Sadly, despite my ranting and raving about moral bankruptcy, it looks like it will be an autumn fixture in the mockney household. At least there's [the final series of] spooks to look forward to!

Talking of the difference between real music and manufactured music, I rather enjoyed this from Grace Dent's review of the latest X-Factor

I prefer it to White Chalk. It is beautiful but hard to listen to sometimes. I know what you mean about the Mercury, but it's better than the Brits!!!

Gin & Tonic is good in the autumn, and winter, and spring, and summer, and the other one.

Mind you has anyone tried a black velvet (guinness and champagne). I can't think of anything less deserving of the description cocktail, which implies that the flavours and textures blend to become greater than the sum of the parts. A black velvet tastes like some guinness with champagne poured in it, and I hasten to add, if it is not obvious, that this is not, I repeat, NOT a good thing.

points taken otta, though in fairness it's not the money i object to (it is over the top but if there aren't many people who can do what you do then I understand being paid a premium to attract you to a job) it's more the way they conduct themselves and regard themselves, and its a different football culture in Spain. For starters it's quite acceptable to be intelligent without acting like David James ;) Also there's a real sense of team spirit that the England setup would do well to learn from.Weirdly you don't hear liverpsain much from certain quarters anymore, mind you you don't hear anything from certain quarters any more.

I agree that sauces are an empty victory, but can't see what's wrong with pot roasting, even if it's to moisten turkey. That's like saying that slow roasting cheap cuts of meat is wrong because the quality of the meat is poor. After all lack of moisture is not intrinsic to the nature of a turkey, but to bunging it in an oven for 38 hours to cook the whole damn thing. Is suppose an interesting barding and tin foil combo (using it on the turkey, not wearing it on your head obviously) might work, I don't know, I've never actually tried cooking a turkey!!

Exactly, I don't think anything is being islamified. Sounds to me like a euphemism for areas having lots of muslims in it (read south asians), which is, I'm pretty sure, what's really upsetting them. Having a few sikhs among their number who are equally opposed to more pakistanis coming into the country doesn't mean they are not racist, just that they know how to take advantage of useful idiots. As SJ says the real enemy is extremism, in all it's guises as I'm sure norway can appreciate every bit as much as anyone who has suffered islamist terrorism.

Did anybody else find themselves rooting for Wales last night? I think my relationship with the England football team may be irretrievably broken down. Too many over-hyped underperforming years under Sven and Fabio with superego premiership tosspots. I think I preferred us when were enigmatically rubbish tbh, or am i being nostalgic for a "better time" that never really existed? Although I'm pretty sure the only thing Brooking and co will have ever roasted was a chicken on sunday.
