Outside of brockley station for years there was a really tatty area that was just tagged and vandalised, a year or two ago three amazingly beautiful murals were painted by an infamous graffitti artist called KNOWN,who had been vandalising trains etc for years, whilst I hate the graffitti on trains etc these murals have added to the area immensley and like most really good art, other taggers have left these peices alone, and I have lost count of the amount of people I have seen photographing the murals, I think having dedicated graffitti areas is a good idea as it allows some of these young and very talented artists to develop there skills with out damaging peoples private property. I believe if there were more facility for young artists the amount of mindless graffitti would go down, and whilst we will never get rid of graffers we could at least give them a platform to make good art and support them where we can. Art is a good thing and should be embraced.

So I read this morning that they're splitting because Dave hasn't got over the death of his wife a few months ago, and he can't deal with the idea of touring. I think that's really sad. (apologies for bringing a mawkish element into this) Not sad enough, however, that "Well I've consulted the Ker-Ching" didn't make me laugh out loud.... ---------------------------- that did me!!

Mr Louisiana is so impressed with the tax benefits of charitable status (which are legion!) that he is seriously considering setting up his own religious charity. He's even found a suitable god (one that will be of particular interest to computer geeks smiling smiley ). -------------------------------------------------------- bill gates is already a charity no??

well that was a lovely evening with the lads so thanks keef for suggesting this little foray, I have to say I am a little bleary eyed this morning though, perhaps I was a little bit weak when offered the fourth pint and the shot! Still small price to pay for some very interesting and lively chat about kids and great to meet some very cool people in the area. Now off to get steamy with a deseperate housewife!(well desperate to have no wall paper in the spare room):)) lets do it again soonish not too soon though I'm a bit too lightweight for that!! thanks and hugs to all that made it!!

The ones we looked up were considerably more expensive than that, more like 1000-1200 for the birth and up to 40 ph for after care, which I find slightly nervy being self employed especially as the bills in this area(rent etc) are stretching us already, but again what price to pay for Anna being happy and comfortable with all of this crazy stuff that having our first child entails? If anyone has a tried and tested Doula that they can recommend us we would be very greatful for the number! hugs

For what my opinions worth, I think the church is a bad idea as the building is a cinema and should be restored and used as such, I have nothing against religion, but alot of these evangelical churches are little more than a cynical attempt to raise money for the "pastor" and offer not much if nothing back to the local community, except total traffic chaos on sundays. There have been a few cases recently of the charities commission getting involved with these evangelical churches because of the cynical way they manipulate the system and in one or two cases they have been taken to court for there actions,If the "church" that takes over the building is a spurious registered charity how much council tax etc do they pay? I am no expert on these things but I think its likely to be very little. Using the building for what it was designed for is in my opinion the right way to go and has more prospects of offering the local community a useable facility. How many "local" people will actually use an evangelical church and how many of the congregation will come from a distance outside of the area? As for the row that appers to be erupting above about tantrums etc. GET A GRIP THE PAIR OF YOU OR THE REST OF THE FORUMITES MAY BANG YOUR CYBER HEADS TOGETHER. I THOUGHT YOU WERE FREINDS ON HERE ON THE WHOLE!! hugs

Very sad I saw them at the amersham arms a couple of years ago and it was one of the best gigs I have ever been to, they are a real South London institution and always sound best south of the river!!

I will definatley be taking as much time as I can off in the second six months because more than anything else I want to be with my little girl,being selfemployed helps but also I want My missus to finish her Phd and being home is the best way for me to support her. I think it's a good idea if mum is the main breadwinner.................eek I'km breaking out into a cold sweat with all of this talk 3 months till d-day for me and it seems to be rushing along.

I will be there from 8pm wearing a very colourful flowery shirt, and looking a bit like a fish out of water as i dont know anyone round here!! I have glasses and am very friendly so feel free to say hi!!

thanks silly women my better half is due in january and has been interested in the doula thing I will save this thread for her. I was slightly shocked at the amount some doulas charge though, but if it makes Anna feel good it has to be worth every penny, now to earn some!

I will always intervene if there's a danger to a woman, I did recently and got a bit of a kicking but I would do it again in a second because that's how I was brought up, I have a child on the way now so the reasons for intervening other than that would have to be pretty serious as the chances of getting hurt are quite high, but if we don't intervene when we can then society as a whole will suffer and to be honest i want as nice a place as possible for my little one to grow up.

I always trust people and try not to be cynical as what you give in life is what you get, if you look for the worst in people more often than not you get the worst out of them, If your trust turns out to be mis-placed then that's a shame but I would rather take the odd let down than go through life worrying about the worst that could happen. It's just too much stress to live that way. Alot of great opportunities arise from giving people a good vibe, and sometimes even young people who are not trust worthy just need someone to show a little faith in them to turn them around. To feel that people trust you is one of the best feelings you could have, and like wise to make people feel that way is one of the best things you could do for someone so in my opinion it's trust all the way.

I think what we really need are more allotments - growing your own = cheap, no food miles, organic (if you choose), delicious, and nutritious. The excercise in digging your spud bed is enough to fulfil anyone's weekly quota, and I've never met a child yet who won't eat a fruit or veg its grown itself. Surely it would save the NHS gazillions? ---------------------------------------------------------- I agree with this view, although I buy organic when I can, I feel that growing your own organically is the way forward, if you have the space why not? It's the ultimate way of controlling what goes into your system, I am not sure about the science of farming but can it really be that muchmore expensive to not add fertilisers and pesticides? Its a shame that organic food costs so much more because after my child is born I may not be able to afford organic shopping which is a shame, I would like my child to grow up on organic food, but realistically I dont think she will be damaged eating non organic, at least I have to hope not.

Since making a post a couple of weeks ago about being new to the area and looking for work, quite a few people have been in touch which is a great for a couple of reasons, the first being I have met some really nice people and been made to feel very welcome, and the second is that I have been given several little jobs to put in my diary! So thanks to all the great forumites who have been in touch about that, but also thanks to everyone who have given me advice on baby stuff!! Your the best. hugs Iain.
