Sure, ChatGPT never ceases to amaze.

Why not have a chicane type barrier in the cycle lane either side of a pedestrian crossing so that these cyclists have to dismount rather than mow down pedestrians. That or speed bumps or corrugations to make the cyclists more aware of danger.

Had a green woodpecker visit our back garden this morning. Appeared to be eating ants or ant larvae.

Yes, been on several over the last 12 years. They are one of the safest planes ever built. The Dreamliner has been in service since 2011 and currently about 1,150 are in operation every day. Safe as houses.

Using the smart CCTV cameras is your best strategy - particularly if they have adequate infra-red capability. Setting them to be triggered by line crossing or areas of intrusion is worthwhile setting up as is linking them to a PIR sensor. The PIR could also be used to activate a sounder but that might upset your other neighbours. I have a few cameras around our property and I enjoy reviewing the recordings and apart from foxes and birds, I catch the occasional opportunistic thief on camera - like this one last Tuesday. If you need any help, please drop me a PM. S7.mp4

No pond, so I guess it was after slugs or worms. It was certainly pecking at something in the grass

Had a heron come into our back garden early this morning.

It's been suggested that he may be on drugs because some like ecstasy makes one thirsty. Was that why he stole the bottle of water? But what is strange is that he went in via the front door and reached in towards the rear. He then tilted the rear seat backrests forward so that he could reach right into the back. He did this rather than open a rear or the rear hatch. Go figure! It's my wife's car and she says she always, I RPT, always locks it. Incidentally, our neighbour no longer locks his car because he has had a side window smashed twice now because of thieves breaking in.

As nothing appears to have been taken, apart from a bottle of water, the police probably would not be interested taking prints. But the clothing is quite distinctive and combined with the fact that it is white, male, brown hair, medium build. Not a professional I guess as most thieves go out with a back pack to carry a couple of tools and also into which they can store their loot

At 00.56am on Tuesday this scrote was filmed entering our car. He had a face mask and all dark clothing however the clothing had certain distinguishing features. Perhaps someone can identify the writing on the jacket and trousers. See video clip below Pleased to say he went away empty handed as we leave nothing of any value in the car.

Looking for a short length of electric (twin & earth) lighting cable. Most likely there could be some in a skip near you??
-
I'd second that.

Electrical work can be dangerous, and hiring an unqualified individual can put you and your family at risk. and negate your insurance. A qualified electrician has the training and experience to safely handle any electrical issues, reducing the likelihood of accidents or injuries. With the exception of simple tasks, it is illegal for anyone other than a licensed electrician to perform electrical work. Hiring a qualified electrician ensures that the work is done in compliance with local laws and building codes. Some electricians are being recommended on EDF but here is no indication that they registered with NICEIC or NAPIT. One is well advised to steer clear of Check-a-Trade which is a marketing service funded by subscription.

My car is even older and I also only keep the tank half full because if someone siphons it, the maximum I loose is half.
-
I'd be tempted to put up some sort of fence to delineate the area and see what happens. Probably nothing.

Looking for books on the above wars - preferably first person accounts.

I thoroughly recommend Jay from JK Electrical Contractors who is an NICEIC registered. NICEIC is the UK's leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry and conducts regular audits and assessments on all its members. It is the specialist trade body which certifies professional electricians. He is not listed on Check-a Trade which in my view is nothing more than a dubious operation which charges tradesmen a fee for listing their details. They make no checks on "members". Avoid Check-a-Trade however desperate you may be. Jay initially carried out an EIRC and then completed the installation of a 19 way consumer unit for us and works to the highest standards and our entire electrical installation is now fully compliant with 18th Edition of the electrical wiring regulations. Before installing the new CU he traced and corrected faults that had developed over the last 25 years -some of which were my DIY bodges that were non-compliant. We now have an installation that is 100% safe and reliable . Safety and reliability is crucially important if you need an EIRC report done - especially if it is a for a rental property- where the landlord becomes liable if anything goes wrong. His contact details are :- 0208 150 6450 info@jkec.net Here is what he installed for us.

Pavement widening outside M&S nr East Dulwich station...
vladi replied to EDmummy101's topic in Roads & Transport
Did you actually see it happen? I ask because the evidence in the photo suggests that all the cones and green barriers appear to be pushed over from the left to the right -possibly by a pedestrian. They would have been used to cordon off the area on the left where materials are being stored. The cones and green barriers are also in are all in a straight line whereas if they were rammed by a car then they would have been scattered randomly more to the left. -
Before using an ATM, I always look around and see if there any likely opportunists hanging around. If there is, I just walk away and observe from close by. At the ATM, I always cup my left hand over the key pad when entering the pin with my right. I then have one hand ready to collect the cash and the other over the card slot.
