primary school Open days- mostly good!

Oh poor Jack! Always friendly and helpful to us, unpatronising to the children with whom he is super popular and I've always found him to be very laid back. He's not inexperienced, in the years he's been at the school I've never found him abrupt or immature. -

I found Merrifields unbelievably rude. I highly reccomend the cobblers in rye lane arcade. Great customer service, excellent workmanship and very very reasonably priced -

I have seen no evidence of a primary place crisis in 2016, quite the opposite. James have you noticed that not a single person has posted in support of your contention that there should be yet another primary school. If you think there is a crisis how does this square with your opposition to the extension of Ivydale? On the other hand many of the people you seek to represent plainly feel strongly that another primary runs the risk of compromising a secondary school that is needed. You say that you are loyal to the campaign for a secondary school and I don't doubt that but that really isn't coming across as your priority right now. I have yet to hear any cogent argument as to how a petition to David Laws, who has suggested in correspondence that a Primary and secondary could co exist on the hospital site, making it plain that local feeling is against that is inappropriate or runs the risk that he would say ya boo sucks well you won't get a school at all. -

I would like to say a huge thank you to Tessa Jowell for her sensible and proactive stance. What a compelling letter. -

There is a significant and pressing need for a secondary school in East Dulwich (council projections bear this out) the hospital site is the only available land. There is no need for a further primary but yet another Harris has received approval. The concern is that an unwanted and uneccesary primary school once approved needs a home and the petition doesn't want that to be on the hospital site. James your post makes no sense to me, to me it seeks to scaremonger (the petition runs the risk of losing a secondary) without any or any sensible suggestion as to how you reach that conclusion. I recommend that you read the very many comments on the petition from the people you represent. -

I've signed. A primary school on that site isn't needed and would be a waste of public money at the expense (in terms of money and space) of resources that are desperately needed. -

Right I've sent my email to Tessa, only took a few minutes and made me feel better. If you are worried about secondary provision, whatever bid you support don't miss this opportunity to make your voice heard or you can hardly complain about it when it's too late and we have no school or one that has been squeezed in to an inadequate space. -

So I have signed and passed on to my friends too. Will definitely write to MPs too, thanks for details -
My boy is 9 and a voracious reader - book a day. We get a lot from charity shop (big one on LL always has several books that suit us), regular visits to our brilliant libraries deals on kindle and some book swapping with friends. We do amazon and sainsburys and the book house but Chener has such a great range that we sometimes push the boat out. Also try the boot fairs regularly held by St John's Heber or DKH schools - lots of parent stalls with books

Finding a good primary with spaces in Y1 and Y4

Have you tried Goose Green, Dog Kennel Hill or St Johns and St Clements? All ofsted good schools with loyal parent followings? I know Goose Green has an open day soon (tomorrow or day after I believe) Good luck, it sounds very stressful! On a seperate note it just shows you how important it is that local parents lobby hard for a new secondary school - all these children are going to have to find one sooner or later. -
The contortionist is amazing and even the budgies have raised their game. We love Zippos

According to BBC news the Civil Judge totally rejected the claim that spending had been authorised. I would like to know more about this but would express some caution as to publishing "gos" on a public forum that relates to an ongoing criminal investigation. Some may call that gagging/cover up but I call it good sense and due process. On a different note - I'm not keen on "Hatcham" prefer Haberdashers East Dulwich. -

Leaflets advertising the public meeting on 10/7 being put into letter boxes as we speak! The leaflet from Haberdashers states that it welcomes parents views on what the admission policy should be so I guess those who would like to express an opinion should come to the meeting or contact Habs on the details they provide. -

Clux, the "Nunhead" school proposed on the site is a primary school - I agree it's absurd to place a Nunhead primary school there when it is not needed and would take away space for an urgently needed secondary. If we get a secondary school on the site it will (it seems) either be Charter who propose as the crow flies admission (so no you probably wont get in from Nunhead) or Haberdashers that adopt a banding system which mean the admissions cover a wider geographical area. I believe Habs are to hold a public meeting in the next couple of weeks so doubtless they will be able to expand on that. -

It's also quite a good chance to get to know some of the other parents especially if as a working mum you are not going to have much chance to be at the school gates. I took time off when No1 started and manically introduced myself to everyone which was a good foundation for future play dates/emergency pick ups/queries as to what was going on in the class etc If you can't do that there are at least 3 GG mums that I know of who are childminders and can probably help. PM if you would like their forum names!0 -
Harris Free School Primary on Hospital Site
mrs.lotte replied to Lou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Completely agree with Renata's analysis and anticipate that she has been totally taken by surprise by Gove's letter. Can I ask what steps the LA are taking to clarify the position? If Gove's letter reflects the true position then we need a plan, however keen to know what the true state of affairs is first -
Harris Free School Primary on Hospital Site
mrs.lotte replied to Lou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Jeez Louise do Harris want to take over the world. This would be a disaster as there would be no room anywhere nearby for a secondary. Where on earth are all these children going to go when they leave primary?!
