  1. If you believe your hypothesis is valid, pray tell why the operators keep on submitting Planning Applications for the masts? Here's the latest application to get refused 23/AP/3268 | Prior Approval notification for proposed base station, installation of a 20-metre high monopole supporting 6no. antennas and 1no. 300mm transmission dish, the installation of 3no. equipment cabinets and ancillary development on east side of Dulwich Village (opposite its junction with Turney Road). | Land At Dulwich Village (Opposite Its Junction With Turney Road) London SE21 7BN (southwark.gov.uk) and another... 21/AP/2121 | Prior approval notification for the installation of an 18.0m Phase 8 Monopole C/W wrapround Cabinet at base and associated ancillary works. | Dulwich Common Dulwich London SE21 7ER (southwark.gov.uk)
  2. Several applications have been submitted for the erection of a new cell phone masts over the years. All have been objected to by a vocal minority and so we all have to suffer very poor reception. So until the Nimbys relent, it isn't going to improve. In fact, for those on 5g it will get worse as the 5G signal is less capable than 4G in terms of penetrating walls of houses.
  3. Let's have your suggestions for alternative usage.

  5. Do you actually know the basis on which JAGS "employs" ( as you state) or contracts out the services of "accountants, marketing people, maintenance people, security people, operations and contracts managers and a bunch of other people outside its core competence of education"? OR are you just speculating? If JAGS utilises a contractor to provide cleaning services then the responsibilities for the terms of employment of the individual cleaners is the contractors responsibilities. End of...

  7. Yes , there has been much talk about prison overcrowding in the political agenda recently but thereality is somewaht different and the UK comes out quite well by comparison with other countries, Germany Occupancy Rate: Approximately 85% to 95% Notes: Generally considered to have a well-regulated prison system, though some regions face higher occupancy rates. Turkey Occupancy Rate: Approximately 120% to 130% Notes: Turkey has faced significant overcrowding issues, especially following the 2016 coup attempt. France Occupancy Rate: Approximately 115% to 120% Notes: Overcrowding is a notable issue, particularly in remand centers (pre-trial detention). Italy Occupancy Rate: Approximately 110% to 115% Notes: Italy frequently deals with prison overcrowding, leading to ongoing legal and human rights challenges. Spain Occupancy Rate: Approximately 70% to 80% Notes: Spain's prison population has decreased in recent years, leading to less overcrowding. Ukraine Occupancy Rate: Approximately 60% to 70% Notes: Despite harsh conditions, Ukraine's occupancy rate is relatively low compared to its capacity. Poland Occupancy Rate: Approximately 85% to 95% Notes: Poland has faced challenges with overcrowding, but reforms are underway. Romania Occupancy Rate: Approximately 110% to 120% Notes: Romania has significant issues with overcrowding and prison conditions, leading to multiple rulings by the European Court of Human Rights. Ukraine with its harsh conditions could be low because they have offered convicts the chance for release if the join the army to fight against Russia - just as Russia has done with their convicts.
  8. The previous government was also very aware of the issues and have funded an expansion of the prison estate during their tenure. Here is a list of the major developments that have been made or are in progress:- · HMP Five Wells: Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire Opened: February 2022 Details: This is a Category C resettlement prison, with modern facilities designed to aid in the rehabilitation of offenders. · HMP Fosse Way: Location: Glen Parva, Leicestershire Under Construction: Expected completion in 2024 Details: This is another Category C resettlement prison, built on the site of the former HMP Glen Parva. It aims to provide enhanced rehabilitation services. · HMP Full Sutton (expansion): Location: East Riding of Yorkshire Under Construction: Expected completion in the mid-2020s Details: This project involves the expansion of the existing HMP Full Sutton facility to increase its capacity. · HMP Garth (expansion): Location: Lancashire Under Construction: Expected completion in the mid-2020s Details: Similar to HMP Full Sutton, this project aims to expand the existing facilities to accommodate more prisoners. · HMP Millsike: Location: Near Full Sutton, East Yorkshire Under Construction: Expected completion in the mid-2020s Details: This new facility is planned to increase prison capacity in the region and provide modern rehabilitation services.
  9. How can you say that if you are not party to the contractual arrangements between the school and Krys.?
  10. In all probability a proper legal contract is/was in operation regarding usage of the facilities. This would have clearly established the arrangements for termination by either party, Such a contract would not normally stipulate that a reason be given for termination by either party. Similarly, the period of notice and the method of serving that notice will have been clearly stated. There has been no mention that Alleyns has breached the terms of the contract. In the unlikely event of the contract being published, then we can all speculate as much as we want but in the end a contract is a contract Termination is certainly a blow to Krys and we all sympathise. It also creates a degree of uncertainty for members of the swimming club but , at this stage, none of us know what the future will bring. Let's see what the future brings.
  11. @DadOf4 You certainly feel very strongly about this but the reality is that none of us, outside Krys/Margaret and Alleyns ,are party to the facts. Until we know the facts then it may be inappropriate to heap opprobrium on Alleyns. Have you talked to Krys/Margaret? Are you acquainted with the contractual details of the business arrangement between them and Alleyns? If there has been a breach of contract then this can best be resolved by legal process. As none of us here are party to the contract details, and recent discussions ,then it unfair to castigate Alleyns unfairly.
  12. There is no direct link between charitable status and VAT Free status however when VAT on fees come in, Alleyns will be registerd for vAT and will collect the tax on fees. Being registered for VAT , they will have to charge VAT on any other chargeable services they provide, such as for Tigersharks. The VAT on fees will be offset to a very small extent by reclaiming VAT on the costs of services and goods they incur. This will be miniscule as the bulk of their costs will be staff salaries. To offset the effects of VAT on fees, Alleyns will probably have to cut back on costs and this is where they may have to cut back on the charitable aspects of what they are involved with in the community. In some cases they may be faced with charging fees in the future for services and support which are currently free.
  13. The way it seems is that the elephant in the room here is upcoming liability to VAT. To qualify for charity status, Alleyns was obliged to provide a wide variety of support to the wider community. Imposing VAT means the community obligation can be dispensed with . Should the Tigersharks access be continued then they will be liable to VAT at 20%. As to the other support that Alleys provides, then its up to them to decide whether they continue with it or whether they charge. Imposing VAT on private education will certainly have a wide range of unintended consequences.
  14. Alleyns would most probably have based their decision on regular participation numbers by Tigersharks . You have mentioned a "group of 150 swimmers" but it might help if you can accurately quantify the regular attendance numbers. My understanding is that the regular participation is significantly less.

  18. You are correct. Please read my post which proves that VAT is not charged in most EU countries.
  19. Charging VAT on private schools is totally out of step with other countries in Europe. Here is picture in the Europe:- . Germany: Private education fees are usually exempt from VAT. France: Private education fees are typically exempt from VAT, especially if the institution is recognized by the state. Spain: Private education services provided by recognized educational establishments are exempt from VAT. Italy: Educational services provided by recognized institutions are exempt from VAT. Netherlands: Private education services are exempt from VAT if the institution is recognized by the government. Belgium: Educational services provided by recognized institutions are exempt from VAT. Sweden: Private education is generally exempt from VAT. Denmark: Most educational services are exempt from VAT, but there are exceptions depending on the type of service. Ireland: Private education fees are exempt from VAT. Portugal: Private education is generally exempt from VAT. Austria: Private education services are generally exempt from VAT if they are recognized by the state. Finland: Private education services are exempt from VAT if they are provided by recognized institutions. Norway: Although not an EU member, Norway exempts private education services from VAT. Make of that as you may!

  21. Presumably the perps reckon that high value vehicles will be more likely to be insured however in the UK only 4% of drivers are not insured so even my 20 year old jalopy might be vulnerable. Because of its age and the fact I never wash it means it is not in any way attractive to malcontents. So stay safe and never wash your car -just let the growth of green algae take over.

  23. I sympathise with the Council because if they make it too difficult or expensive to dispose of waste from vans then the amount of fly tipping increases. Limiting access to four vans per year also increases the potential for fly tipping. I would suggest having a charging system based on ANPR identification for vans. If there's usually no queue between 10am to 3pm on weekdays, then vans could be charged a reduced (modest) rate during that time slot and charged a higher rate outside those times. And the higher rate for more than 4 trips in a year. Forget the requirement to book in advance.
