Or perhaps you have a passion for local history and bringing stories to life? We’re hosting a Volunteering Open Day on Sunday 2 March. Sign up for a free ticket via eventbrite here: Pop in anytime between 12noon and 3pm to say hello to our team, find out more about the roles we have on offer and hear about plans for this year. There will also be some mini tours of the mill plus hot drinks and baked treats made with our flour. We are currently looking for more tour guides, millers, gardeners and cafe helpers. We welcome young people and can help with volunteering programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. -
Milling & Baking Day at Brixton Windmill

Sunday 23 February, 10.30am to 4.30pm A unique full day experience making flour and bread with our Brixton Windmill millers and Harvey from Toad Bakery in Camberwell. You’ll not find another day like this in London! Make your own traditional stone ground flour in London’s last working mill and use it to make your own loaf of sourdough bread. The day is a small group experience day so there's lots of time to ask questions and get to know the group. Lunch is included in the day. We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong commitment to supporting our aims and objectives. You do not need to be a trained accountant but should have relevant financial experience. Key roles include: Overseeing the financial affairs of the organisation Ensuring proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place Monitoring and reporting on the financial health of the organisation Overseeing the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits Being an active, collaborative member of the Board With an annual expenditure of around £100k, several part-time employees, a cafe, a shop, and an events venue, this role offers a great opportunity to get experience of different aspects of Board-level financial management in a relatively small organisation. We have hot food available from En Root and Deuce. Bread Bread and Emily Hunt Cakes will be selling delicious baked goods and our cafe will serve warming mulled wine, hot drinks and snacks. Our shop will be open for purchase of windmill related gifts – something unique for family and friends! There will be free arts and crafts activities for children in the Green Hut throughout the afternoon as well as Christmas wreath making workshops (advance booking required) for adults. Santa’s Grotto We are very excited to announce that Santa will return to the Windmill grotto this year from 1-3pm to greet children with a small gift and allow families to capture a festive photo. We suggest a donation of £5 per child. Get your time slot ticket at our welcome desk as you come into the park.

In this full-day session (approx 5 or 6 hrs including lunch break), you will learn how to make and bake from scratch three delicious Italian and British inspired festive bakes, to wow your family and friends over Christmas holidays. This class has been designed for being run with a low number of participants, so you will be able to be followed more closely, ask questions and master these Festive bakes like a pro! Of course, you will walk away with lots of baked goods to bring home to share with your family and friends. – Only limited space available – Price includes all the ingredients, equipment and lunch – Class duration will be 5 to 6 hours with lunch break This class is suitable for anyone, regardless of age or baking experience (although a little home baking experience might be helpful). The History of Blenheim Gardens Estate and Windmill Gardens with Jon Newman from Lambeth Archives Wednesday 11 September, 7.15pm (doors open 6.45pm) Free (please reserve your seat for free on Eventbrite) Brixton Windmill Centre, SW2 5DA www.brixtonwindmill.org This year’s annual talk will explore the history and development of our nearest housing estate, Blenheim Gardens, which was designed by Ted Hollamby in the early 1970s. Jon Newman will discuss the background to the development using documents and photographs from Lambeth Archives’ collection. He will also look at the development of Windmill Gardens park, home of Brixton Windmill. There will also be an exhibition exploring the history of Lambeth Council’s public housing (1965 to 1980) which has been put together by Christiane Felber from the Bartlett School of Architecture. untilOur free family festival celebrates the annual wheat harvest and the histories and crafts of milling and artisan bread making with craft workshops, live music, food, Morris dancing, and beer from Brixton Brewery. Workshops for children include baking and traditional corn dolly making. Our shop and cafe will be open together with milling demonstrations inside the windmill. The day includes: Learn about wheat! Learn all about the growing, harvesting, and milling of the wheat, grain and flour that makes your favourite bakes such as cakes, biscuits, breads and more! With information and practical displays throughout the afternoon from expert millers, and growers. You can even have a go at milling yourself with our hand querns! Our millers will also be demonstrating milling inside the windmill – you’ll be able to sign up on the day. Shop and cafe Open throughout the afternoon selling uniquely designed Brixton Windmill products and freshly baked homemade cakes made with our very own flour. And lots more: Children’s baking workshops – hedgehog buns at 1.30pm and 3pm (max 8 children 7 to 12) £4 per child. Live music from Goblin Band, SELFolk and Casino Moon. untilFree event for adults and children in Windmill Gardens, SW2 5DA Sunday 11 August, 1pm to 5pm www.brixtonwindmill.org Get inspired by the natural beauty of Windmill Gardens at our annual Art in the Park event at Brixton Windmill. This year’s theme is “growth”. We have a range of free drop in workshops on offer throughout the afternoon suitable for adults, children and families working together. Workshops include pop-up cards, t-shirt painting, "drawing diversity", junk plants and making natural cord jewellery. Most activities are free, but donations for materials are always welcome. It is also possible to take a guided tour of Brixton Windmill during the afternoon, 1-5pm – last tour at 4.40pm. Book a tour here. A variety of delicious home made cakes and hot and cold drinks will be on sale as well as our colourful range of windmill merchandise, including T-shirts, mugs, tea towels and freshly milled wholemeal flour.

We’ll offer an inclusive range of activities for all including football, volley ball, fun races, games, Tai Chi and Zumba. A family show set on a paradise island where three local clowns will show you the ropes! (quite literally) and lead you on an adventure through the clouds! Escape to a paradise island, take a deep breath of the fresh sea air, and the panoramic mountain views – the stuff dreams are made of. Inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Dream Sequence takes a fresh look at the nature of dreaming, where aspirations, flights of fancy, and fond memories become reality (with the help of two friendly clouds!). This immersive, open-air family theatre show fuses together aerial circus, clowning and music to bring you an engaging visual spectacle that transcends generations, engaging for all ages and interactive. It’s for a small group so you’ll get lots of 1:1 tips and tuition. Includes lunch and the delicious bakes you make on the day. Session leader I’m Fabio, I was born in Venice and grew up in a house filled with seasonal food and meals made from scratch. Many years have passed since that memory but the one thing that hasn’t changed is my passion for food, tasty and flavourful homemade food. And to the cry of ‘no ready made stuff and fake flavours’, I’ve kept baking, cooking, and sharing my experiments with my family and friends.

untilJoin us on Easter Sunday for a family day in Windmill Gardens. We’ll be running a treasure hunt for children with a chocolate treat to find (£2 suggested donation) from 1.30pm. There’ll also be an Easter Bonnet competition with judging for best decorated headwear at 3.30pm. Free Easter themed craft workshops will run at the centre all afternoon. Our cafe and shop will be open and we are hoping for a sunny spring day to enjoy the park and windmill together. The windmill is open for guided tours from 1pm to 5pm so you could combine your visit with a tour if you like! Full tours are bookable via brixtonwindmill.org or shorter drop in tours are available on the day.
