You didn't mention "road tax"
-
It seems you need to know where they are usually parked to report untaxed vehicles anonymously to the DVLA: https://www.gov.uk/report-untaxed-vehicle unless someone knows different?
-
Oh dear - it would appear that the car is neither taxed nor insured....
-
An Audi driver? Who would have thought... You should report them here: https://www.met.police.uk/report/report-a-road-traffic-incident/ That could have been you / your child / someone you know

Another positive review for Steve. He repaired our washer dryer yesterday. Wasn't urgent so we arranged it to be fixed a few days later. He's quick, reliable, friendly and communicates! Wish every trader was like him.

If you do call police you must tell them that you "think" you saw them armed with a knife and that you "think" they threatened to kill you. Otherwise they won't do owt. Welcome to the 'hood.

The link to the video doesn't work - is it still there? Oh and even without seeing it, it clearly sounds like theft: Intention to permanently deprive Kids leave their stuff outside their homes all the time...doesn't give anyone the right to take it without asking or without express permission.

Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Beulah replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
^That's a very reasonable point. There was a plan for some traffic calming measures around the Bellenden Rd area that now appears to have been dropped. That may have had some study of traffic flows in the wider area. -

You're a bit slow jimlad - we've already had the "dangerous"/"evil" cyclists rant -

Oh excellent, this is heating up properly now. The anti-motorist conspiracy theme developed quickly, but I'm surprised it took so long to start on "dangerous" cyclists. -

But that's kind of the point...The non-residents using your street as a daily short-cut aren't part of the wider community, unless you take in all the millions of Londoners. We're not talking about main roads here, these are residential roads for people to live in. Why should drivers' rights take precedence over your peaceful enjoyment of where you live? Surely their insistence to drive fast and pollute your road is just as selfish too. -

My point is not that the current situation is great: It's not. I'm hoping that by keeping CG closed it will lead to other traffic calming measures in the surrounding area that will create a less-polluted, quieter and safer environment for more residents. Surely that's got to be better than encouraging more traffic to use our residential roads? You may be happy with vehicles using our streets as a rat-run, I'm not. -

My road is probably one of those that has been "impacted" by the closure of Camberwell Grove but I think it should stay closed. And I have voted in favour of it staying shut. Hopefully it will be the start of other traffic calming measures in the surrounding area. Many of the roads around there are used as rat runs (and have been for years) which increases pollution and makes the roads more dangerous for me, my family and neighbours. The solution to increasing traffic and pollution is not more road space - it's limiting vehicle use. And before you ask: I do drive and own a car. -
Thanks Capitals She has group lessons with school now (also at Peckham Pulse) so we may twin track it with a mixture of that and us teaching her. We may consider one-to-one lessons later.
-
Our 6 year old has been having group lessons at Peckham Pulse for several weeks now but we're not that impressed with how she's progressed. She enjoys going but we actually want her to be able to swim! We're now considering one to one tuition at the same pool. It's not cheap so we'd like to know if it's worth it. Has anyone had any experience of one to one lessons there? Thanks in advance.

Zipcar now appears to have the system up and running. But I suspect the Flex cars may stay where they are for some time as it costs 29p per minute or ?17.40 an hour to use them. Zipcar says it compares favourably with a London taxi fare but surely only if it's not comparing it to a fixed fare. Can you imagine being stuck in a jam, totting up 29p as each minute passes? I do think car sharing is the way forward for inner London but it has to make economic sense.

I've forwarded them a link to this thread. Would suggest anyone with personal experiences - especially "mango self-smoothie"! - contact them in person. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/business/trading-standards-and-food-safety/food-safety-hygiene-and-standards/food-safety-enforcement

Rye Lane cycle lane confusion and danger
Beulah replied to Huggers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
^I rode over Blackfriars Bridge this morning during rush hour - was total chaos. The queue backed up almost halfway. There was some ex-squaddie fat head - City of London PCSO type - near the gates at the northern end who was there to presumably make sure no-one was hurt - he was just shouting at everyone. Made me wonder what would have happened if the terrorists had used a bicycle instead of a van - perhaps all cycling would be banned? Vehicular traffic is completely unaffected. I get the need to protect people but this is poorly thought out, poorly executed and actually puts more people in danger of being hurt IMO. -
To the man that asked my 6 year old to cycle on the road
Beulah replied to R U IN ED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There's a chance for many of you to be even more miserable next week: It's ride your "bike and scooter to school" week. My 3 year old and 6 year old will be taking part and WILL be using the pavement. Come and say hi! -
And as if by magic Zipcar has just started promoting Zipcar Flex: http://www.zipcar.co.uk/flex?utm_source=zc_eu&utm_medium=email&utm_term=email&utm_content=wkmlr&utm_campaign=PIDMID149159 I suppose it'll become a problem (to car owners at least) if the Zipcars prevent residents parking in their street. One Zipcar per street may not make much difference but if it was to turn into 2 or 3... I think car sharing is a good idea for Inner London and I have used Zipcar but it's not that cheap. If you want to use a car at weekends and maybe occasionally during the week or for holidays, it's not that much more to own a car. Make Zipcars/car sharing much cheaper though and it would become a no-brainer.
-
There's one in my road too that's NOT in a marked bay (close to Bellenden Road). Been there for a week. Doesn't appear to have been used in that time and doesn't appear on the Zipcar app. I have used Zipcar in the past and know they were trying to get Southwark Council to approve a system where people can hire cars in one area and leave them in Southwark. I got the impression Southwark weren't too keen on it. I wonder if that's anything to do with the sudden appearance of Zipcars on random streets...

Please stop describing people who are killed in road accidents as "stupid" and "idiots", they are almost always not. It's easy to say "left-hook" accidents are avoidable but there are often many factors at play: cycle lanes pushing cyclists to the left of traffic (and into their blind spots) at traffic lights ; HGVs with huge blind spots that cyclists are not aware of; poor/nearly blind/distracted HGV drivers; advance stop lines encouraging cyclists to get to the front at red lights; poorly designed junctions that create sudden pinch points; inexperienced riders; lorries too big for London's narrow streets; huge potholes that cyclists have to avoid... Many of these points have all been raised in criminal and coroners' courts as factors contributing to the deaths of cyclist in London in recent years. What you term "stupid behaviour" may actually be a logical outcome of those factors.
