i was asked to sign a petition on monday evening outside the community centre in darrell rd. i didn't because i don't mind if it closes. it's not a very useful place anyway..only limited opening hours.

i agree with dany. sometimes an experience that hurts can enable a person to create a different reality. usually through their kids. the whole argument about private v state schools cuts everyone to the core however the bitterness expressed on this forum is a embarassing really.

do you have kids at secondary school beth? if so which ones - just out of interest. good to know which ones are recommended :-)

for goodness sake - the state secondary schools don't 'look bad on the face of it' because of the private schools. they fall victim to under resourcing and lack of investment. its sad but true. also your argument appears to assert that if the state schools were flooded with middle class kids who otherwise would be at private scool - the state ones would be ok. what kind of reasoning is that when you so readily accuse others of snobbishness.

i managed to get my daughter into goodrich after appeal process etc this was ten years ago so its been oversubscribed for years. she loved it! secondary schools are a huge problem around here and probably will be for some time yet unfortunately.

there is a serious lack of music stores. there used to be one near barclays which closed yonks ago. if there is a store i haven't noticed it.

Claire it was a fail to stop by a lorry that had just come from rye lane. police are investigating and will hopefully prosecute driver. sorry that you witnessed such an awful event :-(

that's all very well josephine but i couldn't get my daughter into charter for love nor money! the secondary school system arond here is appalling. john - i recommend goodrich primary which is excellent. difficult to get your kids in though unless you live next door!

unbelievable! just read dulwich mum blog and it made me squirm with embarrasment. i would like to think that its a joke but i fear it may be for real! not too hard to picture unfortunately!

did you know that Boris Karloff was born in ED? yup..there's a blue plaque outside his house on forest hill road next to the co-op. ok may just be ever so slightly on the border for ED - but I think we could claim him!! we could have a statue accentuating his prominent eyebrows!!

the only plods left in ED are safer neighbourhood teams so wouldn't worry too much!!
