Hi All I read his thread with interest and so felt I should add my comment / observation. I actually live opppostie a gypsy site (they prefer to be called gypsies rather than travellers) and quite recently there was a 'big fat gypsy' wedding which went on for 2 and a half days. The dresses were pretty much as they are in the documentary and the bride is 16 yrs old. so far that much of the documentary seems to be true however, having lived oppostie the site for many years, i don't think the women are disrespected by the men, as portrayed in the prog. form where I sit, and i think i have a pretty good view point, from my living room window, it seems to be a matriarchal culture. The women seem to give as good as they get. As a documentary maker, I know that showing them as people who just happen to live in caravans is pretty dull, it just wouldn't make a programme. I do however think there is a socio-anthropological prog there to be made.
