Have you considered joining the labour party, this seems to fit in with the sort of ill thought out nonsense that appeals to them and gets enshrined in legislation. Right I'm off to drink the housekeeping down the pub with the remote in one hand and the other scratching my balls while my good lady is chained to the sink and the hoover.
  2. Why the quotes batdog? Are you suggesting we don't really meet up and Andrew's just REALLY handy with photoshop, or ... err... actually I can't think of an or.
  3. I'd just like to say this thread is descending dangerously close to policism. I'd just like to state that I'm not policist, some of my best friends are rozzas. Couldn't actually name any but I did once meet a hobby-bobby. Shambles - "shall we abolish them?" I knew it, you're an anarchist agent from the Flunratian government trying to undermine our own fair democracy; go on, admit it!
  4. Quaywe, I won't but CC & Hugeunot & mark are, and I may be meeting up with at least a couple of them for a swift one straight afterwards if you're about. Keep meaning to check out the drum, but haven't gotten around to it.
  5. Just out of curiosity, what exactly do i do with a buddy list?
  6. Gosh PD, I'm rather impressed by that, although I'll cynically maintain a smidgeon of scepticism that CC was capable of sustaining much conversation about that ;-P *gasps for breath* I really need to write snappier sentences don't I.
  7. I'd like to like blue mountain, but they do make it awfully difficult. The best thing that could be said about the service is that it's charmingly .. err .. rural. Not everywhere has to worship at the god of american style service industry (have your product within 46 seconds with a fake 'have a nice day', or your money back) and I do sometimes like the more laid back approach, and am especially more forgiving when i leave london as the pace of life is often different. But having said all that BMC pushes the tolerance envelope too far even for little old me. And last time i was there it was 7 odd quid for a cooked breakfast that I'd be very hesitant to describe as value for money (though the snag (singular) was nice).
  8. That is indeed me, young DM. I'm finding myself doing the same, as I wander the nooks and crannies of east dulwich. I'll add some extra thanks to Andrew, great set, you even make me look passable!!
  9. sorry, couldn't resist What a good looking bunch forumites are! L-R CrystalClear, Shambles Georgia Bullock
  10. We could organise an action group, shall we say, meet at nero midday? ;) Talking of which, your presence and antipodean brand of invective were sorely missed at the meet last night.
  11. Hurrah, was going to PM you to make sure you were ok :) I'll second the thanks to Georgia, it was indeed lots of fun, and it was great to meet everybody who turned up, was bullied into coming (huguenot) or swung by on the offchance (Polly Dorner). I'm sure official documenter Andrew will post up a couple of snaps of us all looking squiffy soon.
  12. Coffe shops aren't really my cup of tea (you see what I did there, ho ho ho, god I'm funny) but it's a bit much to say a Nero has spelled the end of east dulwich. There's clearly a demand, it offers a decent service, the coffee's even pretty good (I'll occasionally dabble at the camden branch if I'm feeling a bit peaky in the morning, whyever that would be the case I cuoldn't say) and lastly it's british, not some horror of an evil corporation from the US. So carry on I say, better than an empty unit or yet another pub/bar, and we're pretty set for curry houses. We couuuuld do with another boutique of course ;)
  13. I've often wondered how on earth the Majetic business model has any chance of success, but succeed it certainly seems to do. I guess the new branch will be in more direct competition with the village oddbins than our own fair G&B (I gather the new bar is working a treat). Perhaps Southwark can lead the green revolution and lay on horse drawn omnibus service between East Dulwich and the village. We'll still have to plant a couple of trees to offset the horsies flatulent tendencies though.
  14. I'm all out of drung Huguenot, any chance you can drop some off a the weekend. Obviously I can give it up any time I want, but if I don't get any more I shan't be able to shwibble my fluppets.
  15. I stood behind some long haired idiot in the queue at Virgin, Camden a little while back. He was going on about writing songs that "are a little bit Manic Nirvana, a little bit Physical Graffiti" and all I could think of was "you tw*t". Then he turned around and it was Robert Plant. I almost apologised for even having thought those thoughts. He's still a bit of an idiot, but one of the greats and no denying!!
  16. Wood? Luxury, in my day...
  17. On a really really pedantic point a catalyst is a factor that stimulates a reaction or change of state. I don't think change itself can act like a catalyst. I'd say the deregulation of the banking industry was probably the catalyst that has brought about the change we're seeing in East Dulwich. Aaaaaanyway, on a slightly minor point, the Butcher's (I always forget its name) doesn't seem to me to be overpriced as their produce is a darn sight cheaper than Sainsbury's though I guess there is room to argue that I've hardly got a good cross section of outlets there;* mind you I'm not overly keen on some of the 'traditional' high street butchers I have up here in Camden?. If you want overpriced, go to Borough Market. *you see, you see, I can do it too. ?where I work, rather than live.
  18. Wow nice sidestep considering railtrack was essentially liquidated almost 5 years ago. This is going to end up being like that task for asterix and obelix to get a permit A-38 from the house that sends you mad!!
  19. incitatus, wow ride playing with the J&M Chain, it's like an all-star music recipe! (well, in my book at any rate) Nice :)
  20. But how good were Ride!? I used to watch them in the plinston hall in Letchworth (of which i whinge elsewhere today). Still have their early stuff on my non appley music thingy. I've taken the bassist from The Family Cat to a few of the pubs in ED.
  21. In these wonderful days of noone on the railways being responsible for anything as far as i can tell, the train companies bear always seem to sidestep responsibilty for the state of the stations, but at a pinch I think itlies somewhere between southern trains and network rail. Having just had a look at their websites which should win some sort of obfuscation awards (DAFTAs?) I can offer use these nuggets Network Rail 40 Melton Street London NW1 2EE Tel: 020 7557 8000 Fax: 020 7557 9000 [email protected] rubbish Southern Railways e-form http://www.southernrailway.com/contact.php I've used it in the past and only received automated responses bearing no relation to my question, you have been warned. What is it about wednesdays that make me acerbic?

  23. Well I grew up in Letchworth which was a sleepy little leafy suburban town full of nice but weird people, rundown shops shops, no good restaurants and 2 (rather violent) pubs and had tall trees. Now, 16 years later I find that it's an expensive sleepy little suburban town full of nice but weird people and commuters, little boutiques, has several substandard restaurants and about 7 pubs (only 2 of which are you likely to be beaten senseless in by resentful thugs i actually went to school with, who hate bloody blow-ins from london), a nice wine bar, and the tall trees have been chopped down to make way for landscaped nonsense. Spooky. So things change, Julie, I'm sure you'll adjust, why not come down to the EDT forum drink on saturday and find out that we're an ok bunch, even the ones who have a whiff of clapham about them.
  24. In all fairness you may have had some sort of caching issue, particularly if you're using the back button to get back to the homepage before moving on to another thread. Sheesh, I really need to get a life.
  25. According to Mercury Rev, "Mary Magdalene had it real bad". I've no idea what they meant, but perhaps they were referring to chocolate cravings. I seem to recall that Thor Heyerdal proved that the ancient Egyptians _might_ have discovered south america and put up big heads there *whatever*, so i guess they also _might_ have brought back chocolate with them, ultimately giving rise to the aforementioned craving. Of course CrystalClear has no need to worry, his own brand of belief in the saints fills us all with great pity and sympathy, so we shall turn a blind eye to his infractions.
