  1. The new square looks fantastic! Will encourage so many more to walk and cycle and visit the local businesses. I would never have done so before as the pollution and congestion was just miserable: I already find we are spending more in the local shops and enjoying the local community more as a result.
  2. Is it only LTNs in expensive post codes that you’ve a problem with? Are you ok with the ones reducing traffic in the estates then? I’d be angry about fumes outside my house too, perhaps you should ask for an LTN?
  3. Doesn’t the evidence suggest that LTNs lead to a reduction in crime? it’s weird how LTNs seem to be leaped upon every time there is an issue or a perceived issue. I don’t understand the visceral hatred of attempts to cut down traffic and the resultant pollution and the need to blame all societal ills on it. I suspect structural inequality or some form of trauma or other mental health issue is likely the cause of the ‘suspicious male’s’ criminality, assuming he was actually up to no good as asserted. The LTNs are heavenly! It’s so nice not to breathe in choked up fumes and listen to the swearing and horns that used to ring throughout court lane and calton ave at commuter peak times. It was absolutely awful to be in the village back then. people aren’t going to commit crime because the roads are more peaceful. They’ll commit crime because of any other number of social and economic factors, but I guess that’s a bit boring compared with finding any old excuse to bang the LTN drum again.
  4. Yes fair enough, hadn’t been in recent times and did always look very busy (although that would suggest LTN wasn’t an issue?) Why did it shut down so suddenly ?
  5. I didn’t - the first time I went they messed up my colour so badly by dying it neon yellow, they invited me back to ‘correct’ it and then made it even worse by putting black hair dye over the yellow. The cut was terrible too. I meant ‘over the years’ in the sense it happened years ago, but it put me off from ever returning and I wondered how it had kept going for so long. I also cannot imagine it’s the type of salon people would be driving from all over to visit. Also if the lease was forfeited due to subletting then that’s the reason, not LTN. People seem to be looking for any excuse to blame the LTN, but expecting us to forget what it was like before. Snarling, backed up traffic, fumes and angry swearing motorists. It was horrible to walk through the village, dangerous and polluted. I use that parade far more now that it’s peaceful and safe for my kids than I ever would have before the LTN.
  6. We need more good clothing / shopping units on LL, hopefully will be replaced with more desirable brands. A whistles, or jigsaw would be great!
  7. We once noticed a woman matching that description and a man stood watching a group of small toddlers in the park. They were without children and stood for ages just watching. When asked what they were doing they got aggressive and made a sharp exit.
  8. You could blame the LTN…but I think the frankly appalling hairdressing I experienced there over the years is more likely, including them dying my hair neon yellow then painting black over it to try to correct. It was horrific. Never understood how they kept going for so long.
  9. Dulwich village and can’t sleep for the noise!!? How is this allowed!?
  10. Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago… Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!)
  11. Anyone else received a cold call from this company pretending to be calling on behalf of EE? When I asked how they’d got my data they said ‘from East Dulwich forum’. I have contacted the Admin to find out whether EDF are selling our data to marketing companies or if they’ve been hacked. Alternatively the website is being scraped somehow. Just warning others in case anyone else receives a call- it’s a scam, do not engage with them 🙂
  12. That’s so great - yes I’d love if more of London followed suit so I could more confidently cycle. It has definitely boosted how much I use local businesses too - the ability to pop in to the local shops as I walk past makes it much more likely, and more pleasant to do so.
  13. I have lived on a road where displaced traffic is said to be an issue, but Interestingly I actually see the most anger towards LTNs coming from those living in them as they dislike the limits it places on driving through them and the increased time to their journey. I had read that recent study from Uni of Westminster that said the traffic displacement argument did not actually bear out in reality. I wonder if this research has been discussed here already ? Do people disagree with the findings ? I’m Not for one second suggesting it’s only parents that are pro LTN, it’s more that there’s a large number of people who cannot attend the meetings (for various reasons) and who also may wish to voice their support but feel nervous to do so in public because it’s such an emotive topic I wouldn’t want the councillors to read forums like this with so much vitriol circulating and not think that there is also plenty of quiet support that may be being drowned out through some of the noise.
  14. I find the vitriol around the LTNs so confusing. Aren’t the closures aimed at making roads safer, reducing car journeys overall across the borough, which benefits all, but most of all our children and future generations? Why does mild inconvenience trump our children’s health and future? And why does the topic cause such fury? Why aren’t people furious about climate change? Or at the very least, at those who still insist on unnecessary car travel which causes the traffic rather than the attempts to limit it? Or am I missing something? Genuinely not trying to be inflammatory (so please keep replies respectful) but no matter how much I try to follow the arguments I can’t seem to join the dots. Please no nasty responses as I am only curious about why the issue causes the extent of anger that it does - When so many like me are the totally opposite picture and enjoy the reduced traffic that the LTNs have brought. I want the councillors to know there are many more like me who only see the benefits and are immensely grateful we can walk our children to school without the snarling traffic and beeping horns and screaming and fumes that used to exist before. I would personally be devastated if that returned. The problem with the vitriol is that people who share this opinion (many are parents) do not want to antagonise our community by putting our head above the parapet - especially as we are too busy working or looking after children to make the council meetings to show support. It makes it then seem that this is a scheme that has been ‘done’ to the people without support- but many people do support LTNs and can’t be seen to agree with it for fear of upsetting those who are so emotionally invested. Really not intending to cause anger or upset, just to ask questions and provide some balance and a reminder it’s not just the loudest voices that should be heard.
