Cutting down of the Cherry Tree Peckham Rye Park
Hen123 replied to Hen123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I looked at the tree that they did cut down and there was some very minor fungal infection but tree wouldn't have been at risk for many years. Fugal infections are part of the natural life cycle of trees. Cutting trees down unnecessarily or prematurely isn’t a good use of council money or good for bio diversity in general. The risk of injury in parks is incredibly low - even the HSA accept this. These trees are not near buildings or parked cars - the paranoia about them is unwarranted. -

You can’t help but wonder how often this happens - chainsaws wielding “experts” hacking down the wrong tree in the name of health and safety and saving children’s lives? -

They said it had to come down in 2014 for the same reason. Still there. -

Why is it good? Do you hate trees? -

Some contractors are cutting down the beautiful cherry tree by the junction near Colyton Rd/Forest Hill Rd corner. The one they damaged for the Gala Festival. I don’t remember any signs up about it. There were a couple of locals trying to talk to them but the contractors became quite aggressive and threatening. -
Humming noise Camberwell Grove / DKH area

It could be this if other people aren’t hearing it. I heard it for a while and it was keeping me awake. Other people couldn’t hear it. I thought I was going mad. It has gone now - very weird. https://www.thehum.info -
I don’t make a big fuss about it. Cyclists aren’t in anyway a danger to the public in comparison to the danger other road users are. Would you like to spend two hours walking around East Dulwich with me so you can show me all these cyclists on the pavement?
-
I don’t even own a bike.

Motorists think they are above the law. Why else would so many break it? According to speed monitoring data the *average* speed of drivers in 20mph zone is 26mph. Why is that?
-
Exactly - it is an unspoken rule. South Dulwich isn’t allowed. It should be East Gipsy Hill or North Crystal Palace.
-
Look at the plan. The cycle track is easily wide enough to take an emergency vehicle.
-
Here on the Southwark website. Looks quite nice. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/improving-our-streets/live-projects/street-improvements/dulwich-streets-for-people Emergency vehicles are allowed on cycle lanes so not a problem. There is a slight bend in the cycle path but it is not too severe.

I have a few friends who have GoPros and recommend. Not the cheapest option though.

Here you are talking about motorists.
-
Erm, in case you hadn’t noticed, you brought up motorists.

Ok that say it all really. We are getting into 15 min city conspiracy land here. You realise vaccines actually work right? -
So why do so car drivers think they are above the law then? Over 90% break the speed limit on regular basis. Should the council start stencilling the roads around Dulwich explaining to drivers they need to keep to the speed limit and not kill as many pedestrians?

Such a shame the Odeon and bowling at Surrey Quays has gone

There is an AllStars at Shoreditch is quite good too. Easy to get to on the Overground line. -
Same. For over a week now. Feels similar to a my last Covid infection.

There is nothing wrong with complaining about things that are causing distress. Noise pollution can be a big problem for people. The restrictions they do have at Heathrow are because of public complaints. Ultimately it is balance between cost and convenience to travellers (and profit to the airlines) verses noise pollution to residents. You can see exactly which flights are causing the problem here: https://www.flightradar24.com/51.45,-0.08/11 It is nearly always in bound Heathrow flights. You can complain about specific flights here. https://www.heathrow.com/company/local-community/noise/what-you-can-do/make-a-complaint-about-noise There is more they can do reduce the noise. Staying higher for longer before descending; raising the threshold to fly in from the West; less queuing over London; changing braking patterns; reduce late night and early morning flights.

Ok I will meet you there for an hour and we can watch together.
-
FFS I will happily spend an hour with you walking around East Dulwich so you can show me these Lycra terrorists marauding it’s pavements.
-
You have called people who don’t agree with your vicious, bigoted, hate driven agenda - a cult, myopic, demonising. Get away. Look in a mirror.
-
You didn’t answer my question. Why do nearly all car drivers think they are above the law? The fact that you find it funny that car drivers kill so many people including children - makes it clear where your mind is and what kind of person you are. And that is often the excuse people whose views are driven by bigotry and hatred say when it gets pointed out.
