  1. Just a thought but how about cordoning off a bit of the Green and setting the bus stop slightly back from the road (the one on the Goose Green side of East Dulwich Rd), it's so cramped there when people are waiting for a bus and pedestrians are trying to walk through... might be nice to ring an area so that the stop can be set back from the narrow pavement. It would mean losing a bit of the green but only a smidgen. Will add to the consultation.
  2. Love the Old Nun's Head just the way it is with the booths etc.. very sad to see Johnny and his team go, end of an era. Food is great, huge portions and just the right kind of atmosphere.
  3. I'm a local photographer and last year I exhibited work as part of the Dulwich Festival Artists' Open House event, which incorporates all art forms and covers the areas of ED/WD/Dulwich/Forest Hill/Honor Oak and Peckham Rye. It's very, very good but I think the deadline has passed for entries now - and I never got the invite this year or heard about it at all, so forgot to apply in time. Here's a link to the Festival website: http://www.dulwichfestival.co.uk/2009/openhouse.asp I would be interested in organising something photography based in addition to the Open House event if enough people are interested.
  4. We don't know what the cause of the accident was and I am very, very sad that this has happened and offer my deepest and sincerest sympathies to the family of the little girl. I am also very angry because this junction is a known danger spot for anyone who uses it and this fact is consistently ignored by the local authority. The roadworks created an even greater danger and this was brought to the attention of those responsible but still the poor conditions continued. I do think the temporary lights should have included a green light for pedestrians to cross by, mainly because they were hardly temporary (this has gone on for several weeks now). Only cars were included in the temporary filter system, there was no provision made for pedestrians to cross, they were left guessing as to when it was safe, with no actual right of way over cars at any time. This is wrong, pedestrians should not be left to take pot luck on a junction that was already very dangerous, not when the work takes several weeks, it is irresponsible.
  5. Yes, it seems that it was a young girl knocked down and killed by a lorry. Completely tragic. Why has there been no provision for pedestrians to cross while the roadworks have been going on? I cross this road each morning and I just knew something was going to happen, in fact at least one person on here predicted there would be some kind of accident. I've watched motorists drive like lunatics to get through the lights and pedestrians have to take pot luck as to when it's safe to cross... The work looked like it was finished yesterday so why wasn't the junction returned to normal? It's always been a really dangerous junction, people drive very badly through it but the roadworks left us without a pedestrian crossing.... surely this is very wrong?
  6. Sorry but I think it's really depressing and horrible, like those dreary public murals we used to see everywhere in the 80s. You have so many talented local artists in this area, why not put it out to tender and see what they come up with? Will go along and consult and have emailed you directly; I think it's an eyesore.
  7. Not another case of arson in the park? Any chance of CCTV or a 24 hour webcam being installed? The Cafe is too valuable to the park and the community to be left vulnerable.
  8. Thanks Eileen, it's worth another shot I guess. Have found The Lane SNT really ineffectual in the past, problem isn't going away though, so something has to be done.
  9. There's a continuous spate of car break-ins all along Fenwick Rd. Both my neighbours have had their vehicles broken into this year and then it happened to me about 2 months ago. Rear quarter light window smashed and yes they seemed to be looking for a sat nav as the stem was still attached, so I'm going to remove it from now on (thanks for the tip). I reported mine to the Police but they took too long to come and fingerprint etc.. and I needed to get the car secure ASAP. Have found The Lane Safer Neighbourhod Team very apathetic on most matters, say all the right things at the time but fail to take notes and follow anything up in an effective way (sorry that's just my opinion) despite promising the reverse. Most of the residents seem to be aware of this break-in problem now and try and stay vigilant, look out for each other's vehicles etc, my neighbour caught someone snooping around vehicles in Fenwick Grove a few weeks ago and saw him off before he could do anything. It seems to happen all along the street, not just the Nutbrook end and generally late at night.
