Nearly all car drivers think that which is why there are so many deaths on the roads. The Police and Govt laws focus their attention on the people who cause the most harm. That seems a sensible approach to me. If you go there you will find most car drivers breaking the speed limit. Why do car drivers think they are above the law? You think they are pants. But that is because your bigotry and hatred towards one particular group of road users has blinded you to any sense of reason or perspective. That is why you get so upset when people point it out. Personally I think the police get it about right.

I believe originally they were introduced for simple registration purposes as criminals were using cars to escape crime scenes rather than any specific road safety concerns. They do that now. For example they focus their resources on things like knife crime and robbery - not littering and trivial violations of the Highway Code. They use common sense in their decision making. Good honest British common sense. I know you hate that but - maybe Reform will win the next election - then perhaps the police will start allocating resources based on the wild witterings of bigoted trolls on chat forums. Until then I think you might be out of luck.

Do you think they have stopped car drivers from killing 1000s of people every year? Do you think it is acceptable that car drivers think they are above the law and kill and injure so many people? What do you think more should be done about that? I realise this thread is about cyclists but it would be interesting to get your perspective on other errant behaviour on the roads that is several orders of magnitude more dangerous and what you think should be done about that.

Police resources are limited and should be focused on where the greatest threat to public safety is - which on the roads is car drivers. As has been explained many times before - 90% car drivers break the law on a regular basis and when they do they genuinely cause a serious risk to other road users. The 1000s car drivers kill every year and 10,000s they seriously injure is undeniable proof of that. If you think number plates are the answer to errant cyclists- why hasn’t it worked with car drivers?

There is one in Honor Oak Rec in Camberwell New Cemetery.

If 85% of car drivers are regularly breaking the law and think they are above it - then it suggests they aren’t being caught and fined doesn’t it?
-
It starts with pedestrian walking down the middle of a cycle lane. So what do you think should happen to the 90% odd car drivers that break the law and think they are above it?

If you stand by one of those speed monitoring cameras for a while you’ll see the same thing. 90% over the limit. Southwark has speed monitoring stations all around and you can see consistent data there. The *average* car speed in 20 zones is 26 miles an hour. So I will ask again what do you think should be about car drivers widespread and persistent breaking of the law? And why do they think they are above the law?
-
Are you saying more should be done about 90% of motorists who break them?
-
You’re funny. Didn’t you move to Essex?
-
Sure. And this is just seeding. With the all the other law breaking it probably more like 90%+. https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2023/08/24/85-of-car-drivers-break-20mph-speed-limits-reveals-uks-department-for-transport/

So why do so many car drivers break rules? It is around 85%. What do you think should be done about that?

I have been there and cyclist/motorist behaviour is similar to here. You only have to walk around London for a few hours to see 1000s of car drivers breaking the law you may see one or two cyclists jump a red light. Besides I am not sure what you think your whinging about cyclists will achieve. The police base the targeting of their resources on minimising harm to the public not the views of a few anti cycling bigots on an internet forum. As 99% of deaths and injuries are caused by reckless car drivers that is always where their will focus be.
-
I saw a pedestrian ambling down the middle of the cycle path without a care in the world, then a pedestrian cross without looking, then I lost interest… Cyclists break the rules considerably less than other road users. So you should turn that question around. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7027809/amp/Cyclists-break-fewer-rules-road-motorists-Danish-study-finds.html

I would have no complaints about a small community driven music festival - but this is just an industrial horror show. Why do the walls need to be that high?
-
Yeah it was.
-
So you have no problem with road users ignoring the rules when they deem them unnecessary and it is safe to do so. Got it.
-
I saw 5 cars jumpings red lights today and about 30 speeding. One idiot in a white BMW weaving in and out of traffic nearly knocking down a mother pushing pram trying to cross the road. He didn’t even slow down for the ambulance coming the other way. The police do nothing of course.
-
Well you are complaining about road users who cause 0% of deaths and 2% of injuries on London roads. If you were genuinely worried about road safety you would post more consistently with the relative risk. Do you post 50 posts about car drivers breaking the rules, jumping red lights, driving on pavements, not stopping for pedestrians at junctions- for every one you whine about cyclists? If so you have my respect. Didn’t she move to Essex so she could run down children cycling to school without the middle class “man” getting on her back?
-
That is clearly not true. I see car drivers breaking the law on an hourly basis - jumping red lights, speeding, not obeying the general rules. Plus they are operating considerably more dangerous machinery and should have a greater responsibility of care to other road uses. You can see who causes the most harm by the stats.

GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation

I seem to remember it is quite straight forward - you just send them an email explicitly stating you are making a FOI request and who you are and say you want to see all the responses from the consultation. -

Yes I don’t see how condoning off a large section of a public space with giant wall can be described as “inclusive”. -
I just ordered my flu and Covid vax on the NHS app. It also tells if you are eligible. Various places are doing them.
