  1. http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/education/schools/school-admission/applying-to-start-secondary-school/Documents/SecondarySchools201415.pdf Hope this works - this booklet explains by school (from page 31) how many places by band are offered and the distance for the last offer, it also shows how many applicants per banding.
  2. I'm sorry sillywoman but that doesn't make any sense (plus I hate the term "I have heard") Anyway if they are creaming the top 10% from band 9 (lowest scores) how does that mean they are taking the highest abled child?? No sense at all and definitely not sneaky
  3. From memory - a few years ago when I went through this- the Lewisham schools used year 5 results to band...once the child starts secondary the schools use CAT scores (every school does this) and they use these for progression/ setting etc. This is because a lot of primary's teach for SAT's results and drops in levels are the norm in year7 I think the bands are flexible based on each years intake/application, but I know from Lewisham data the top 2 bands in most schools are heavy (excellent primary schools in Lewisham)
  4. Calm down, I have read so much crap on here and now am sick of it its finally broken this camels back...that's all You did post incorrectly I have no need to know who you are to know that And your opinion texas means nothing as all you have done is stir and stir it all up again..i am bored by it all FACT
  5. We need facts here please don't post what you know nothing about - Habs use a banding system (as all Lewisham schools) -Charter do not This is NOT the same admissions criteria
  6. Habs currently use banding (then distance)..all Lewisham schools follow this admissions policy If anyone needs proof then go into the Lewisham councils web site and follow links to schools...its all there
  7. Enterprise they have 2 places locally, Sydenham and old kent road For a small family car its approx. ?22 per day
  8. I would like get back to the point of why we are creating a new school - My daughter went from a lovely and confident child to an absolute mess when we found out she didn't get any of her choices for secondary, nightmares began, tears at school etc. She really believed it was because she was not good enough for the schools to choose her and no matter how many times I explained it was a silly process and nothing to do with her it didn't reassure. We were given a school my daughter absolutely refused to go to. I see the same thing every year, parents with fear and stress written all over them, kids in bits....is this what we want as concerned parents/citizens? We are told to put on our applications 6 schools of our choice, but is it? How lovely if in a few years we really could choose between a single sex or mixed school. So please lets stop all the name calling, accusations and nastiness that I am reading about and focus on the kids PS. I bloody hate sherry
  9. I think with applications for new schools not yet built you apply directly to the school (details will be made public I am sure on how to do this) and also fill in your 6 choices to Southwark/Lewisham etc, so in effect you may have 2 excellent schools to choose from.
  10. Hi James, Would you mind please explaining the data? Is the bottom section applicants by school for southwark residents or all applicants? The top section lists areas and numbers - is this where the applications came from? Thanks
  11. Not in my mind...always will be peckham and I was proud to live here (before it was trendy) Went to the montpelier last sat night...thought we were in chelsea (where do the frumpies go now I wonder) and having questioned a few trendies none of which were locals...some as far as kentish town! Part of me is proud that its now popular
  12. Neighbours had an alarm....no one around them did...guess who got burgled yep the house with the alarm! (sash window was choice of entry) When they got the alarm they asked if i would be on the call list so i asked what do i have to do if it goes off...yep go inside and have a look...REALLY!!! I said no but one day get a call from alarm company asking me to go and have a look...not a chance I said and hung up...nothing is worth more than my personal safety (especially next doors clothes) Turns out when they did get burgled they were not even insured Oh the irony
  13. Here here Fintan....really dont want my area to change - loved it as it was slightly scruffy and down to earth...
  14. Well if teens are on machines and not using them ask them to please get off...really not hard or complicated.. and yes you are complaining. They have limited time in the gym think its 4-6pm 2 days a week and once on the weekend...hey if they really annoy you why dont you ask at reception so you can avoid...
  15. Please dont mock the teenagers, mine and others go and guess what they are trying to be healthy and fit so give them a break....
  16. And bless him he didn't know periods were monthly....he is quite proud that he was "uneducated" at school he believes it alows him greater access to the even poorer villagers And when he said his proudest moment was when a mum called and told him her daughter is now at school (after he went and got a little factory going with women earning money to be able to afford to send their kids to school)....i shed a few tears here at work!
  17. Brilliant story the man is awesome in every sense....incredible story well worth the read....movie I reckon
  18. Just a quick question James - do you know why Southwark do not provide statistics (like they used to) per school, Lewisham do.... http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/education/schools/school-admission/applying-to-start-secondary-school/Documents/SecondarySchools201415.pdf It would be very useful to back up so much mis guided ideas about banding, ability, etc. pretty sure these stats must be somewhere - Kinsdale for example claim to use 3 bands and then a lottery within them...but I would like to know how many places within each band. It seems that this new school which is very much needed is coming under incredible scrutiny before even confirmed yet the schools existing already seem to do what they like (admissions wise).
  19. I just (last hour) installed AVG and I had to uninstall norton to load avg...it highlighted norton in a box and I clicked uninstall and it did it for me....(I am so not technical) but it has worked!!! But am not sure if you can load avg without the internet?
