All have now got permission. There are plans available to see at the town hall. Which one(s) are you especially interested in? Some locals may still have some plans. If you would like to keep in touch more on things like this you could join the local Peckham Residents Network mailing list; that has a sub list for Bellenden matters including planning applications: reply via PM with your name & address.

But finally got something which might be OK, if ever built. Seems to have gone very quiet.

The idea/hope is that restoring this wonderful room - the original waiting room - will attract attention from potential investors to make the room useable and habitable, and also by being open and in use contribute to more light on the platforms at night. The windows overlooking platform 2 are to be unbricked as well, and then there will be a public launch of the whole project. The money came from the Cleaner, Greener, Safer programme for an initiative from the Rye Lane & Station Action Group. Bill Morris and Benedict O'Looney are local architects. Benedict is also an architectural historian who is the expert on Peckham historical buildings. Each summer he leads walks for the Peckham Society. These are now usually packed out with locals and people from further afield because he gives such entertaining and knowledgeable talks. See www.peckhamsociety.org.uk for info on joining the Peckham Society and getting Peckham Society News which gives info on the walks, or keep tabs on the website where the info will be posted in due course.

The Bellenden Renewal Scheme was for 10 years from 1997, and we are told it ended in August 2007. But as locals have not had any information from the Council volunteered to them for years we are hardly aware that they still existed even up to August - except when work suddenly appeared from no where like the path and railing across Goose Green, or the triffid-like lights in the nearby streets.

We have at least ?40k for repairs to the playground, and hoping to get another ?40k for improvements to the playground. So if you want to be involved in this let me know and I will give you contact details.

Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Eileen, I don't pretend to have read this document > in as much detail you probably have, but when you > say that London Bridge to Victoria line may be > lost - which of the options under consideration > are you thinking of? I haven't read it in detail! It appears from what I have skimmed in this and other material that they are proposing to stop the Loop Line once the ELLX is in place, and reducing the services to Victoria and London Bridge. But I am not on top of the details. The purpose of the meeting on 2nd Ocober is to share information and insghts into what is being considered and to identlfy clearly what we need to understand and alert others to as necessary. It is also possible that we can lobby for things they are not considering like connecting the lines at Brixton station bringing the Victoria tube line to our doorsteps almost. I thimk the view is growing from the users' end that there needs to be some radical thinking to try to get real improvements to inner south London services. The consultation on the South London RUS is the right time to try to provoke this. If you are free, why not come to the meeting on 2nd October and be informed and contirbute to the thinking?
  9. mockney piers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The victoria loop would definitely be a big loss, > but am I right in thinking this will effectively > be replaced by the east london line extension > anyway? It looks as if it is the East London Line Extension (ELLX) that could end the Loop Line between Victoria and London Bridge. The problem is that the ELLX would go to Clapham Junction and not Victoria or London Bridge. It is possible that the ELLX will mean the reduction of services to both Victoria and London Bridge. That is what we need to probe to get views into the strategic planning now - which is what we are currently being consulted on (at least theoretically as few people know they are being consulted). Those who do know, and who have studeid this, are suggesting that there are alternatives and that some extra things need to be considered in this long term strategy. So it is a real chance to influence how all this develops for south London commuters. But some people need to be be willing to get into the details and discussion. That is what I hope our meeting on 2nd October will help more of us to do.

Probably less trains to London Bridge as well.
  11. There are plans to improve the playground at Goose Green. These are at a very early stage in discussion between the Council and the newly emerging Friends of Goose Green. Some parents with small children who use the playground are leading the discussions. If you want to contribute to this, or get on the mailing list for the Friends of Goose Green, please email through the Web Forum administrator (or however it is that emails miraculously arrive without appearing on this Forum - sorry I haven't worked out yet how this happens. Can someone enlighten me?)
  12. Do you use the rail services from any of the following stations: Denmark Hill, East Dulwich, Nunhead, Peckham Rye, Queen's Rd Peckham, South Bermondsey? A number of comments have been aired in this forum about the state of East Dulwich station. Have you got anything to voice about the train services there? Do people who use East Dulwich station use the Loop Line between London Bridge and Victoria? I guess this probably would involve getting to Peckham Rye and changing to the Victoria services. Do people do that? Although I live between East Dulwich & Peckham Rye stations I always use Peckham Rye so not familiar with the world as an East Dulwich station user. The reason I am asking is that Network Rail are 'consulting' (though hardly anyone knows) on long term rail services strategy, and the Loop Line between Victoria and London Bridge may be lost. There may also be changes to services affecting East Dulwich, and all the other local stations. I think we need to have an active rail users' group in this area to look after users' interests from a very informed position. If you are a keen rail user and want to see services maintained and improved at any of our local stations do please let me know. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 2nd October 7pm to discuss all this, and work out what the issues are and how as rail users we can look after and lobby for rail users' interests. If you would like to come and know more please email for the details and background briefing papers I have collected. If you are really keen you can find a copy of the draft South London RUS document at:http://www.networkrail.co.uk * click Route Utilisation Strategies in left hand column * click Route Utilisation Strategies in main text * click the South London folder in the list of RUS strategies * click South London RUS draft for consultation I look forward to hearing from you if you are a keen rail user ... And it would be good to have a discussion here about what we think of local rail services, and ideas for improving them, and what already works well that should be maintained.
  13. why do we have to have anything in the centre of the roundabout? I like it the way it is. The Council are asking for people to choose between a lamp post, a tree a sculpture or a signpost, though I notice they don't give the option of no change. Won't objects as suggested by the Council distract drivers when they should have all their focus on driving safely in that area? I have suggested instead (idea passed on to me by a trader in Lordship Lane) that there could be solar powered (energy efficient) lighting fitted into the roundabout wall itself. It would not be intrusive as the other suggestions would be, and it would make the roundabout more visible at night and also, if done well, could be very attractive. I hope others wil support this idea in their comments to the Council to make sure it gets examined.
  14. Just for information - Piermont Green is historically and formally part of Peckham Rye Common. As such it is protected against all developments, including tarmac for car parking.

We also do eggy bread with streaky strips and maple syrup - is there anything you like in particular?? Let me know - i'm the Chef. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I am sure these are really tasty. But can I make a plea to be able to get plain cooked wholesome vegetables as well with such dishes? I often find the kinds of food offerd to me as vegetarian not well balanced, and it usually gives indigestion unless accompanied by some decent vegetables which are not covered in sauce (especially not with a dairy base of some sort).
  16. kingtubby wrote: > ____________________________________________________________ Hi everyone. I think this is a great forum for helping us exchange views on things that affect us all, and thanks to everyone who has contributed. The Peckham Residents' Network (PRN) posted the information for Southwark HOWL as a contribution to an important debate in Southwark about the use and management of our public open spaces, not because I was expecting a particular line. PRN has over 1000 residents on its email list, and information relating to matters of mutual concern in and around the Peckham area are circulated. It tries to be neutral and just circulate info of common concern, rather than push a particular line. In this case the information circulated had been provided by Southwark Howl. (If you would like more info on PRN, you can send me a personal message (PM) by clicking on the link that says Reply via PM.) It is clear that the ownership of dogs in cities raises issues which people have strong feelings about. All the more important in my view to make sure that we all have a really good understanding of all sides to such issues before decisions are taken. The current issue is how Southwark Council manage the parks and the implication of them having exceeded their authority, in this case by putting up costly notice boards without any powers to enforce them. Some of the comments on the Southwark HOWL petition web page address these points so I hope that readers of this thread can take a look to get a rounded picture of the issues from all sides - www.ipetitions.com/petition/Southwarkhowl Whatever views we have about dogs maybe we can all share a concern about authorities exceeding their powers and not following due process? Some of the comments in this thread may be more about the other big issue which is whether people should or shouldn't have dogs in cities. It sounds like that could well be aired nationally so that the benefits of having dogs in cities can be brought out as well as the problems it causes. Some of these problems are being aired in this forum. There are of course huge benefits for humans in having companion animals - significantly reduces some illnesses like heart disease, gives immense support for people living on their own and for the elderly, and teaches children about other living species. Of course that might also start a debate about whether people should be allowed to live alone in the cities or be elderly as it causes these needs for companionship or whether children should have close contact with other animals....
  17. This information, from a new residents' group called HOWL, is posted by the Peckham Residents' Network ____________________________________________________________ PLEASE sign our online petition at www.ipetitions.com/petition/Southwark howl Southwark dog lovers have formed a lobby group called HOWL (Hounds Off lead Welfare Lobby) to persuade Southwark Council to step back from imposing a blanket policy that will condemn all dogs in the borough, regardless of size or temperament,?to live the rest of their lives attached to a lead. Virtually nobody in the borough, least of all the people who walk their dogs in the parks every day, had any idea that this was coming over the horizon. The first we knew about it was when new signs popped up all over our parks stating that all dogs had to be kept on leads everywhere, with the exception of a few little 'dog exercise' areas in a handful of parks. Astonishingly, the Parks Department erected the signs without going through the correct legal process of changing the existing byelaw, which states that 'All Dogs Must Be Kept Under Control' (a very sensible law in our opinion). We discovered that they had been so confident that they would sneak through the change in the law without proper consultation that they went ahead and spent ?36,000 on this signage PRIOR to any changes being ratified. ? There have been no substantial reasons put forward to justify this universal sentence being imposed upon all dogs and their owners, save the fact that the antisocial individuals who own those rather antisocial dogs?sometimes vandalise park property and don't clear up after their animals. We all condemn this, but these are issues which can and should be dealt with using existing legislation. Why should the law-abiding majority with mild-mannered happy dogs be penalised for the sins of the antisocial few? It's like saying that all humans should be locked up because a few of the species commit GBH. There are antisocial elements in all the different park user groups, so why have the dog owners been singled out for mass punishment? ? We believe that any changes in the law regarding dogs on leads should be done on a park by park basis by the local regular users, and not imposed as a blanket policy across the whole borough. ? We beg the help and support from all people who believe in fair play and common sense. WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME. The Southwark Executive will be making the decision on June 19. ? PLEASE sign our online petition at www.ipetitions.com/petition/Southwark howl ? If you want to know more details about our efforts so far we have a myspace spot on: www.myspace.com/Southwarkhowl ??
  18. yes please we really do need a decent non-meat restaurant. Only hope that it also caters for those of us who don't want to overeat on cheese instead of meat, and also has imagination beyond every dish having vegetable peppers or hot spices in it, and most salads ruined by raw onions. I know they taste nice but some digestions can't take them, and for some reason vegetarian food seems to attract them all the time now, and it becomes desperate for a vegetarian. How wonderful it would be also if at least some restaurants offered wholesome and tasty brown rice instead of the white rice which tastes of nothing and has little nutrition either. My ideal woudlne arestaurant that has also trained in the macrobiotic approach to food. A real understanding of balanced nutrition and delicious tastes, and now much better packaged for the mainstream. That would be occasional heaven.
  19. can you include Ganapati, 38 Holly Grove SE15. I knwo it's not SE22 but it is as near to Lordship Lane as Forest Hill Rd is and it is a different kind of Indian restaurant - real Indian from South India. For people who are keen on Indian food this is a must for this area.
