NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and is a slightly deranged way to spend November. Is anyone else taking part? It'd be great to set up a bit of a support network in the area, we could meet up a few times in a local pub/cafe with laptops, egg each other on, stuff like that...50,000 words in 30 days might be easier with company! Full info here: http://www.nanowrimo.org And this is me: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/309313

Calling All Dog Owners
furryjumpergirl replied to furryjumpergirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hear hear! Nothing annoys me more than seeing people walk off when their dog's done its thing. You'll be pleased to know it's the minority of dog owners who act so badly and the rest of us responsible dog owning folk are just as annoyed as you about it...and yes, we do tell them to pick it up if we're in earshot. -
I've been trying to find ways of meeting local dog owners on a regular basis so my dog Benji can regularly play with the same dogs and I can make friends too. I was having a browse through Facebook groups this evening and was surprised I couldn't find one for dog owners in South London. So, I made one: http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27876889546&ref=mf Please have a look and join up if you think it's a good idea.

In my constant quest to make sure everyone in London knows how excellent East Dulwich is I've just written a post on the East Dulwich WI: http://trustedplaces.com/blog/2008/08/13/wi-not/ If anyone from the WI might be interested in being interviewed for the site, either by email or in a video interview please PM me.

Save The Spike Petition
furryjumpergirl replied to furryjumpergirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well, clearly not enough people!! -
More Peckham than East Dulwich-related, but still worth a space on here I'd say: http://trustedplaces.com/blog/2008/08/11/act-now-to-save-the-spike/ I hadn't even heard of The Spike before this, but it seems a terrible shame that it could disappear.

Local amateur restaurant critics
furryjumpergirl replied to Alan Dale's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Semi blatant plug here for one of the sites I write for, but all reviews (profession AND non-professional) very welcome at www.trustedplaces.com - there's a dearth of East Dulwich reviews at the moment and it'd be great to hear your opinions on the local cafes, bars etc. I live in ED too and would personally love to be able to read peoples' opinions on my local places... -
"Should we be surprised at how enthusiastically these ladies want to blame a woman who was followed, for being followed?" How ridiculous!! Giving tips for dealing with the situation isn't blaming the woman for being followed. It's a pretty sad fact that women have to consider this sort of thing when it's not our actions we should really have to be changing but the actions of the men following us home. However, unfortunately we live in a society where this sort of thing can and does happen.

EDF bigged up online
furryjumpergirl replied to furryjumpergirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's really weird! We don't moderate comments so I have no idea why that happened, sorry. could you try posting it again perhaps? Wordpress can be a strange beast... -
Is it worth pointing out that the woman shouldn't have shown the man where she lived? It's obviously unacceptable that someone would follow her home, but the safest thing to do would have been to stop in a shop, phone a friend to let them know what was going on and wait for the man to get bored and naff off...I only say this because a friend in Camberwell has had to do this once or twice and I thought it sounded like a good idea. The man then doesn't know where you live for the next time he fancies bothering somebody. Ringing the police as he was following her wouldn't have hurt either...who knows who he's going to follow next and what may end up happening?

swastikas (on bus ticket machines) (Lounged)
furryjumpergirl replied to RosieH's topic in The Lounge
I saw some Council guys removing the one at the end of my road and one on the bus stop round the corner early this morning - they seemed quite taken aback when I thanked them profusely! I told them there were more dotted around and they said they'd have a look. Perhaps the ones Rolo reported were in a different area? -

Yes the Council are good at this stuff - if people report it! I spoke to them at about half 3 and they said they'll be out within 4 hours to sort it out. I could only tell them about The Gardens one, if anybody else knows locations ring them on 020 7525 5777 - also a handy number if you have noisy neighbours!!
