  1. I have had a quick look at the demo, in the same way that I decided to go to the millennium dome in order to be able to slag that off too. It's desperately dull with some of the clunkiest graphics and interface I've ever seen. I've briefly *ahem* been sucked into the likes of eve and world of warcraft, and whereas I understand that these too are desperately geeky, there is at least some sort of purpose, and and enjoyment in them. Why would anyone 'play' second life. If you want to set up a shop then do it down your high st, you might actually make some money, and your customers won't be strange avatars from the wrong side of the uncanny valley
  2. Well, we could be talking about the den out the back of Kebab and Wine a few doors further down Lordship Lane. It's not actually secret, nor strictly speaking a den as it is fully licensed, but you pay 10 pounds to get in, which converts into drink and food tokens, then you can buy wine or cans of beer until the wee hours of the morning. I've left at 5:30 recently and it was all still going strong. Once upon a time there even used to be belly dancing, but not seeen that for a while.
  3. I had heard rumours that the Nunhead fishmongers were opening a branch in East Dulwich which would be great. They suplply Franklins their fish and Oysters, and now I'm fully shuckered up, they suppply me too.
  4. Funny you should say that Huguenot. My girlfriend thought the newsreader said suvvark and went into near panic (not that she works in the industry or anything mind you).
  5. Talking of classless societies, 'Back to Basics Victorian Values' straight talking sense or desperate populist nonsense?
  6. That's all very well James, and I genuinely do agree with you. But 'should' doesn't get very far in Blair's ppp Britain where the shareholders and cost-cutting are everything, and where we're apparently customers, but noone gives a shit about us. And if you do commute from there you eventually have to work out it's not necessarily somebody else's problem ?
  7. Eww. Sorry about that Claire, what a start to the week. One minor point, isn't hearing from someone who heard from a taxi driver, somewhat akin to hearing from someone who heard it from a man down the pub with a wooden leg?
  8. It is pretty disgraceful. When I commuted from there rather than nice tidy *ahem* denmark hill, there was a voluntary group who would blitz the area every month, is it still going? If you're concerned Kate, maybe join up, it's only half an hour a month.
  9. The Crown & Greyhound (or The Dog) is a victim of it's own success, churning out that many roasts seems to have led to a drop in quality, particularly of the gravy which is watery and flavourless. I used to go 5 years ago but won't touch it unless I hear of some serious improvements. The EDT seems to have a perfect sinewave of quality over time. It has variously been bad and excellent and indifferent over the years as chef's change, waiting staff change and the place changes hads. It was excellent last time I went but that was 6 months ago, so gawd only knows what it's like now. Black Cherry is generally good, but I know the owners so perhaps I'm biased. I've found the Bishop to serve really bland food (the humous had literally no flavour, not even chickpea), though the staff are pretty good (well, during the day when they can actually move about the pub). So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to recommend other than my home cooking, with a nice cut of meat from the organic butchers. A nice curry I guess.
  10. I used to use the #37, agreed 30 minutes on a good day, but good day and #37 don't really go together. you can get the overland from denmark hill to clapham high street which takes about 3 minutes, and then its a short stroll to the cinema, much less stressful.
  11. @kk - you should try Buddha Jazz (terrible name I know) on Grove lane, other side of dog kennel hill by the george. It's an eastern fusion place with thai, vietnamese & japanese. very friendly and jolly nice. Yeah SE5, but not very far away.
