The lady said she would report it to the police, she worked at Franklins. The cyclist guy apparently has a clothes stall in Northcross Rd at the weekends. I was so impressed with his actions although I'm not sure I would have risked a possible knife in the stomach over an iPhone. The fashion these days is to swipe your phone while you are using it and still logged in to it apparently, it's very common in Camden, that way they can disable the 'find my phone' feature and exploit any personal information they find on it. If you have an iPhone you need to set a password for 'restrictions' as well as your main pass code, this means they can't change things like 'Find my phone' even if they swipe it logged in.

I had parts removed from my Piaggio in Silvester rd last year! I have a CCTV camera with IR on the road outside my house now. Also had it wheeled around the corner one night as well so lock up both front and back wheels.

Yesterday a lady had her mobile phone stolen right from her hand in broad daylight outside the Chandelier in Lordship Lane, several men went after the culprit and one of the guys who was on a bike, caught up with him in Melbourne grove, punched him to the ground and recovered the phone. He was a total hero although it's a shame he didn't hold him for the Police. The thief was black with short cropped hair about 14 years old, according to the cyclist hero. What's going on in ED at the moment?

Crystal Palace Rd - Robberies / Warning
NickT replied to crystalpalaceroad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
While this is clearly a concern for us all, James Barber is not Batman, he can only operate through the channels available to him like the Police and Social Services and it seems he is has done that. We need an East Dulwich Kickass, any volunteers? ;-) -
Slightly off topic but after a particularly heavy landing on a Virgin flight last year a camp air attendant came on the address system saying "On behalf of Captain Crash and the crew we'd like to welcome you to London's Heathrow Airport, we'll soon be asking you to leave the smoking wreckage of the aircraft but until then remain in your seat with your seatbelt on". I was also stopped for speeding on the M40 nr Oxford at 1 am years ago and the Policeman lean't in the window and said 'Good evening wing commander, having trouble taking off are we", not funny at the time. I hope to hear the Southern train guy at some point.

Do you mean East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye? Just curious where you are talking about. Very sorry to hear about your experience.

This evening at Chelsea Town Hall, recent ED resident Andrew Bain will be singing Opera and Musical Theater in aid of charity, it should be a nice event with Champagne reception beforehand. Andrew used to live in Silvester Rd before recently getting married and leaving the area. If this sounds like your kind of thing and you fancy an impromptu evening out in Chelsea, tickets are still available and you can pay on the door. I will be making a film of the performance so come and say hi if you come. Details here http://www.lovelosspassion.com/ Doors open a 7.

I was walking towards the driveway as the cyclist came past me, it was like a slow motion film. I actually think other pedestrians blocked the cyclists view of the car til the last minute. Had the cyclist been on the road this would never have happened.

I am a cyclist, love my fixie, It just annoys me when my two wheeled colleagues pass me at the red lights or ride on the pavement, we don't have any special rights because we aren't polluting. I'm not bashing cyclists, just the few idiots like the guy yesterday.
-
Lowlander a dumb human being that puts others at risk by his thoughtless, careless and illegal behaviour?.....sure. There are children, dogs, elderly people etc on the pavement, he had no concern for their safety, why should I be concerned about his.

I quite often see adults cycling on the pavement on Lordship Lane but last night I finally witnessed one causing an accident. A cyclist in his thirties I would guess, passed me at speed on the pavement opposite House of Tipler, he went straight into the side of a small car pulling out of the small gated estate on the west side of the lane. The car was nudging out slowly and the driver could never have seen the fast moving cyclist. The cyclist appeared to go across the bonnet landing on the far side. The cyclist seemed shocked and winded but it was the young driver I felt sorry for. I hung around to make sure the cyclist didn't blame the driver for the incident. I guess because cyclist aren't required to be insured the driver will have to pay for the damage to his car which seems very unfair.

Becsbex it was this one from Coomatec, it was ?50 when you include the cost of a 32 gb memory card. It does require mains power so needs to be fitted near a window so you can run the power cable through the window frame. It was well made and has a little IR light on during nighttime hours. Obviously it needs to be placed high on the wall out of tamper distance. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coomatec-Vision-Recorder-Real-Time-Surveillance/dp/B00DIXG3PC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1378277381&sr=8-2&keywords=Coomatec

I have installed a CCTV camera covering the street side of my property, it stores video of the last 14 days of activity and cost just ?50, this includes IR lights and night vision recording. If you have a CCTV camera that covers the street you need to put up a sign warning the public, apart from that it's completely legal.

Anyone hear jets flying over ED around 5am this morning?
NickT replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
All aircraft hydraulicaly deploy flaps at the rear of their wings to compensate for the loss of lift resulting from their slowing down for landing, however the 'change in gear' noise is likely to be from the Doppler effect which causes a change in pitch of the engine noise as the aircraft passes over head. As the aircraft travels towards your position the sound waves are compressed resulting in an increase in apparent pitch, as it passes over your position the sound waves are suddenly stretched as the aircraft travels away resulting in a sudden apparent drop in the pitch of the engine noise. -

Video footage on a DVD is compressed so it takes up less space, it really isn't ideal for re editing, there will be a significant loss of quality especially if you try and compress it again to put back on a DVD or on Vimeo etc at the end.

I understand that the main cause of death for London rats is actually drowning when we have heavy rainfall and the sewers really fill up with water and destroy their nests and young, the warm summer with little rain has probably not helped the rat situation across London as a whole. I had a problem with rats years ago in North London and it was the end of a long dry summer. I'm not keen for rain but a damn good storm could really sort things out perhaps.

Sally there are free Apps that will do this on both Windows and Mac > http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ is one I use effectively. It can remove background noises that are constant like a hiss or hum or even a level amount of chatter. There are lots of free tutorials online if you google them eg. If the noises are sporadic like say fireworks going off you would need to go in and edit the waveforms manually.

Thanks Eddie, I'm a cyclist but not so knee jerk fanatical about it that I couldn't appreciate your valid point. -
IngridB the street art has been fantastic, don't be discouraged by the East Dulwich 'how will this affect the price of my property' crowd, they know the price of everything and the value of nothing. I think those of us for whom East Dulwich is a home not just a property investment have really enjoyed being presented with something challenging and interesting to look at. Great painting can come out of an aerosol can, not just a Farrow and Ball colour chart.

Film about how the Dulwich street art came about
NickT replied to IngridB's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would like to add my thanks and congratulations to you Ingrid and to everyone who clearly made so much effort to make this happen, I saw the large wall peices going up but totally missed the fact that it was connected to the Picture Gallery or there was an Art Festival in May. Is there a mailing list I could join to be kept informed about activities in the future? I've seen a dramatic change to Dulwich in the 13 years I've lived here, mostly it's gentrification, this was a breath of fresh air, a little raw and edgy. Loved it. -
I beat my girlfriend at dominoes last night... Bitch needs to learn that I choose the Pizza Toppings.

Looks like Somerfield is out and Coop is in, the signs are changing today, is that a good or bad thing? I always thought of Coop as a bit, well, cheap and s**t but I do bank with Coop and that seems to be good.

This evening I challenged a young black guy at my door who was getting sponsorship for the 'local kids football team', he had called before and claimed to be collecting. He got aggressive, threatened to break my jaw and said he would come back to 'put my windows' in, I followed hi down the street and he ran off. I have given description to the ED Police station so if you have had a similar experience please let them know. I live in Silvester Road and he was about 5'9", black, wearing a black beanie hat and an England Rugby tracksuit top with the O2 sponsorship logo on it. He had two sheets of paper with writing on them but these are just props. Do not give this man money.
