  1. Phew! Thats great, I am now at the stage now where I'm nearly potty training and want to use reusable for this last length of time (In fact I have wanted to use them since birth but never had enough cash on hip to invest :-( ). You may well be the barer of my voucher... If I ever know which choice to make. Thank you, so I guess I will ring them tomorrow.
  2. I think radio station go on the assumption a child wouldnt understand the meaning of the lyrics. Things like this a very common on all radio stations these days. But if my child started singing that... Oh my, I dont know what i'd do. Ban her from the radio!!! Have her acquire a taste for radio 4 maybe?
  3. ...If I can be sent out another one. I knew it was the 'important' box but fear it may have been thrown away. I cant find it anywhere. I applied a good while ago, and the expiry date was around mid June. I wanted to use before it ran out, I go to use it tonight... GONE! It must show on their system that I never used the voucher, they are named so surely they would know. I know Molly may well know... If she around tonight or anybody else?
  4. Yes maybe Toys R Us, also try larger supermarkets. Tesco do them online. In fact a lot of place do them online. You can get them in so many different themes. Ive seen some gorgeous mermaid ones. I cant wait till my LO is big enough! BTW - you spelt it correct ;-) Also the pullinis (the ribbon ones) are much better idea with younger child as not to encourage violence. The unicorn one on tesco is lovely. :-) http://www.tescoparty.com/ShowProducts.aspx?pageid=1270
  5. My mother swears by her 100% silk pillows. My sister sells them so everyone gets them for christmas & birthdays. My mother is now always banging on about how her skin is amazing (it was already - but this must be super amazing) and her hair is immaculate in the morning. I am next on the list for these. :-) I WANT IT NOW! "This exquisite mulberry silk pillowcase is the ultimate luxury. A superb anti wrinkle skin care product, a silk pillowcase will help to delay the signs of aging. Unlike traditional cotton pillowcases which draw moisture from your face and hair as you sleep, silk will allow your skin to retain its natural moisture. Silk is naturally hypo-allergenic and therefore perfect for allergy sufferers, and is also beneficial to those who suffer aches and pains, itchy skin such as rosacea and eczema and may aid blood circulation and digestion when sleeping. Made from 100% 19 momme Finest and Seamless Mulberry silk it has a 400 thread count creating a wonderfully soft and perfectly smooth pillowcase which drapes beautifully. Before purchasing a silk pillowcase it is vital to check the momme weight of the silk linen. ‘Momme’ is the unit used to grade the quality of silk. Those graded between 12 – 19 are considered to be of a high quality and silk in the range of 16 – 19 extremely high quality. This pillowcase is graded as 19 momme which is the smoothest, creamiest and shiniest type of silk."
  6. I got a letter to say my daughter is due another ?250 within the next few months - I wonder whether she will still get it?! Seems a shame for kids to miss out.
  7. To do your orignial plan with 15 - 40 under 5's. Peckham pulse have a policy - one adult to every one child under 5 years of age, if over 5 years old 1:2 I say also if its a nice day, a picnic and games in Rye or Dulwich park. You could do pinata (maybe?) etc. and set up a little buffet. I think that would be enjoyable.
  8. sillyowman - I read this also. Apparently she just covered the baby in a blanket and told them to mind their own business... It is totally sickening, I hate reading stories like this. Why let your baby come to harm? No matter what age you are you should have common sense when it comes to sun and children, it can be so dangerous!! I say - lie her on the beach all day in blistering sun shackled down till she gets toasted! BTW, the baby has now been released from hospital, the doctors have said there could be a risk of blistering though, which could mean the baby is not quite safe yet, as it could lose a lot of bodily fluid. But I hope he gets better soon, and the mother screws her head on properly. This incident is being investigated by police!
  9. will dex - I was about to say the exact same thing. I dont know how you would get around that though, besides buying a new car that isn't a golf. Pfft
  10. It was, they have just been moving everything around over the last couple of months. The other day all the animals were on the side being clean - ERGH!
  11. I have been trying for the last 5 days or so to get my 16 month old daughter to wear a hat (oh blimey) finally today she just seems to be wearing it. I still slather her head in sun cream though even if she has a hat on incase she pulls it off again. I would ignore the monitor in the room, leave windows open all day to air it out for night. Right now my daughter is just wearing a tshirt and nappy to bed in a .5 tog grobag and she is perfectly fine. All you can do with the drinking thing is to keep offering (one tip make it nice and cool, maybe stick it in the freezer for 5 minutes - they love it). I keep offering my daughter and she is drinking 3-4 cups a day at the minute. She was 6 months old last summer and loved to take water from a sippy cup!!!
  12. They are always up Dulwich Common too & Harvester
  13. newmother - Well said! Its would be brilliant if everyone at least tried breastfeeding, even the first few days, the colostrum can be very beneficial. But the ways of the world, a lot of people cant even bare to try it. Reason's like sexually abuse really effect breastfeeding rates. its a sad world out there, but not one to judge upon. I breastfeed (still doing so at 16 months), i'm also a trained peer counsellor, but I know not to let anything cloud my judgment. Bottle feeding doesn't make someone a bad mother (not saying anyone has said this), there are many reason's why some women cant bring themselves to do it. But you must respect each and every mothers personal choice. I'm in the community to help people who want to breastfeed but are finding it hard for a number of reasons, not to force breastfeeding on people who decide to bottle feed. I hope I haven't offended anyone here... I'm a caring person after all :-)
  14. You may be surprised, I never thought my daughter would let me leave the house for a day (she is literally addicted to breast), but when I wasn't around (shopping, rare night out etc) she knew she couldn't have it and happily just got on with her day. Needless to say now 16 months old when i'm here she goes crazy, if I am busy she just decides to jump on me and do it herself. Kids ay Hope it goes well for you, you may well find it a lot easier than expected, try not to let it worry you. If you want to try and cut down do it gradually, replacing the feeding times you need to with fun activities, maybe a walk in the park or such. Distractions can be very helpful. Sometimes it's better to not be around at such feeding times, then your baby wont be teased at the fact your there but not giving, what they want.
  15. linzkg, your post brought a tear to my eye, what a miracle, good that you had such great midwives on hand for your birth. 10.7 well done you, i was 10.10 when I was born. When I gave birth to my daughter she was 7.01 and I couldn't imagine the pain of delivery any bigger naturally, although a lot of people say its no different. Breech births are such tricky subjects, I think the big factor is safety of both mother and baby, if it was safe I would go through with it, but its a massive decision. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I went through with it and it ended in tragedy, I would blame myself everyday. I hope I never have to make the decision! My mother in law birthed a breech baby naturally, the thought gives my shivers but labouring any way still doesn't scare me, only CS...
  16. The statistic for breech births are worse. Breech birth is infact deemed natural and babies can be delivered in such positions. Cord prolapse in full term head down babies stands at around 0.4 - 0.5%, this statistic remains the same for frank (hips up) breech births and then rises to nearly 5% for complete breech and a rather astonishing 15% for babies born in the feet first breech position. I believe for reason's to do with hospital safety and the safety of patients in a lot of case's it is much safer and easier to do c-sections as opposed to taking the risk attached to breech births. Even aware of the information I would still try my hardest to deliver naturally, if I knew my baby was safe.
  17. In the eyes of health organisations, its a flip side breastfeeding should be promoted, formula shouldn't. Alcohol can be advertised for public consumption (with warnings), drugs cant (point blank). Everyone's view lay divided on such topics... Edited to include: As of late, more and more health professionals are coming forward to ask governments for a ban on loyalty points awarded on alcohol purchases.
  18. I would deliver breech if it was safe to do so and my baby or myself at the time weren't at risk (I would want professionals that had experience in breech though, even if they just sit in and observe). I can imagine it to be very painful and I would hate to have any interference in a natural labour, but needs must. Delivering first time round naturally was hard enough, but i'm rather brave when it comes to labour I suppose.
  19. This is indeed correct. I worked for boots for a few years and they are no way against bottle feeding. They sell many bottle feeding products as well as breastfeeding products. The code on advertising etc for formula is very strict. Any store seen to be breeching WHO code can incur very heavy penalties. Fuschia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The World Health Organisation Code on > Breastfeeding states that formula is not allowed > to be advertised directly to the public, samples > can't be offered and no price promotions including > discounts / points are permitted.
  20. Its absolutely fine to breastfeed whilst pregnant, there is no sudden need to wean. You may find your baby self weans in the first trimester due to a change in the taste of your milk, or maybe around the four month mark when some women notice a reduction in their milk supply. Your child may well carry on for longer than you'd expect, even through the colostrum and beyond. If you are both happy to feed, continue to do so, it will not cause any harm. You may find your baby is more keen to breastfeed during your pregnancy also.
  21. I am extremely interested in any kind of post-natal support. I am due to graduate from le leche leagues breastfeeding peer councillor training in June (I actually finish this course tomorrow). I then intend to support many women across the community with post natal support & breastfeeding support where needed. My one worry is that not many people will appreciate my knowledge and the level of support I can provide as I am rather young myself. Oh what i'd give to help people with post natal issues! There is alot of demand for such services in Southwark.
  22. Its like being in a bubble for the first few months, wanting to do everything to protect your baby. Feeling suffocated by all the different information you get given, and just feeling totally confused. Childbirth for me was one big natural high, I remember not sleeping and just running on pure adrenaline for the first 4 days. Swinging from high to low, complete and utter shock at the happiness that spreads through your life, but the lows and worries for your child. It was an amazing experience, that I would do over and over again if I had the chance. Its amazing how becoming a mother can put your world upside down, but you do see the world can be a very happy place while in a headstand :-)
  23. Diprobase is to me THE cream to use. After suffering with eczema all my life until I hit puberty this was the option my parents took. With a very strong family history of allergies and skin conditions, I have recommended this to many people who have come back with positive results. My daughter has just started to develop eczema at 15 months, it has started to flare up every now and again, so I use diprobase and I do highly recommend it! Im starting to experiment by cutting out wheat and diary from her diet, to see if this makes a difference to her flare up's. Also be careful of using scented bath products and washing powders. After giving birth to my brother my mother found herself having to take serious measure's to control his terrible eczema, his whole face and body head to toe was scaly, dry and red, and extremely painful, she found gluten & dairy products caused him a lot of flare up's so cut them out totally for my brother and herself as she was breasfeeding and saw significant results, come the age of 4 my brother had no eczema in sight. Food groups such as these are definitely common irritants. I hope you find a solution soon, maybe before seeing a dermatologist you should experiment with cutting out gluten products and diary to see if this makes any difference over a week or two. Good luck.
  24. Thank you everybody, will try phoning round. I know they say they dont sell online, even finding a second hand seat unit is difficult. This is the last time I will 'build' my own pram.
