  1. On a Keef theme, has anyone else read a book about Jesus still being alive and a drug dealer down under. It was very entertaining, but I lent it to a girl I was trying to woo, who REALLY didn't like my friends at a party, and that was last I saw of girl and book. Wouldn't mind tracking that one down again (just the book, not the girl).
  2. TBH I'm a big sucker for anything John Carpenter during his purple patch which pretty much ended there Big Trouble in Little China (1986) Starman (1984) Christine (1983) The Thing (1982) Escape from New York (1981) The Fog (1980) Halloween (1978) Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) Dark Star (1974) a couple of iffy ones during that period - made for TV biopic of Elvis anyone? - and even Ridley Scott can have a GI Jane you know, but not a bad run I'd say.
  3. I'm loving everyone's confidence but I should probably point out that we haven't beaten Wigan at home since 2003 and have lost 3 of the last 4 home fixtures. We're much better on their turf.
  4. Alan Mooreis extraordinarily good. From Hell is so meticulously researched you begin to wonder if he has some esoteric knowledge regarding Jack the Ripper. Plus it has a picture of the half moon pub in it.
  5. Ooh pictures... Watchmen, From Hell, Cerebus the Aardvark, Akira, V for Vendetta, Sandman, Arkham Asylum, Persepolis.....
  6. shhhhh....I was joking
  7. Easy citizen, no need to defend it, it was just a discussion, loads of people think Big Trouble in Little China is terrible, doesn't stop me from loving it!!
  8. Cripes, congratulations. I got three A*s today, huzzah. Off to Neasden Poly (Formerly World of Carpets) I go :D
  9. Indeed benjaminty. Though in the early days it wasn't really there for mindless gossip, misinformation and porn was it; I was introduced to it at a geek's trade fair in 1995 at an IBM OS/2 Warp sales pitch, hmm, that must have gone well. Art [1.3] - railway sidings
  10. I went to watch the first LOTR film with Huguenot in Peckham. I seem to recall it was PG with extra caveats about some gore, violence and scenes upsetting to younger children and was quite specific in its advice not to bring children under 9. That didn't stop every parent of a six year old in Peckham bringing them to the film, which they all enjoyed while it was cutesy fireworks. Come the rolling heads and slavering orcs later though and it was a different story. I have to say the cacophony of bawling tears rather made us laugh, despite the din, but I'm sure there may be some psychological trauma tucked away in more than one or two of those children in years to come.
  11. Those whitey types, clearly genetically predisposed to be great swimmers. It's the scales or something, go on deny it you bl00dy PC brigade fascists, I dare you!!!
  12. Wow, rumour mill west am way is that Joey is looking for a season loan at his old club. Sounds a bit wishful thinking but there you go. Anton not signing new contract, but he's a tit so good riddance, not that we are exactly spoilt for choice at the moment in that position.
  13. What's to hate about joey? A bit dim, but nice lad. Doesn't suffer from too badly egomania, or lamparditis as it's now known (though gawd knows there were a plethora of proposed names for that one; bellamynia for the violent tendency variety).
  14. honaloochie worthy of the two ronnies.. "I've decided to put two films to a line to save space, and I'm sick of puntuation. The Cook The Thief His Wife And Her Lover On The Buses Carry On Screaming Carrie McCabe And Mrs Miller Driller Killer The Deep Heat I Spit On Your Grave Mrs Doubtfire"
  15. drugs drugs drugs drugs drugs
  16. "Deus Ex - which for a month or so I more or less regarded as a full-time job " Ha ha ha, yes, I think I was on the same pension plan.
  17. Keef did try to bump the top ten whatever thread, which was kind of a nice catchall, but come on, top ten's are fun, it brings out the list making geek in all of us. Top ten top tens? Films Kids TV Shows Albums Songs Comedy Moments Singers Actors Computer Games (elite, elite, elite, elite, elite, elite, tetris, elite, golden eye and elite) Footballers Goals
  18. Internet when you were 11 huh? No such thing when I was young, I had to go to the railway sidings like everyone else ;)
  19. "I'm always the boring one sending out links to snopes at work due to the various urban myth related emails." So was I yourmomma...until
  20. Well done on both counts sir (well, ma'am)
  21. I saw Batman last weekend. It was a bit meh to be honest, and though not really oscar worthy apart from being dead, Heath Ledger's Joker was far and away the highlight of the film, especially in that wig. I enjoyed the film, it's just within ten minutes of it finishing you can't really remember why you enjoyed it, and the next day you just can't really remember anything about it. Recent cinematic successes for me, I actually really enjoyed Wall-E despite myself, and Persepolis was bally excellent.
  22. Ooh, wasn't convinced by that Crash at all, if that's what *Bob*'s talking about then agree wholeheartedly with his summary. Paper-thin characters, totally lacking any subtlety, weak script. Admittedly some very good performances do help to paper over the cracks in the film, with a very big nod to Matt Dillon's policeman who somehow introduced the only genuinely human ambiguity into the film. Did I mention clich?d and manipulative? Oh god and why did nobody kill Sandra Bullock's character, if ever a role could irritate someone to death....
  23. shhhh chaps, please. There's David Simon's Iraq drama thing, hopefully that can help.
  24. Laughable as in funny? I love those films (though admittedly not especially scary)
  25. erewigo La Cabina. don't read too much as it's full of spoilers, but track it down if you can, here it is on youtube.
