  1. We stayed at the hotel last year - it rocked. Smallish swimming pool great games area, good unlimited buffet, endless ice cream, 2 days in park including early entry. Otherwise Q bot and own food and ponchos. Have fun
  2. Perhaps speak to the governers/head about putting on more classes, offer to canvass level of parental support (in conjunction with PTA) or do a share with another parent? They take yours to an after school activity you take theirs to a Saturday one?
  3. My children do loads of the after school activities run by their school, they are taken from the classroom to the activity by the staff and if I'm unable to collect they go on to the after school club. Starting after school activities on site at 4 is ridiculous and there must be loads of people whose children miss out as a result. If I were you I'd raise it with the head and governers
  4. Sounds like Harris primary is going to be a blessing for lots of people, well done to those who pressed for it (James Barber i think!) It is hard for a new school to compete for parents attention with more established schools so the noises in this thread from those who are keen to get behind it is brilliant news. Is it anticipated to be a feeder school for the local Harris secondaries? When the dust has settled and parents have accepted offers that they are happy with (this will happen!) can I encourager them to think about the need to get a new secondary school up and running (see separate thread in family room)
  5. I doubt that the PTA will know that info at least not whilst the school is closed for Easter. Do suggest your friends find out where they are on the waiting list and sit tight, there will be movement, there always is. Welcome to GG it's a super school and you and your little one will love it (mine are in Y2 and Y4 but I remember reception class often and fondly!)
  6. I'm on the steering group I am not politically motivated I believe that we need another secondary school. I would be happy for my children to attend Charter I would be happy for my children to attend Habs I would be over the moon to have a choice I do not believe that we are telling anyone that they have to do anything, it's clearly a matter for the DoE who, if anyone they approve and a matter for individuals which school or indeed schools, if any, they support. I support state education I hate sherry
  7. Thank you for your prompt response Derek but I remain unclear - I think that you are saying that you would consider a different admission criteria for any new site but would you consider changing the current admission criteria to the existing school?
  8. Derek, Does it follow that you would consider one admission criteria for the original site and a different one for a new site (around the corner)? And conversely would you change the admission criteria for the original site?
  9. I saw a woman walking down Worlingham Road last week about 10am opening the gate to each house and having a look through the green bins.
  10. Bornagain do you know that it is not needed despite the explosion of need in 2009 and more people moving into the area and less leaving? or is that just your guess? Based on what? This is about places, there won't be enough, so new places needed. If that means building a new school then best build one that caters to the maximum number ie non faith and co ed.
  11. In 2009 the local authority had totally failed to plan for the rising birth rate and there were an awful lot of families with no school place. We obtained a place for our son at Goose Green (a local school that was in special measures and traditionally overlooked) that year even the special measures school was oversubscribed and people living in ED were on waiting lists for it for some time. Since then there bulge classes have been necessary every year (that's 5 years of bulges - so far) I have been very concerned that no planning was taking place for accommodating those children in secondary. The fact there is space available now is irrelevant, there hadn't been a problem pre 2009 then suddenly there was and has been since. So please don't tell me that I am a snob who doesn't want my kid to go to a non middle class school (in any event banding is designed to make an intake comprehensive and most schools deploy that). However it so happens I don't want my dyspraxic son to have to take a trip across town every day, that has nothing to do with snobbery either. Personally I am delighted that there is some pre planning about provision and that there is a real possibility that a local non faith co ed school that my children could walk to might happen. I suspect that I am not alone but many are put off saying so by the suggestion that they are snobs or racists when in fact they, like me, know that there is an imminent dearth of places. I support the campaign. For the sake of transparency I am also part of the steering group. I'm also not anti Harris (quite the opposite I have looked around Harris boys and loved it) but I seriously doubt that my son would secure a place and, not unreasonably I believe, would like my son and daughter to go to the same school. This has to be up and running by Sept 2016. Obviously people are entitled to their ideological objections but I believe that I speak from an informed position when I say that there will be a need for these extra places in 2016 and "wait and see" really isn't an option.
  12. Also note it is not merely a Shakespeare character but your favourite Shakespeare character - not sure my son was aware he had a fave! He's wearing his skull onesie - Yorick. Other possibilities included Bottom (there was an unsurprising objection to this) or Julius Ceaser (bit parky for bare legs)
  13. We've got a Shakespeare theme so think yourself lucky!
  14. Emailed SNT and they said they would do a patrol on Worlingham and surrounds. Can't hurt to let them know where these things are happening so I encourage others to do the same. Phone and email details in the local info section on the front page of the forum.
  15. A number of cars on Worlingham Road had air let out from their tyres overnight. Including my elderly ma who was pretty upset about it. Little tossers. I have told the safer neighbourhood team but don't feel any sense of real anticipation that it will result in action.
  16. Have you considered asking the heads of the local primary schools for their views or assistance in bringing your campaign to people's attention? I appreciate that they cannot be seen necessarily to endorse a particular political party but they have a genuine interest in seeing their pupils happily off to a local school. Perhaps your campaign could distribute leaflets outside of school at pick up/drop off times, ask to put leaflet in school reception/notice boards/book bags. See if primary schools willing to put something in their newsletters/emails or texts to parents. Every Y4 parent I know is anxious about secondary school places, I am very surprised that you have only a moderate degree of interest. I'm sure that can be increased with a push.
  17. I did some work in Lewes last year it is a lovely town but by 9pm the streets bars and restaurants are deserted. It was booooring!
  18. I get this too and find that sitting on the side of the bath running freezing cold water over my legs is the cheap option but there are various leg gels out there which are pretty good at making the legs cold which helps me sleep. My current favourite which is rather expensive is Mary Cohr which I get through www.beautyexpert.co.uk
  19. We love the service it always kickstarts our Christmas and reminds us what a gem of a community we have. Maybe 2 services would work but for me it wasn't the numbers that irked, quite the opposite, but as Mrs TP says - crowd control - I found some of the rampaging a little too indulgent (bordering on the disrespectful). Maybe I'm just an old grump - bah humbug!
  20. No that's the right number - just tried it myself.
  21. Oh I loved the carols on the Green and the mulled wine last year, we'll be there.
  22. I may have many failings as a parent but seriously that hasn't included allowing them to take drugs - I'm sure there is a happening subversive culture in Essouraoria but we remained blissfully unaware. Enjoy Edited to add - except for medised which we were very fond of back in the day!
  23. Ah that will explain why it was such a great holiday ..........
  24. We went when my children were a similar age and had a great time just hanging out on the beach and in the souks. I was worried about the famous wind but it was fine and the hawkers on the beach sell little cakes which was odd but cute. We went with fleewinter and stayed in the most beautiful riad. The children hated Marrakesh on the other hand, maybe too hectic for them
  25. I have children in Y2 and Y4, they love school and are thriving. The school is a national support school (ie considered so good that it mentors less successful schools). It is ambitious, nurturing, friendly and vibrant. There is an open morning on Tuesday 5th, come and see for yourself. There are usually parents of current students on hand to chat after the tour. What year group are you hoping to join?
