Snap, my daughter is exactly the same age, and wakes up at the dreaded 4am hour. It takes sometimes an hour to get her back to sleep, then she is up again at around 7.30am. I have the problem where if I put her to bed over tired she sleeps really badly, I also do dinner at around 6.30ish and she is sleeping a lot better now. Eating later and not being over tired for bed solved it for me.

Nursing in public; weirdest place?
GinaG3 replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I admire anyone who feeds one child let alone twins. Well done you. I can imagine it being double double hard work.. Don't get me started on triplets, I saw this the other day and WOW, triple triple hard work. -
Nursing in public; weirdest place?
GinaG3 replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Some great ones here now. Peckhamgatecrasher, I would of been mortified with the train thing. I often feed on trains but I cant say anything more :) Nice to see people aren't shy about feeding in public though. I cannot handle the bus now, too many horrible looks and sniggering. Now LO is 17 months its a lot easier to have her wait till we are off the bus. Babies, and toddlers more so even just love to kick the passenger next to you while feeding. -
Nursing in public; weirdest place?
GinaG3 replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I too have breastfed walking around public places. I had to breastfeeding walking to catch the bus up Rye lane, did get a good few funny looks, but hey. I feel for you Ruth, breastfeeding on the 12, when its really busy, oh my (no thank you). I had to do it standing up once as no one was prepared to offer a seat. It was a really hot and sweaty day. Not nice. -
Hi there is a whole page of advice on allergies, including hayfever on the NHS website that might be worth a look. CLICK HERE!

GinaG3 posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all, The National Breastfeeding Awareness Week is a key event for promoting breastfeeding by raising awareness of the health benefits, to increase social acceptance and promote support for it. We have lots of things going on in Southwark and would love to see you and your baby. MONDAY 21/06 - CELEBRATING NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING WEEK @ SUNSHINE HOUSE, 27 PECKHAM ROAD. SE5 8UH. This event will be held from 10am to 3pm on Monday. We have a summer fashion show of maternity and breastfeeding clothing, and also a show of sling designs and variants taking place (we will have on hand 2/3 trustee sling 'goddesses' who can hopefully answer your questions and give advice). Graduation awards on the day for the newest breastfeeding peer counsellors to join the team in Southwark. Health promotion, and a taster of the breastfeeding art workshop. Including a raffle for some lovely prizes. Plenty of refreshments. Plus you can meet other pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in our area! Look forward to seeing you there. I second Huggies Pure wipes.. They are thicker but no larger I'm afraid. -
Advice needed on waking in the night
GinaG3 replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not to worry, my daughter is 17 months and has just starting with the crying and screaming night waking at around 4-6am (AGAIN!). Its probably a mixture of attention, teething & jabs to be honest. It was horrendous for me over the last 2 weeks, this was due to cutting teeth and I didn't even notice they had come (back teeth), but we are on 11 now hooray! I know right now, my daughter is in a clingy phase, could this be a possibly with your little one, especially if not seeing you as much throughout the day? When you are home after work, are you having a nice relax time with her before she goes to bed, just the usual cuddles and a story or whatever she likes? I find if my daughter goes to bed after being all hyper having played with toys this distracts her nights sleep, so now she brings us stories and we read them for her (usually about 8 at a time) but she loves it and it gets her in the right mood for sleeping. Hope it gets better for you, and believe me it will :) -
Have only just seen the picture. That is definitely a terrapin.. RSPCA are your best bet, I believe a good few of this variety are unwanted and unfortunately get flushed down toilets and end up in drain systems and streams etc. Sad what some people will do, these are supposed to be very snappy and quite vicious. How are you finding him? He does need to be in water, but I'm guessing you know this :) Good luck with him.

Oh wow, did you have any luck with the poster? I've had tortoise's all my life, they are beautiful creatures. My mothers friend found her giant tortoise on the side of the motorway, they do end up in funny places sometimes. If you end up needing to find a good home for the little guy PM me to let me know, my mother is currently looking for another tortoise, she currently has two that she has had for 13 years and 2 years.

Food allergies linked to asthma in babies
GinaG3 replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't believe she is qualified either. After her first child died of a rare condition I believe she spent a matter of years researching child nutrition, but never became qualified. Was she awarded an MBE though for her work? Anyway.. I too have been through all the above with my Daughter. A number of serious allergies run in our family, so have had to be very careful. I gave only fresh fruit and veg when I first started weaning and did so for the first 7 months ( my choice totally ). You can introduce things such as wheat at around 9 months ( wheat is a big one in my family but my daughter seemed to be fine with it at this age ) I waited until gone 1 year to introduce diary. You can introduce well cooked eggs from a year also, needless to say she didn't like them. I definitely will not give her anything containing egg in its raw form until she is probably over 2. My daughter comes up in a rash if she has too much diary, but this isn't very often. I also found that she would come up in a rash with pasta, not bread though (figured this was the starch in the pasta causing this). Apricots produced a heavenly rash almost as soon as being put to her lips, so I dropped out any stoned fruit for a while. If you introduce something new every week, they say 2-3 days but personally I don't find this really long enough if there are many common allergies in your family. Never introduce two things at once as if they is a reaction you wont know what has caused it. Obviously this is just my advice from my experience. Just takes a while introducing one a week, but I will tell you I feel better for it now as I am very confident in what she can and cant eat. -
You'll have to tell him, I have a breastfeeding daughter who wakes between 10-11am so.. 'what a load of pants' (Ha) Better early mornings anyway, then like me you don't have a 16 month old running around till 12am while you have your eyes prised open with matchsticks. Ho hum.. Hubcaps are all the rage lately. At the moment its quite common for them to be stolen as they have a high resale value. 4 Audi, Merc & BMW hub caps alone can make up to ?40 on eBay. This is a lot of money to the scally wags who pinch them.

Front sleeping, is it safe, AND snuffling question!
GinaG3 replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't worry about the front sleeping, my daughter did this from 2 months.. Even now I find her curled up in different parts of her bed every 5 minutes. Fidgety sleeper. Best advice for the snuffling has already been given by linzkg.. Talk to HV if it worries you, but I'm sure its just a phase. -
I had a leaking appliance identified externally by the gas board. He probed our walls and identified leaking gas from our boiler. It can happen, all the same though, be very weary of who you let in. Someone should always show I.D or else don't let them in. Thats my rule. slightly worrying self-soothing techniques

Agree with ClareC totally. By 6 months things like this are much safer as your baby is now aware of how to flap their arms about and get something our of their way if needs be.. -
2 questions - b/f weaning and NAPS!
GinaG3 replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hey snowboarder, He still should be getting rather a lot of calcium - Products containing calcium at this age have such a good nutritional value. Maybe keep trying a no pressure approach to offering whole milk - might it be the cup, have you tried offering different cups? Does he like cheese, yogurt? Don't forget calcium comes in many forms, even if your child had yogurt based fruit smoothies, cheese etc. this will definitely start to add up towards the amount of dairy needed in his diet. Good luck with it, I find my daughter still breastfeeding at 17 months but very fussy with whole milk (she will not drink it, unless she sees us drinking it then she wants some too, typical if you ask me) BTW - With the sleeping and napping, i'm sure it will all be fine. If he is that tired he should sleep anywhere, regardless. The transition period from 2 - 1 naps can be a hard time. when my daughter was doing 2 naps a day, possibly 10-11 and 2-3 I didn't even notice the transition to only one, I just figured I'd let her get on with it. Now she will have one nap between 2-4 (I find this a bit late as then she wont go to bed till maybe 11-12pm, but we have a horrible pattern emerging wake up - 4 hours till nap - 2 hour nap - then 7 hours till bedtime). I do try to get her to have her one nap at maybe 1-2, then when she wakes up hungry, I can do her lunch. Try not too worry too much, it can be hard getting them to fall into a new pattern with naps etc. If you can wake him without making hi =m moody (some can) maybe try that, or keep him distracted as much as possible until you think its nap time then relax with him and get him off to sleep. You maybe find midday to be the perfect time then maybe he will be wanting to head for bed around 7-8. Sounds like a dream to me - ho hum! Good luck, and have a nice holiday.. -
Its fine to dye your hair while breastfeeding! I tend to go for the low ammonia ones as I find the smell of the chemicals so sickening. Is your baby over 3 months? They say you shouldn't colour your hair within 3 months of giving birth as the colour does not take properly, I can vouch for this my hair went pink - should of been a shade of dark brown! No, no. no. I stopped dying my hair after that, and the fact its a long a vicious circle...

... Well, that is truly is weird. Technology found your long lost friend though.

Any email address you ever have communications with (via your email client) is stored and if someone on facebook has such email address as a log in they assume you know the person and suggest them to you. Same way you can put your email address into facebook and it will then find all contacts via your email client... Assuming of course that you do 'actually' know them. It can also suggest people local to you, via your facebook network. Technology is marvelous!

Old Electrical Shop - Peckham Rye
GinaG3 replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would love to buy that place... It has such character. I agree whoever gets their mitts on it should leave the front as is, it would be lovely as residential premises with the front intact. *Dreams* -
My and my partner went there a few weeks ago. It was really nice. The staff are polite. I am a massive halloumi fan, and there's was spot on. The mixed grills could feed two in my experience. Worth the money I believe... I'd advise anyone to at least try it. I know alot of people who use Hisar regularly and never have a bad word to say.

Is it a bad time to move a toddler into a junior bed now?
GinaG3 replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You could always buy a cot bed, see how your toddler does without the rails on. If she doesn't seem to get on with it you can put them on, or even just one. It does make a difference to some children, some just like the security of one side up or even both. The cot bed I have can be used up until 8 years. It has been passed down my family for more than 20 years and is still in excellent condition, it may be worth investing then you can still use for other children and you would still have the option for cot or junior bed in one. As with the baby moving into the toddlers room, I guess you will just have to wait and see. Your toddler will begin to feel comfortable with the new addition, it may take longer than 3 months or it may take less. Every child will react differently to new siblings. I think its all about experimenting and finding whats right for your child/children, good luck with it all.
