  1. I’ve searched and found some chat back in October about the white stuff place closing and that Oliver Bonas could take it over. Hopefully that’s the case. Went to Bromley over Christmas and there’s quite a few shop closures on the main high street that weren’t there when I last went. Think it could be going the same way as Croydon sadly.
  2. Noticed today the Oliver Bonas shop is closed and it says the same on their website. Was up and running before Christmas. Wonder if they’re having a re-fit?
  3. Just up from the co-op, going towards Goose Green, a wagtail bird was flitting about on the pavement. It wasn’t worried about people walking along and then another one joined it and both flew over to a cake shop pecking at crumbs. Never seen one before and was nice to observe.
  4. I’ve viisited the lordship lane post office a couple of times over the past few years and found them so grumpy and unhelpful. One nearly falling asleep whilst people in the queue waiting! Very poor customer service.
  5. Went to get a few bits in the dog kennel hill Sainsburys this morning and something that has been £1.15 for ages has suddenly gone up to £1.45! Tin of Sainsburys anchovy fillets. Looks like price rises are on the way!
  6. Unfortunately I’m certain you will receive a fine through the post very soon! As someone else has said DV isn’t a school street and for some reason the restrictions are in force all year round, as some of my neighbours found out who have children and were taking them backwards and forwards to school clubs during the school holidays. So you would have been ok to go through the village with the Dulwich Village infants school on your left side and to go through Gallery Road through to West Dulwich. Unfortunately coming back the same way isn’t allowed between 8-10am and 3-6pm. Southwark want you to make an even longer car journey all the way round to the South Circular and along Lordship Lane, just when traffic is at its peak!
  7. You’re allowed to drive through Dulwich village i.e. as if you were driving from the North Dulwich train station to go through the village at any time. It’s just restricted on the other side I.e. if you were driving from the roundabout near Dulwich Picture gallery to go through the village towards say North Dulwich train station then you would get a ticket.

    Ageism

Thanks for the info. Didn’t know you don’t have to give your age!
  9. I drove along Townley Road going towards Lordship Lane just before Christmas and the new signs (covered in black material) are ready to go live on 6th January I guess.

    Ageism

I’m 61 and mainly looking for part time shop assistant jobs as that’s what I’ve been doing in a voluntary role for the past 18 months in a very busy charity shop. I’m on the shop floor, serving on the till, helping customers with queries, taking donations etc. I’m there once or twice a week and most days it’s so full on that I don’t get a chance to sit down but I really enjoy the role. I know the managers would give me a good reference. I’ve done lots of voluntary work over the years and was a voluntary treasurer for a local sports and social club up until 2 years ago. Maybe I’ve just left looking for paid employment too late but up until 2 years ago I was a carer for my mother in law for nearly 6 years and couldn’t actively look for anything as she was totally reliant on me as a carer. Before my life as a carer I was self employed as a registered childminder for 16 years, also bringing up my own family and before that I had many office roles in various organisations but times have changed with office work. That’s why I thought I would volunteer in a charity shop and I really enjoy it but sadly it’s not paid! I started applying for paid jobs around 7 months ago (when I was 60) and some don’t get back even with a yes or no but continue to advertise the jobs either in their shop window or online. A couple of my friends (of a similar age) and I applied for the same job in a gift etc shop in the Camberwell area and all got no response at all. The latest application was at another well known gift/clothing shop in ED. They had a sign in their window for part time Christmas staff and the job was also online. I applied online and was told the job was no longer available and to click on a link for more jobs in other areas. Clicked on the link they sent me and lo and behold the job in ED was still on their website! I’ve applied for other positions but not heard anything back. A friend who is my age has applied for over 200 jobs (not all shop work) and most don’t even respond back. Maybe it’s not ageism and happens to everyone but just thought I’d bring it up.

  17. I bought the Southwark News in Sainsbury’s today and no mention of the fundraiser but the paper was dated 19th December so might have to wait until after the Christmas period for an update. Such tragic circumstances and it’s great you’ve started the fundraiser.

After applying for part-time jobs in the local area i.e. Dulwich and Camberwell and beyond I can only assume that it’s because of ‘ageism’.?
