  1. It?s a matter of personal choice and conscience. I exercised mine and boycotted them from day one. Strikes me of double-standards if people call for LL to maintain its character and then frequent places like this. I am not convinced that people can have it both ways. Ok, I am in a minority ? I recognise that. There are more worthwhile petitions to sign - try the Amnesty International greetings card campaign if people are that desperate to call for "justice". Much more worthwhile. They knew what they were doing by deliberately flouting planning laws - they pay lawyers vast amounts of money to ensure they get around regulations that the rest of us have to abide by. Sorry, I can't sympathise with their self-inficted predicament.
  2. Here are details of Christmas services at St John?s, Goose Green: Sunday 16th December: 10.am: Mass 11.30am: Children?s Nativity Pageant 6.00pm: Traditional Christmas celebration of Nine Lessons and Christmas Carols (by candlelight) Christmas Eve: 4.00pm: Christingle Service (suitable for younger children and families). Collection in aid of The Children?s Society. Last year nearly 1 million children and adults attended a Christingle event in the UK in aid of The Children's Society, raising a record breaking ?1,224,818. Everyone is welcome to join us this year and help to shine a light into the darkness of thousands of disadvantaged children's lives. 11pm: Carols 11.30pm: Midnight Mass Christmas Day: 10.00am: Family Mass
  3. No doubt about it, this is a good Forum. There are some great posts and it?s a mix of humour, information, fun and local gossip. There?s just one thing?maybe I?m alone in feeling this way. In any case, we?ll soon find out! Threads start, then frequently it all becomes a cosy chat among ?the regulars?, who all seem to know one another quite well and then very often the thread goes off subject and the regulars are left chatting away to themselves. When this happens, those of us not ?in the know? are caught between thinking: ?Oh, for pete?s sake?? and ?Best not interrupt a cosy chat.? Some very regulars appear to post on every conceivable subject. They have every right to do so although some are more witty and entertaining (and knowledgeable) than others! But maybe we could try this: if people don?t really know the facts e.g. what?s happening to the shop being renovated on LL ? maybe it would be best to wait and see if someone actually knows what?s happening, rather than the, by now, almost tedious, ?As long as it?s not another Foxtons??. Ok, ok, no one likes them! Anyhow, a thought. Sorry if this has upset anyone, particularly the real regulars, but I think it would improve the Forum and encourage less confident people to post. Having said all that, keep up the good work and thanks again.
  4. Anyone fretting about their Christmas turkey in mid November deserves to have a fistful of paxo stuffed down their throats, slammed in the cooker and basted every 30 minutes! Get a frozen one. Anyone worth sharing Christmas with is too sozzled to know the difference!
  5. No, lozzyloz, the two minute silence isn?t compulsory and I don?t think anyone was suggesting it was. It is however something called ?respect? and maybe an opportunity during the silence to value our freedom e.g. freedom of speech and to be able to write and post what we like on this Forum without being marched away in the middle of the night and never seen again. A freedom not enjoyed by millions worldwide. Just wanted to say to the bloke in Adys Road opposite St John?s who enjoyed having a loud conversation with his mate in the upstairs window during the silence yesterday, very thoughtful of you!
  6. The 11 o?clock silence on Rememberance Sunday is observed at the Calvary in the garden at St John?s Church, Goose Green following the 10am Mass (shortened service). Those from East Dulwich who fell in the World Wars are remembered and their names are read out and there are prayers and a hymn. The congregation come out of church and gather at the Calvary garden (the large crucifix by the Ady?s road gates) at about 10.50am. Everyone is welcome to attend. Churchwarden Stephen
  7. Hi - you and your daughter will be made welcome at St John's, Goose Green. Next Sunday (7th October) is Harvest Festival - family Mass starting at 10.30am. Alternatively there is a Children's Mass on the first Sunday of each month at 11.30am (next one will be 4th November) which would be ideal for your 5 year old daughter. To answer your question - yes, children must be accompanied to church and supervised throughout. St John's is child friendly - there is a creche; a Sunday school and a Family Quiet area at the back where children can sit and read with their parents/guardians. There are plenty of people available to help you and your daughter should you have any questions - look out for the Wardens' team and pastoral carers who wear red sashes. Lots of young families attend St John's; just turn up. Stephen Phillips Churchwarden, St John's, Goose Green.
