  1. I'd have a chat with the midwife. Maybe start your maternity leave earlier than you had planned? Travelling when pregnant is horrible! And so tiring. I think you might need more rest! Already having one child, it's not as though you can just come home from the office and put your feet up!
  2. I can't see why the deeper life bible church isn't obliged to do something about it.
  3. Werdna101 - My husband was looking to buy a white shirt (to wear under a suit) recently. He was convinced there would be a shop on Lordship Lane which would have one! He got one in Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill in the end - not the best shirt ever, but good for the purpose and very reasonably priced. I would guess that people who work in the City buy their shirts up there, not locally. There is White Stuff for casual men's clothes.
  4. Have sent you one back.
  5. I have quite a lot of clothes that my son has grown out of, some have had very little use and it seems a waste to throw them away. I hear that charity shops get a bit swamped with children's stuff. Does anyone know of anywhere that is looking for baby / toddler clothes? Thanks.
  6. I don't think people should feel afraid to sack someone who is not doing what they said they would do at the interview. Someone who is being sacked for poor performance should be told just that. All this fear of being sued is just silly. Pay her till the end of the week.
  7. That's a huge amount of time to have off sick. She sounds flakey. If she had a genuine health problem she would have told you about it by now. An unreliable nanny is no use to you. I'd sack her. She won't try and claim unfair dismissal after only three months, especially when she must be aware that she has had too much time off. Did she give you references when you employed her?
  8. I think local cinemas are a great idea!
  9. Have you been to have a look around yet? That would probably give you the best idea.
  10. ... anyone else been woken up?
  11. Beware the au pair route. I'm looking at the same problem and giving up work seems to be the most cost-effective solution, to be honest.
  12. Yes, you would be responsible for maternity pay, and you would have to employ someone else to look after your children while your nanny was away, but I don't know about the rebate situation. What I like about childminders is that they are self-employed, so you don't have to worry about any costs which might arise. But then it is difficult to get small children out of the house in the morning and delivered to the childminder, so I fully understand the appeal of having a nanny!
  13. Hi Sophie It would be nice to know a little more about the campaign you are running, your aims and objectives? Is the questionnaire anonymous? And as students which establishment are you attached to? Fliss
  14. I can't see any sinister undertones to tor's post, I think she just means that as a longstanding taxpayer she expects something in return. Fair enough, I would say?
  15. Dulwichmum - as Sian said, your view is prejudiced and ill-informed.
  16. Enough with the Church-bashing! We're having rather a lot of it these days and it's getting boooring!
  17. If we don't get our choices, will we be allowed to know why and on what grounds? Surely, under the Freedom of Information Act (2000), we should have access to this information?
  18. Outrageous. As Dulwichmum says, if she doesn't mind me quoting her, Peckham is not for everyone!
  19. Which schools are closing?
  20. Well just have a little drink with Mic Mac, and happy St George's Day to you...!
  21. hpsaucey, I have since spoken to Lewisham and was told that Southwark and Lewisham have shared no information so far, so you can get offered places by both councils. I told the woman I spoke to at Lewisham that I had spoken to Southwark and didn't really get an answer, and she said that when you phone Southwark you get put through to a call centre not the actual department, so the person you speak to might not know. How rubbish is that???? And yes Rhubard, I agree with you completely, the blurb that these people are putting out makes no sense at all.
  22. I rang Lewisham, they are much more together than Southwark, and their website is better, too! I was told that Southwark and Lewisham have not exchanged information yet, so it is now a matter of waiting for 10 May, and no need to panic yet. I suspect a lot of people are going to ignore the 5 May deadline until they hear from Southwark on 10 May....?
  23. A lot of people who live near the Southwark/Lewisham border have applied to schools in both boroughs. Lewisham published their offers yesterday, any offers need to be accepted or declined by 5 May. Southwark won't publish their offers until 10 May. So - if you were offered a place in Lewisham does that mean you won't get offered a place in Southwark? Or could you get an offer from both boroughs? If would be very useful to know. I did phone Southwark Admissions to ask them but unfortunately am none the wiser (I don't think the person I spoke to knew).
