrow, so that she does not have to carry the concrete she has mixed to the back of the garden to lay the foundations for the new 20 foot by 12 foot shed I am buying. Any other ideas for presents I should buy her. Hope you are having, or had a great "Birthday", depending on when you read this.
