  1. Looks great, but very expensive!
  2. What's the best gym for women over 50 in ED? I really don't like the new leisure centre, there are almost no small weights, it's dark and unwelcoming. They have said they're increasing rates by 38%, too, though that remains lower than some. What are people's views and recommendations?

    wanted yoga bolster

Anyone doing a clearout? I'm looking for a yoga bolster. Thanks!
  4. So I wasn't intending to make this into a major issue, I want the shop to remain. I just found it curious. I occasionally walk my bike on the pavement to get between two shops, and wouldn't be able to do it through there, nor could I slip onto the road briefly if needed, which is a small issue not a big one. On Choumert, where they have had awnings in the past, there is no traffic, so it's easy to slip onto the road. But I've been put in my place! Live and let live. (And as an interesting point of comment, the people who told me that I should have better things to do with my time than complain about an awning clearly have a lot of time to spew unnecessary vitriol on EDF! Perhaps you should heed your own advice?)
  5. I noticed today when I tried to cross the road at the corner where Bora is that they have installed a fabric awning that is attached to the curb, covering up the pavement and blocking you from crossing the road here, so you have to effectively walk under a tent to get through them to the other side. I get that they want to protect their veg from the sun, but this seems a bit much! Is this allowed by the council?
  6. Where is open for dinner on a Monday evening that you would recommend? ED or surrounds. Thanks!
  7. Congratulations. Job well done. It'll take some getting used to, but what a great resource! As I understand it, this is entirely voluntary...but even if it isn't, its still to be applauded. I agree, people should be constructive in their criticism or suggestions, recognising that humans are behind this, and its a community resource. This is a unique asset, and I don't know of any other neighbourhood with a system quite as well organised and useful as this. There is Next Door, but that's commercial, and not nearly as useful. Thanks again for all your hard work.
  8. There is a really useful Facebook site offering advice and support to potential hosts (as well as enabling people from Ukraine to post requests). A lot of dialogue there on the process. https://www.facebook.com/groups/654051075885672/about
  9. Thanks everyone. Your advice was very helpful. We opted for a Samsung, which we got from Richer Sounds. Arrives tomorrow!
  10. It's been a long time since we bought a telly. And we're flummoxed. We don't want to spend a lot of money (200 - ?350), We're looking for 39 or 40" -- what used to be classified as large, which is now apparently considered small. It needs to be easy to set up and use, have Freeview and all the streaming apps, and OK sound/picture quality, and ideally with wifi. We don't use Alexa. Can anyone offer advice on brands? There's too much to choose from! What brand do you have? And do you like it?
  11. We insulated, and changed all of our windows, etc... And now have just installed a hot water tank, which we'll connect to solar power (Solar PV). So this means our gas consumption will just be for heat...total cost will be less than 2K (though my husband did some of the work himself), as we can use our existing combi boiler just for heat. Putting in a ground source pump wasn't feasible nor was an air source one as it would require lifting up all of the floors, and we have a small garden. But at least this plan will reduce our carbon footprint and our gas and electricity bills overall. You can also get solar thermal and not need solar PV.
  12. Does anyone have advice for walk-in options for a PCR test for pre-travel? Most of the ones I've seen say post it Monday-Friday, but I'm travelling on a Tuesday so that won't work with the 72 hour limit! Anywhere nearby I can walk in for a reasonable amount? I don't have a car. Thanks
  13. Hello! I'm starting a podcast -- basically an Agony Aunt for apathy. It will eventually source questions from the general public, but I need a few plants to help get it going, as I want 4 episodes pre-recorded before it launches. I need a couple of people who are concerned about a social or environmental issue, or even a local issue, but don't know where to start to do something about it. I already have a short-list of issues that I want to start with, but if you have another, I'm happy to look at it. Please DM me and I can send more info. Thanks!
  14. Our sweet cat "Fig" has gone missing. He doesn't go out at night and certainly not in the rain, and he rarely strays more than a couple of gardens from home. He's never even gone out front to cross the road. Please keep an eye out for him, or look in any sheds, particularly if you live in the triangle between Bellenden Rd, Soame street and Avondale rise. There is a similar cat in the area with blue eyes, its not him! He has amber/yellow eyes. He may respond to his name so do try calling.
  15. Yes, photos not working
