I found the bag hidden behind some bags of leaves in my garden. I assume it's stolen as I believe people who steal bags will run round the corner, take the wallet or anything valuable and then dump the bag. The bag contains personal effects including a pair of glasses in a case. It contains a copy of the Evening Standard dated 21 September, which I guess is when the theft happened. It also contains a library book and a Southwark Presents card with the owner's name on it. She is called Rathna Ali. Does anyone know her? I would like to be able to get it back to her, as I know from personal experience that having your handbag stolen is just horrible!

House of Tippler- another Covid casualty

I know the Co-op is a supermarket and not a bar, but does anyone know what's happening there? It looks like it's either having a refurb or closing altogether.... -
I watched some of it last night and thought how well it has withstood the test of time... vintage comedy... only the best writing survives. I went to bed before the end though, because the end of that episode always makes me cry.

Flocker Spotter said: "it died out as it is in a terrible location and cannot economically justify being a food and drink outlet - no one with any sense would trek up to this polluted wasteland for a night out." Not true! It "died out" when it ceased to be a Harvester and the salad bar disappeared. The bar area was much smaller than the restaurant, but it was a really good family place to go where you could have a good meal at a reasonable price. When Harvester gave it up, everybody was asking "Where has the salad bar gone?" - the new pub co didn't advertise the fact it was no longer a Harvester so no one knew! No one else seemed to be able to make a go of it. The new pub co couldn't put prices up for the same style of food, they failed to notice how much the salad bar was missed (and I can't imagine it was expensive to provide) plus the rent was too high and then there was a fire in the kitchen and it closed down. Lots of people live here on the border of East Dulwich within a stone's throw of the Grove (including myself) and it was the only pub/restaurant on our doorstep so I disagree that the location is terrible. As EDOldie points out, there has been a pub on that site for hundreds of years. And I read somewhere that on the same site used to be a school attended by a very young George Gordon Byron! Now my closest pub is the Capitol in Forest Hill, which I am not keen on. There is the Plough, which I think is a pretty decent pub. The food is a little over-elaborate and therefore over-priced (what's wrong with a cheese roll or a pork pie?) but the atmosphere is good and it has a lovely beer garden.

Cody is 16 months old and is a much loved family pet. He has been missing from the Lordship Lane end of Underhill Road since Sunday, 7 January. He is an indoor/outdoor cat and often wanders off for a few hours but has never been away so long! We are very worried. If you have seen him, please get in touch. 07793 155942 Felicity

Car smash at junction of lordship lane and overhill road
Fliss replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whoops, I was forgetting Overhill Road is one way! (Don't drive, you see...) I don't know which way the car was coming as I didn't see it happen. Hoping everyone involved is okay. And yes, I have been bemused by that cycle lane..... can't imaging how two way for cyclists is going to work..... -
Car smash at junction of lordship lane and overhill road
Fliss replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was walking my son to school this morning, and we got there a few minutes after it had happened. I think a car had pulled out of Overhill Road and a van travelling in the Forest Hill direction hit it. The car was in the middle of the road and the bonnet was all caved in, and the van was on the pavement where the railings are (were), I'm not sure if it hit the wall. Thankfully (miraculously) it looked as though no one was hurt, but it could have been so much worse!!! We walk that way every school day, and it never feels very safe - so much traffic and such narrow pavements. -
I thought Sorsi e Morsi was excellent, and I am very sorry to see it go. The ambiance was very pleasant, the food was delicious, proper authentic Italian and the waiters were great.

Gosh, I wonder what help could be "appropriate". And I think you'll find that unless a crime is being committed, it's not a police matter. -

I agree with Sue. You could go and ask them (yes, just go up and ask them) if they are all right. -
I did wonder why a 12 came up Denmark Hill with "Camberwell" on the front. I agree, sad times.....

I agree with you James, and prefer purpose built for the same reasons! I looked at a 2 bed flat in Norman Court about 2 and a half years ago, but it would have been a bit small for us (2 adults and a child) and we managed to find a flat in a purpose build block with a garage for storage. I think a flat at the front of Norman Court might be a bit noisy. I'm not sure how many flats there are in the block, as there is another part behind. The garden was a bit neglected when I looked. I wonder what the service charges are like. Also it does seem relatively cheap, considering how (ridiculously) expensive everything else in the area is now - there must be a reason...

Accident in East Dulwich Road ( February 23 2012)
Fliss replied to woodycheese's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No benmorg, she wasn't blaming the victim in this case, she was just saying that people tend to assume it's careless drivers who cause this type of accident, whereas if fact some pedestrians are pretty careless, too. She wasn't blaming anyone, and she was speaking generally, not suggesting anything about this particular case. To me she sounds like a very careful and responsible driver who goes in fear of having such an accident despite her best efforts to be aware of everything happening on the road in front of her. -

I don't think sweetgirl's post was tactless or inappropriate. As a driver she spends more time than most on the roads, and she is simply highlighting the fact that busy city roads are very dangerous, pedestrians aren't always aware of what it's like for drivers of vehicles as road users, and as a parent I couldn't agree more that we have to train our children from a very young age to be traffic-aware and be safe as pedestrians. -
I would have done the same as you. Unfortunately they were horrible kids. On the whole, I find the older children are very careful of the little ones. You had an unlucky experience. Edited to say: This wasn't this morning, was it? If so, those kids should have been in school. There must be a truant officer somewhere at the Council! You could have reported them!
